Title: Help with some C64 games Post by: Bear78 on April 18, 2019, 10:39:44 AM Hey guys, I got 3 C64 games recently and while there are entries for them in the database, none of them really fit with what I have and I'm not sure how to submit them.
First off, the easy one. The Slugger. This entry already exists with cover art scanned in so I submitted a variation as mine has different packaging. http://rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-018-S-04330-A Now, here's where it gets tricky... Speed King is the next up. There is already and entry for it but my version is a "flippy disk" which has both C64 AND Atari 800XL versions of the game on the same disk. The current entry is for C64 only so would this be a variation? Should it be submitted under both systems? http://rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-018-S-09500-A And lastly, Kikstart. This one again has an entry and looks to be right for mine as it's another "flippy disk". There is only an entry under C64 though so if you were collecting Atari 800, you wouldn't know about this... Also, mine appears to be for both the US, Spain, Italy, and German market. So again, another variation? http://rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-018-S-21100-A I already scanned all 3 games which you can find here: https://app.box.com/s/ms7104vqh17j00fh0e2om7r4a3h6yb08 TLDR; I have these 3 C64 games and don't know how to put them into the database and should there be entries for these under Atari 800 also? There is already and entry for it but my version is a "flippy disk" which has both C64 AND Atari 800XL versions of the game on the same disk. The current entry is for C64 only so would this be a variation? Should it be submitted under both systems? http://rfgeneration.com/c...nfo.pl?ID=U-018-S-09500-A From what I can tell from google/ebay, there are two 5.25" floppy disk variations for the C64, both of which are multi-platform and use the same UPC/Part No. I can't say for certain that a C64-only version doesn't exist, but I couldn't find one. The Flippy disk version you own is most likely the original, as the other version has a single-sided disk, a smaller folder and less inserts. In other words, you should submit your scans for the existing C64 entry. As to whether there should be a separate DB entry for the Atari 800, the answer is "no". The rule of thumb is one product one entry. If a game variation supports multiple platforms then we tend to select the platform deemed to be the best fit (eg. IBM PC for IBM/Mac compatibles, XB360 for 360+XBox One titles) Quote And lastly, Kikstart. This one again has an entry and looks to be right for mine as it's another "flippy disk". As with Speed King there are two Commodore/Atari variations (that I know of): a Flippy Disk and a single-sided disk, but I don't know much about packaging info for these. That said, I don't have much exposure to these systems, so feel free to gainsay me. We do have the Multiple Consoles, but we've tended to use it for accessories and the like. There isn't a great way to handle these things, but we should just put it in the best spot we can.
