Title: Konami announces TurboGrafx-16 Mini console

From what I understand, from left to right is US, Europe, and Japanese versions.  The revealed games so far for Europe and US are:

R-Type
New Adventure Island
Ninja Spirit
Ys Book 1 & II
Dungeon Explorer
Alien Crush

Original aspect ratios, a save state function, scanlines (that hopefully can be turned on or off), and coming with two USB controllers.  It says a multitap will be available as well for five player compatibility, which seems to suggest that maybe more than one Turbotap game will be playable (maybe Bomberman?).  Of course Japan is getting Rondo of Blood, but I am curious what is next.  I don't know if I will get it (I already own half the games on the list, though mostly in digital).

Who is taking bets on this being a bomb?  Or will the unheard of happen and will this become the new NES Classic Edition.

This is exciting news. However, like always, I'm carefully optimistic. It all depends which developer will be responsible for the emulation. If it shapes up like the Genesis Mini with M2 and a fantastic lineup of games, I'll get it for sure. I just hope it won't be a Playstation Mini.

I missed the boat for the Turbografix, so this would be ideal for me. The announced two Ys games are great, so is Ninja Spirit, and there are so many options for a great game lineup like Neutopia, the Bonk games, Blazing Lasers, Keith Courage and many more. I hope also for Castlevania Dracula X.

Great news, I hope Konami grabs this opportunity to improve its damaged reputation.

TurboGrafx emulation is pretty on point these days, so unless they hire a completely incompetent team to handle it, I suspect it will be reasonably good. Ninja Spirit and New Adventure Island are great choices, not only because they're good games, but because they've become quite expensive. Alien Crush and Dungeon Explorer less so, but still pricier than the average retro game. I'm hoping the full list will have more shooters than just R-Type. The Turbo version is solid, but there are far better examples of the genre on that console, especially Hudson's Star Soldier series games.

I don't know if they would do it, but I would love to see a large amount of games on the console akin to the Retro-bit Super Retro-cade (which has over 90), or basically everything that Konami own from their Hudson purchase.  While I wouldn't do so for my Vita, I would gladly hang up my Wii in favor of a worthy Turbografx/PC Engine plug and play (which I basically use to play Virtual Console on anyway).

Only Mini system so far I don't have a bunch of games for the original system so this does interest me. I just hope it's a 2020 release. Too full on 2019.

Rumor is, M2 may be behind the emulation, so that bodes well.

I've never had the chance to play a TurboGrafx 16 or any of the games for that matter. If it comes in at a decent price point I might have to pick one up.

I hadn't until I bought a TurboGrafx about 12 years ago. Even then, I've only managed to collect about a dozen games for it, and most of the experience that I've had with it has been emulation or flashcard, or watching footage. I'm looking forward to seeing the final game list, and how it performs, because it will be interesting to see how well it does, given its much smaller market penetration here in North America. I know the PC Engine was a big deal in Japan, but it sank like a stone everywhere else.

The additions are very welcome! Some good stuff in there. I know I'll be playing both Spriggan games, and will be loving Galaga 88 and Splatterhouse. I already have Dragon Spirit, but I will probably dabble in that as well :D

I'm a little disappointed in the input latency, and apparently some of the games have sound delay, but overall, this is a solid package. I'm hoping there will either be a firmware upgrade at some point, or someone in the homebrew community will figure out how to reduce the lag, either through a run-ahead, or some other solution.

Despite that, if it exists for under $120 next year (I'm not buying any more games for 2020), I still think I'm going to get it.  I really would like a legal way to play Ys Book 1 and 2, Neutopia II, and Rondo of Blood.  I know you can get Rondo of Blood with Dracula X Chronicles (that may be the way to go for me in the future), but as far as I know you cannot get the TurboCD versions of Ys Book (my favorite version) or Neutopia II anywhere else.

I recommend getting one if you have interest and ability to do so.  It took me a long time to get used to the latency for Blazing Lazers, but I have cleared it and Splatterhouse, Ninja Spirit, and halfway through New Adv. Island on the Mini so far, so once acclimated I think it's ok. Frankly if you aren't too accustomed to the feel of the originals it would not be as noticeable on many of the games.
I am a big TG16 fan and I'm very glad to have one.

Thank you, I will take that advice.  I haven't played the originals in many years, but if they have about as much lag as the Wii VC titles, I will be fine.  I don't really play shooters and I unless the lag is comical, I won't care.  If I can find one after the new year, I will seek one out.

Yeah, without a solid basis of comparison I would say you'd be fine. Even the shmups are doable with practice, and I'm no 1cc expert.
