Title: High Score/Speed Run Forum
Post by: Izret101 on August 10, 2005, 03:19:05 PM
I urge only the people who would use this forum to actually vote yes.

I figured why not do a general census of what people think.
If this forum where to be created it would of course only be with Mike's permission.

But if people are as serious as i am about beating eachother for various highscores and speed runs then it would keep the Video Game Generation clean from oodles of such posts.

Plus it would be easier to go thru threads to find a specific game than a ton of posts in one thread.

If enough people are interested in it and it gets greenlighted than it would also probably be beneficial to decide exactly how it would work.
Would people want to have their own thread to enter their high-scores/best times in or would there be threads with various genres in which people would opst their best time for a game or it could get as specific as a thread for any individual game.

But everyone can decide that if and when the time comes. :)

In 3 years there's 1 high score thread. I'm sure we don't need a forum for it.

It sounds like a good idea, but I know that I would never use it, so what does my opinion on this matter?

It's an idea and i wanted to get other peoples opinions on it.

I wasn't aware that everytime someone had an idea they had to do a Mark check to make sure it was OK.  >:(
Also has it been 3 years? My how that 2nd and 3rd anniversary flew by :P

Doesn't look like anyone is interested anyways.
There are 4 votes and the most votes we have had on anythign that i am aware of was 15 or 16 on the contest.
So with 1/4th of the voters already not caring or not for it it seems that the idea was already shot down.

Whatever i am going to get my awesome Sonic speed-run time.  :D

Aren't I someone here that can give his opinion as good as everyone else? Maybe you should have put 'everyone but Mark' in the topic title, if you didn't want me to vote and give my opinion.

And 3 years includes VGB.

A forum might be a good idea.  I don't know if maybe we can make it a sub-forum like they do over at Atari Age, but that might not be a bad idea if we don't want to add another full fledged forum for it.

If nothing else, maybe we could do a weekly high score contest.  Just make one post a week with a game to get a high score on.  That could reduce clutter.

I don't see a reason to not give it a shot. if it ends up as a little used forum it can always be deleted and the threads moved to the main forum.

If it does take off I know I wouldn't want to see a bunch of high score threads cluttering the main forum.

the Gym forum doesn't see heavy traffic yet we still have that one.

Sorry if you took offense to it.
I didn't write that angrily.
Can't really capture emoutions via text.
I don't bother with smilies if it is really angry. :)
But your so damn negative about everything it gets annoying.
Plus i put a :P in the next line.

Glad to see some people are for it.

Also like the weekly contest idea Sauza.
I just wanted to try and get some comeptition going outside of the few fantasy leagues.

Also Den has a very valid point too :)
If it ends up sucking and getting less use that The Gym and you think it is a waste of space can it and add the threads to the Video Game Generation forum.

Can't hurt to try. I would rather do a gaming league the a Fantasy Football league.

Well, it's 4-4 now. I say we wait till next week and if there are more people in favour of it I'll make one.

I changed my vote.

I don't know how much my vote should count as I am a new guy to this board, but I voted yes. I would probally use it from time to time. Unfortunately the few games I am really good at are either too obscure (even for this board) or don't have high scores like Halo or Command and Conquer.

Obscure is good. :)
It would get people to try new things.
And Halo didn't have a scoring system. You could do speed runs that we wouldn't be able to prove because they would be long videos.

As for C&C scoring in that game seems to be trivial.
It doesn't really count for anything like the win records do.

O yeah and everyones opinions count.
New and old
Thats what makes us great :)

EDIT
Everyones opinion counts except Marks.
:P
