Title: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 29, 2005, 09:36:10 AM Finally, it's official.
Article: http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=5838 Quote Nokia, creator of the N-Gage system, has recently announced that they will be avoiding mobile gaming for the next few years and as such will not be building any more new N-Gage models. The N-Gage, which was released in 2003, was a failure from a market perspective, garnering disappointing sales numbers - according to Antti Vasara, Nokia's vice president for corporate strategy, "N-Gage is still being sold but it was not a success in the sense of developing a new category." Therefore, the company has decided that mobile gaming will not be a focus until at least 2007, when "screen sizes and quality will be much more conducive to mobile gaming systems by 2007." Vasara goes on to say, "We learnt that people want to play games on all devices. As such we are integrating the gaming software into Series 60 phones." Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Tynstar on November 29, 2005, 09:39:01 AM Was it ever really alive?
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 29, 2005, 09:47:55 AM In the same way that a fish out of water is alive, maybe.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Tynstar on November 29, 2005, 09:50:37 AM Quote In the same way that a fish out of water is alive, maybe. That's a good way of putting it. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Izret101 on November 29, 2005, 10:43:02 AM I am going to have to check it out later to see if they are going to release the last 3-5 games they had that where supposed to come out in early 2k6
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: TraderJake on November 29, 2005, 01:32:51 PM And there was much rejoicing.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 29, 2005, 02:38:24 PM Too bad, it's a pretty cool system. The only problem is the small screen.
Nokia had plenty of developers; Sega, EA, etc. Lots of big names. But the promotion sucked and well, the thing was confusing. What is it, a phone or a game boy? Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: tholly on November 29, 2005, 04:25:05 PM Finally.....maybe I'll be able to get a new one for $10 soon
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Pop Culture Portal on November 29, 2005, 04:27:57 PM Most places around here stopped carrying it almost a year ago. Who still sells it?
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Antimind on November 30, 2005, 02:09:12 AM Rifts isn't out yet and I hope it is released.
I talked to a guy at Rogers yesterday and he said they are still selling N-Gages but not nearly as many as they did a few months ago. They're going for $125 CAD. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 30, 2005, 02:53:36 AM Screw rifts, I demand civilization! How much does Rogers charge for the games?

Now hopefuly I will be able to buy one for really cheap (under $50) and get dirt cheap games. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: shadaik on December 04, 2005, 06:39:54 AM Great, and I just got one for €80 at ebay.
Ah, well; now I'll get the games cheap at least. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Arrrhalomynn on December 04, 2005, 08:51:09 AM I read it was pretty succesful in Germany, at least when compared to pretty much everywhere else. Is there any truth in this?
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: shadaik on December 04, 2005, 10:26:33 AM Duno, perhaps.
I heard, it was pretty successfull in China and India and Nokia will keep up production for those aeas even after the official death of the system. However, considering that N-Gage has a good support by both Nokia and 3rd party here, I'd assume you're right. But after all, 2 mio. sold systems is not a bad result for a mobile phone (indeed it's quite good), but it's miserable for a handheld gaming device. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: s1lence on December 05, 2005, 07:30:41 AM I haven't seen one in stores for ages. I was going to get one, maybe I still will if I can find one cheap.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Sauza12 on December 06, 2005, 06:28:52 AM One Gamestop near me still has a ton of N-Gage games up for sale at half off. If I can find an N-Gage for under $100 anywhere, I would love to go nuts buying them all up.......after the holidays of course.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Izret101 on December 06, 2005, 01:28:40 PM Yea grab the games cheap get a system later for cheap aswell.

Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: PDorr3 on December 06, 2005, 04:29:56 PM Quote Better get the good/new ones before they're gone. They're hard to find. I dont understand all this stuff with unlocking or whatever... I want an n gage to play games, and most likely games only (unless you can choose your own phone service for the thing) so whats all this stuff with unlocking and all? I dont understand it. I have read about some problems with people buying theirs on ebay because of that stuff. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Arrrhalomynn on December 06, 2005, 05:00:03 PM I don't know anything about mobile phones, but I couldn't use mine untill I put a telephone company card in it. Pre-paid in my case.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Izret101 on December 06, 2005, 05:01:19 PM I am going to keep on checking my emails from N-Gage.
I got one earlier today about Asphalt 2: Urban GT "Roaring into stores" Maybe they will finish up their last few games that where TBA. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Sureshot on December 06, 2005, 06:46:31 PM I shed no tear!

Post by: Arrrhalomynn on February 26, 2006, 01:43:58 PM Quote That got released within the last few days. Now to look for a cheap copy. Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Sauza12 on February 27, 2006, 06:56:59 AM Oh yeah, in case anyone still wants to buy one of these, they are marked at $100 at Gamestop, and apparently they come with a $100 mail in rebate. So basically they are free right now.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on February 27, 2006, 08:43:51 AM Hmmm, nope, still too expensive.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Antimind on February 27, 2006, 09:46:31 AM I got a bunch of games the other day at the store for $1.85 CAD. I dunno if they have any left but if there's a game someone wants lemme know an we can work somethin out. I have an extra copy of FIFA 2005 for the moment.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Sauza12 on February 28, 2006, 06:43:57 AM Is the packaging for the Canadian N-Gage games any different than the American ones? If not, I'd be all about $2 N-Gage games.
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Izret101 on February 28, 2006, 11:43:17 AM I had told you when you where getting N-Gage games for that price in the states i was willing to buy them ;)
Title: Re: N-Gage is dead. Post by: Antimind on February 28, 2006, 09:12:33 PM Sauza12 - I didn't notice a difference. Most games released here have French language pack-ins shrinkwrapped to the package. Aright guys. Next time I'm out that way I'll look. Prolly won't be for a few weeks to a month though. Too much goin on and too much money goin out that we don't have atm *sigh*
