So....... Who amung us braved the lines or was lucky enough to have a first shipment reserve filled?


I might try a store this morning, but I have a feeling it will be a waste of time. I will probably have to stick it out and wait for my reserve to come in in a week or 2  :(

Closest I got was looking at the lines last night and laughing at all the idiots freezing to death. For some reason everyone was camped out at Best Buy. There was no one at Circuit City or Target or Gamestop. I know Best Buy had the most, 50, where CC only had 11 and Gamestop probably sold out years ago but still, seemed weird.

I wonder how many lives have been lost sitting outside of stores waiting for things to be released.

That is so hilarious.  I bet when I go to Wal-Mart today I'll see a frozen body sitting in front of the store.  I can't believe them people sitting in front of the store freezing there butts of in front of the store for a new system that will still be available months from now and at a cheaper price.   :pirate:

I drove by a Toys 'r' Us and Circuit City on my way to lunch and saw that both places were sold out, which leads me to think one of two things:

They are really, really desired, or
Microsoft purposefully launched at a small number to create hype and desire.

I am thinking option two. As for me, the only system I am intending on buying day one is the Revolution, and I won't be preordering that until I hear specifics about the system.

Well remember they also gave away how many units through that whole "win a 360 every 10 minutes" promotion.

Also, they are launching in Europe and Japan soon?

Of course it does suck that not everybody who wanted one got one :(

I didn't get an X-Box and I won't get a 360.

I think it's another 2 weeks till it gets released here. I'd get one if I had money and if Oblivion was a launch title. Unfortunately neither is the case.

They could have had a "stronger" launch by having more consoles available but it is going to look better for them to say statistically they sold out every shipment in under a day.

They are creating their own hypeby limiting the amount of product that can be purchased.

Economics thats all it is.

Holy Crap it is only 6:40 EST and 360's are already fetching $5000 on Ebay! I knew there would be profit to be had on this, but damn! It is pretty apparent that once all the mommies buying the latest new system for their spoiled kid find out that they can find one (Black Friday), the price of the system will probably rocket much higher than it currently is. I should have bought a whole bunch and turned them for a profit. Oh well.

It may be years before I can afford one, but I do want one.

The fact that they are trying to launch worldwide within a few weeks of the U.S. launch is crazy!

The plant building the 360's is pumping them out like crazy.

Slashdot is running an article titled "XBOX 360 - Very Unstable".

But it appears most of the crashes are due to XBOXes that aren't ventilated properly.

It wouldn't be a Microsoft product if it didn't periodically crash.

I don't think that they will sell through 3 million systems in the US, as most retailers are telling customers that they will not get in another shipment until January. You got to remember that while they may be pumping them out like crazy, they are doing a close to worldwide launch, which means that no specific region will be getting the system in huge volumes, which in turn further makes it look like it is the hottest thing on the market this year, similar to the Tickle Me Elmo craze that happened years ago, or the IPod craze that happens just about every year.

I was planning on buying one of these for my little brother for X-mas, but I don't think I'll get that chance, and I don't want to drop 2 grand on e-bay so I guess he gets something else!

I have to keep counting my spare change. So far I'm up to $160+ in rolled up pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

We'll have to see what I come up with, but I just want to be able to say that I bought a 360 with pocket change. ;-)

I'll get one one day. no rush. I have plenty of other games to keep me busy. Media Play has already severely discounted many Xbox games to make way for the 360. I'm sure other places have or will too. I'll feast on the markdowns the grab a 360 in a year or so when it's sitting on shelves everywhere.

besides, I'll get to play the one Phoenix buys with his pocket change.

On another unrelated note i saw displays for Halo 3 day of the 360 launch.

My buddy that runs a GameStop said he will be getting some next Tuesday.

You should sell the box and the system separately.  I guarantee you'll get much more that way.  People will bid on the box without even reading the auction.  PLEASE do this.  (Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi [I am lazy or I would check spelling] - You're our only hope!)

I would sell them separately.  As far as I am concerned, it is totally morally fine.  I would clearly state in the auction that it was for the "BOX ONLY," so it's not like I'd be misleading anyone.  I saw people do that when PS2 came out and I gave them all extra points.  (Since I am the one that gives out points.)

It may technically be morally ok, but I would feel really bad for the coal miner from Eastern Ohio who spends his entire November salary on a box for his son that he thought would also include an Xbox 360. Poor poor guy. I am not saying I am against this plan, but I do think that it could be really really evil.

