Title: PS2: Component video cable recommendations?
Post by: phoenix1967 on January 20, 2006, 12:48:46 PM
Can anyone recommend a component video cable for the PS2?

With my recent purchase of the console, I noticed that the resolution of the standard composite cable is rather fuzzy.

If possible, I'd rather not give Monster the business, but any advice on this is appreciated.

Well so much for me saying Monster. I didnt even know people made component cables for the PS2 till 6 months ago.

Why do you dislike Monster?

From all that I've heard, they are very overpriced (I think around $40) and that the difference in quality does not justify it.

I've seen that Sony has their own component video cable for about $25 and was thinking about getting that one over Monster.

Tyn, do you feel that the price of a Monster component cable is worth it? Does it make the video quality that much better?

With Monster your paying for a name.
The Sony ones will preform just as well.
The Monster cables are generally made hefty and can warrant abuse.

And they boast goldplated connectors.

But i think everyone uses gold plating now.
Sends the signal better.

Just get the actual Sony Component cable. My major in school is Electronic Media (AKA advance cable TV repair). I know my TV cables. I can tell you for a fact that there is no difference whatsoever between Monster cables or Sony cables or any other kind of cable. Monster would have you believe that their cables are better but it's total bullshit. Monster makes me sick. I've hated those guys for years. They make millions just by lying to people. In fact, there is actually no difference between composite cable and component cable. They're exactly  the same. The only difference is the number of cables and the places you plug them in. If you want, you can hook up a DVD player via component video with composite cables. You just plug the composite cables into the component jacks on the TV and DVD player. You need to use all 3 (red, white, and yellow) just for the video. You'll need 2 more cables for the audio. I do it all the time. It saves me a bundle. Unfortunately, you need actual PS2 cables for the PS2. So just buy the cheapest PS2 component cables you can find. You'll be fine.

any old fuckin cable will work. Hell, you could build one out of lamp cords or old house wiring and it would be fine!

As for system cables tho, I use the ones at electricquarter.com . fast, cheap and easy. much like my mom.
