Title: Recalled Xbox Titles
Post by: Pop Culture Portal on January 02, 2006, 06:05:26 PM
The recent thread about everyone's collection goals got me to thinking about another gaming goal I'd like to accomplish this year...to get as close to having a complete Xbox collection as possible.

Big dream, I know.  But I was thinking about where to start.  To me, part of the fun of getting a complete collection is looking for those so-called "rare" titles, like those that have been recalled for numerous reasons.  So, that's where I thought I'd start.

I've listed all the recalled/pulled titles I could think of or search for on the internet.  Can anyone think of any others?  I'm not looking for the "rares" or "hard-to-finds," but those that were pulled from retail shelves.

-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (bugs in the game)
-Kakuto Chojin (offensive religious references)
-Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (the ol' Hot Coffee)
-Guy Game (underage boobies)

Both Kakuto & GTA were re-released with the "offensive" stuff removed, but I'm not sure about the others.  Does anyone know of any other recalled titles?  I'm ready to search all the local pawn shops, fleas, and game stores to find them.

Was the Guy Game recalled?

Frogger and F1 are hard to find IMO.

Yup...see here:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/632/632112p1.html

Although I think what they meant was that the production was recalled, not what was on the shelves.  So, stores sold through what they had and no other copies of the games were to be made...I think.

And from Atari Age forums:

"What was inappropriate was the developer using footage of a 17-year-old who later sued. Since they weren't smart enough to make sure all the girls were of age, they've gotten their asses handed to them."

I still see it everywhere, though, for Xbox & PS2.

Guy Game is still readily availale

I know a place with Kakuto Chojin they had new copies still about a year ago.
I don't know how to check if it is the original or rerelease. I bought a used copy of it awhile ago so if you know how to check that would be great to know :)

GTA is still in alot of places too. Or it was last time i was looking... Good luck getting both versions. I think AO is going to be much harder to come by.

EDIT
i got sidetracked and you posted before me lol

Every hastings I go to has both versions of GTA.  The original version runs about $40 used.  At the bottom of the re-released version of GTA is something like "Volume Two" or  "Version Two."  Seems like the games I listed may not be that hard to find after all!

As far as I know about The Guy Game, The game was pulled briefly from store shelves after the lawsuit was filed.  The producers either settled or they won thier case and they put the game back onto shelves and restarted production.

And I think the only way to tell the difference between the two Kakuto Chojin's is to plug them in and play them.  If it sounds like a muslim prayer in the background of one of the stages, then you have a recalled copy.

I have  Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, picked it up at GameStop used before I left Pittsburgh back in Sept. I didn't know it was recalled. I think I paid like $17 for it. I've been playing it and haven't experienced any bugs....

Damn it so now i have to beat it again and pay attention to the music?
Anyone know a program to rip music files from Xbox discs?
That would be oh so much easier.
I am going to look for a prog now...

I can't remember the title but it was a fighting game that John Tobias made.  Lotus or Mantis was in the title I believe.

Yea, that's the game.  I believe I read it was recalled for too much violence?  It did get good ratings, though.

I thought it got bad ratings? Damn now I need to go look. :-/

Well Gamespot has it at a 6.4 and IGN has it at  8.7 so I guess it did get good ratings.

Did the game bomb?

I believe Tao Feng wasn't recalled, but there were quite a few rumors running around the web and at game stores that it was on the verge of being banned in the US, which it wasn't.  That's probably where the confusion is with Tao Feng.  Plus, nearly every game store I've been in lately has had Tao Feng.

Also, what I've been reading on the net and talking to people in the store, a cleaned-up re-release of Kakuto never actually happened.  I'm seeing alot of conflicting info on the status of Kakuto...probably best to visit Microsoft's website and see if there are any official press releases still out there from a few years ago when the game got yanked.

And to add more fuel to the "recalled/banned" rumor mill, what is this I'm hearing about Manhunt and Blitz: the League also being "banned?"  I think Manhunt was pulled from UK shelves but not US shelves, but I'm not sure.  I also think our good buddy Jack T. has his hands in it, too.

I think Blitz's controversial use of drugs and "easy" cheerleaders may be making people cry "banned" when it's actually not.

On a side note, I picked up Kakuto today at a pawn shop for $20...I'll see what all the fuss is about and if there truly are two versions. |D

I know Manhunt for PS2 is still everywhere so i am going to guess Xbox version never got pulled.

As for Kakuto Chojin i was trying to find out info on that awhile ago.
MS did their best to eliminate all info of it from their site.

Well, I've played through the game and hear no chanting, speaking or whatever in the background music until I fought the end boss.  There was also some sort of chanting during the end credits, but the music is so quiet and the sound effects so loud that it's hard to hear if there's actually any chanting going on.  Guess the mystery continues....btw, I also picked up Barbie Horse Adventures for the Xbox and found it much more stimulating than Kakuto.  :-[

Personally, I like picking Barbie's outfits before she heads out on the trail to rescue the wild horses.  And who could resist petting a 3D baby horse...and it gave me kisses, too!

My real name is Ken, btw. ;)
