Title: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Peart on January 16, 2006, 09:33:33 AM Take a look at "anitoon"'s collection... http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?action=profile&name=anitoon&folder=Collection
Since I collect Atari 2600 carts (among other consoles) I know how *impossible* some titles are to acquire, so you could imagine how surprised I was to find that anitoon claimed to own many "Rarity 10" titles. Upon further investigation, it appears he simply checked off *every* Atari 2600 title to add to his collection, and now it appears he's doing the same with other consoles. If you look at the All Collections list, you'll see that (surprise), anitoon is now "#1" on the list with 3,531 claimed titles that he owns... http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?finduser=true&action=viewall I can only hope that anitoon must be a teenager, in which case he may not yet learned the true meaning of "Honor & Integrity". I haven't noticed such blatant abuse of the "Honor System" in anyone else collections, but I wonder if this has happened before? What are your thoughts on the matter? Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Izret101 on January 16, 2006, 09:41:07 AM I would guess it is ac again.
Last time something like this happaned it was someone from West Springfield with the name ac. He just added an assload of games to his collection sent Den stupid PMs and stole pictures from Laurels pics and the web and put them in his collection. It also says that this person has 22 posts none of which exist. Going to have to wait for Eddie or Mike to get more info about it. Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on January 16, 2006, 10:28:29 AM I say we kill him. I mean whack, sorry I haven't been watching the Godfather enough.
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Arrrhalomynn on January 16, 2006, 10:35:31 AM His 22 posts don't show, because I moved them all to the recycle bin. Here's an example to show you why:
Quote All Jedi ('Sept for anikin): B-B-Bubba-Bobba-hob-hobba-hobba-wah-wah. {As Strong Bad speaks, the background grows red} STRONG BAD: Wait a minute...This isn't heaven!!! {Strong Bad flies to the left side of the screen and starts pounding on it} STRONG BAD: WAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I banned his IP, but I guess that doesn't work on the collection pages. Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on January 16, 2006, 10:45:46 AM Well that sucks, he pushes my huge collection of 79 games down a notch. Can't you delete his ass off the collection?
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Arrrhalomynn on January 16, 2006, 11:14:56 AM I can remove him from the board, but I can't, or don't know how, to remove him from the collections.
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: den68 on January 16, 2006, 11:32:01 AM Mike can remove him. he did when that ac character did the same thing.
I don't mind getting knocked off the top spot but only if it's legit. Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: shaggy on January 16, 2006, 12:16:14 PM Ditto. This guys seems like a total ass and ruins the gaming community to us true collectors
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Izret101 on January 16, 2006, 12:33:42 PM Well if it is ac like i thought it might be then its a kid who is either 13 or 14.
I pity him for wasting that much time just trying to get a few people riled up. Which has apparently succeded Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 16, 2006, 01:03:45 PM Well I wouldn't have deleted the guy's account without giving a warning, but it looks like Mark already did this. Still, the guy probably deserved it since he was obviously spamming. I would have liked to compare the IP addresses he and AC had. I did notice that a LOT of his games had the comment "AC" in them. So, it likely was the same person. As of right now, their collection files have not been deleted, but the collection folder has been completely cleared. Thus, he now has 0 games in his collection because that list was indeed totally bogus.
Thanks Peart for this post and the PM you sent me regarding this guy. Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Yes, this site is very enjoyable and it has lots of nice people. You're wrong about one thing, though, Doug. I'll knock him off the top! :) Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: atari_wizard on January 17, 2006, 12:31:16 PM thanks for catching this guy and i'm sure he or someone like him will do the same thing in the future. is there a way this guy could change his ip without switching computers or changing his or her service? i must have missed him around the first time.
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: St0rmTK421 on January 17, 2006, 01:04:13 PM And now you see why there is not an "Add all" button for collections. Just think... the guy had to click over 3000 checkboxes just to have Mike clear it all out in one click of the mouse. Oh well he had it coming.

Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 18, 2006, 02:23:13 PM Quote I wish I had that kind of time to waste. :-/ This site exists because Eddie and I (and a lot of the rest of you) had that kind of time to waste. At least something good came out of it. Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: Izret101 on January 18, 2006, 02:26:33 PM Actually i wouldn't consider this time wasted.
That guy wasted time by sitting there and clicking thosands of check boxes for no reason what so ever. On the other hand we work constructively on the site and database. Polar opposites IMO. I was just making the point that without disgusting amounts of free time, this site wouldn't have ever been made.
Title: Re: Why lie about your collection?? Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on January 19, 2006, 08:36:47 AM Amen.