Or maybe you can sit outside an Easter Seals apartment complex with a 360 box and a price tag of $100, put box only somewhere on the box.  Then when a retard buys the box you can laugh all the way to the bank.

There is nothing wrong with auctioning the box alone the way Nep has suggested, and the way it has been suggested in the past. I honestly do not see how being a corrupt politician and selling the box separately are in any way related. Corrupt Politicians perform immoral acts all the time – They purposefully go back on promises, they mislead, and they screw people over. However in this auction, I don't see how we are doing this in any case by auctioning off the 360 box separately. If the auction is clearly marked all over the place as for the box only, such as the statement, "This is for the BOX ONLY.  There is no XBox 360 system in this auction.  Again, for the thick-headed, this is the BOX ONLY." I don't see how we are possibly misleading anyone if we adorn the auction with these types of disclaimers. The honest truth of the matter is that people need to research what they are buying to make sure they are getting what they want.  In this case how hard is to make the connection that you are not buying an Xbox 360 when the title of the auction is “Xbox 360 BOX ONLY,” and has disclaimers such as the one previously mentioned. I can feel a little bit sorry for someone who buys this thinking it is a 360, but then the bidder should have thoroughly researched the item before he bid, so he should understand that what he is buying is not a 360.

There is no market for XBOX 360 boxes separately.  Your hopes are that someone misreads, skims over, etc the ad and confuses it for a real XBOX.  You will gladly accept $500+ for the box alone.  That's where the problem is.

You're using the EXACT SAME mentality as nearly every other scammer on earth.  Yes people should research more before they buy, I agree 100%.  If they did there would be no scams.  The people who do it are still pathetic.

I mean whatever, if that's what you want to do go ahead.  Someone's grandmother who isn't hip to computers might buy that box accidentally, it's a real jackass thing to do.

Hopefully you don't get scammed someday.

If you're not trying to rip anyone off, and your intentions are good, put the box up with a Buy it Now price of $10 - $20.

I don't think it's exactly the same thing.  Scammers mislead (and therefor lie), and that is where the difference is.  People should indeed research before they buy - but I can hardly say reading the auction description or even just the title is qualified as research.  When you spend $400 or more on something, do you do so without even looking to see what you are getting?  Bidding on a $400 auction that you've not read the description of is the equivalent of buying a closed brown paper bag for $400 without ever opening to see its contents.  It's not about research or knowledge - it's about being a freaking imbecile.  Also, nobody's grandmother is going to have this happen to them.  Grandmothers are not the type of person to bid hundreds of dollars on a video game system, especially not without both reading the auction AND getting somebody they know to check that they are getting the right thing.  In the description I (or TraderJake suggested), even they could figure out that they should not drop the money.  Scammers telling lies about a project or people not even paying attention to blatant and honest data about a product?  Big difference.

As for talking about having a 360....  nobody has one.  You'll get to play the thing more if you just stop at Wal-Mart your way home from work every day.

I am with Yap on this one. Even if the seller puts BOX ONLY in the auction I still think the seller is trying to scam buyers.

I agree that it's a scam to attempt something like this because it's being done with the intent of misleading the buyer.  I have seen legit auctions for boxes of vintage systems but the intent there was to sell to a collector, not trick someone (regardless of the intellect or financial status) out of their money.

Well, there are collectors who only want the box for some systems and items.

Doesn't sound like he's saying try to sell the box to a collector.  Like I said if the intent is to trick someone it's wrong.  If your really trying to sell a box to a collector and someone buys it by mistake, that's a different story.

We got our's on launch day. We were like the 4th folks in the store and all those who pre-ordered got their's (at Best Buy). We actually got 3 of them (there were 3 of us there). Ted's boss bought 2 of them. One of those systems is going to one of the employees on the last day of the month. Ted is tied with another dude for it. He'll probably get it so then we'll have 2. We really need it cause I gotta share with Ted -and- his brother. Got Quake 4, Perfect Dark, and Call of Duty. I'm in love with Quake 4 and other than that, only play a few Arcade games that I got (and love). I did get the satisfaction of grabbing the last 3 play and charge kits while the rest of the pre-order folks and others (who were lucky enough to get a 360) had to do without. Fuck em, we can't afford batteries and they sure looked like they could....hehe
