PRE-RetroWorld Expo Meetup

Are you an active member of the RFGeneration Community?
Do you want to hang out with the hosts of the RFGeneration Collectorcast and RFGeneration Playcast (as well as other active members of the RFGeneration Community)?

I don't have a super big house, but for those who are going to be in the area the night before RetroWorld Expo, I would love to have you over to hang out and maybe play a few games.

Please keep in mind that my house is about 1 hour from the Wallingford, CT, where the Expo is, so if you have a hotel in that area, it would be a bit of a drive for you.

Please send me a PM if you plan on attending so that I can plan accordingly.  I don't believe I have any spare couch or air mattress room at my place so plan your sleeping accommodations ahead of time

We have purchased a table at RetroWorld Expo for RFGeneration.  The space is a little larger than 8'x8'.  The space isn't huge but we wanted to have:

-A central spot for RFGeneration members to meet up
-A laptop or two to display the site and encourage new member sign ups
-Some printable checklists to hand out to help show what we are all about
-A place for Duke and Crabby to sign anything their fans want them to
-a few surprises..

I'd like to come out to this. It's been a long time since I've gone to a convention and I've never been to a gaming one so, I gotta make it out to this one.

I'm tentative right now. Got lots of time so I'm gonna try to make it happen

I am planning to attend..like Crabby I am tentative as we do have lots of time and I am going to try and make it happen.  Also it would be my first convention if I don't go to the one in Iowa this year in July.

I am planning on it and have gotten the toughest part of it out of the way, discussing it with my wife. I have a beach trip planned for the following weekend that would leave her with the kids for 2 weekends, so that's the pile of eggshells that I am currently navigating. Early signs are good that I will be in attendance and I've already looked at the price of flights and discussed it with her.

I'd love to do a meet up for everyone attending and I don't think it would be a bad idea to do some name tags with our handles and avatar on there just in case we run across each other while there. Plus, it's a good way to promote the site.

Maybe an RFGen T shirt with a hello my name is on the front that people could fill in with a marker...

Wow, only about two and a half hours from where I live now, but by October I had damn well better be living about 1600 miles further away.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't fly up for it.

WOOP!  PARTY AT BIL'S HOUSE!

My girlfriend and I discussed this last night, and we're tentatively making plans to bring Kentucky (with an added Tennessee twang on my part) to Connecticut. You can add me to the list. I am very excited to meet the fine folks at RFGeneration and put a face to a name (or a fruit in Banana's case).

Plus, with a little luck, I'll be able to snag a game or two that will REALLY make the trip worth it :)

I shall be there of course ha . Should have my Mario Car on display on the inside if all goes well. If anyone wants to meet up early and hang out that Friday let me know.

Depending on what Bil has lined up for me, it would be nice for all of us to at least go out to dinner Friday or Saturday evening.

Friday is a possibility.  The event goes until close to midnight on Saturday so maybe an afterparty?

I can take off Friday if you'll be down banana and we can chill.

yeah sounds like a good time. I will see what I can put together with Bil once it gets closer. Like I said I don't know if we have to go there the night before to help set up tables and other things, so maybe we could hang out after that on Friday night. Who knows.

We can def visit the Orange Retro Games its only 20 mins from Wallingford. Maybe hit some of the Game Exchanges as well.

I'll be landing in White Plains around 9:50 am on Friday. Not sure what the distance is, but I'll be about 45 mins from Bil's. Looking into renting a car, but we will see.

yeah I'm about 40 mins from where Bil is. I live in West Haven, and the store is in Orange. Bil are you working that Friday or did you take it off??

I think I will be at MGC this year, along with RWX.

I'll be off on Friday, maybe even Thursday.  We are pushing for a Friday night set up but it's not definite yet.

You should start a MGC thread, shaggy.  Meetups are the knees of the bees.

I want to come, just don't know if I can swing it yet. Maybe if I get a few more sales of my stuff, I can justify the ticket, car, hotel, etc...

Man, I wish I could.

If anyone is looking for flights, I can't recommend the Skyscanner site enough. It monitors the price of flights and I saved a good bit on my ticket by pulling the trigger at the right time.

Thanks for the tip. Will have to keep them saved for the next time i need to fly.

I must have missed this. It's only a 3 hour drive for me, so I would like to go. It's going to depend on how my trip to the Too Many Games expo goes with my son if he can handle this one too.

Yes I'm headed to PRGE. Going to stay with a bud out there who has a booth as well for the event. We'll have to start a new thread for that when it gets closer.

Should we plan a specific meet up time for RF Gen members?  Also, I think a group photo might be in order for anyone who wants to participate in it.

Wish I could drive to Portland but from CT that would take like 4 or 5 days ha. I'm saving up my loose change and selling some art.

I also have a booth at Retro World selling stuff. So whatever I make there will be spending cash.

So, it looks like I'm going to start making plans to be there. Anyone else going that would want to split a hotel room or is there somewhere I could crash?

Are we chipping in for a hotel room for Bil's wife?  She's going to want to kill us....

Since so many people are planning on flying in or driving long distance maybe trying to get a group rental price at a hotel wouldn't be a bad idea. Try and grab rooms in advance /a whole floor if we can pin down the exact number of people who are planning on attending.

I'm trying to sock away money to stay down for the weekend. Its only ~1.5 hour drive for me (i think) but if people are going to be there for a couple days i'd love to hang out play some games, eat some foods, maybe even do some hunting :D

(Already planning on swapping my part time sunday night shift and depending on how the fulltime job is going i might take friday off)

Same here. Loving the turnout. We should set up a time and place to meet up at the convention for a group photo at some point.

Hey guys. I would def rock that pink onezee or how every you spell it.
As far as I know Bil's wife and baby will be staying at the inlaws for the night so we have the house to ourselves.

But Bil and I may have to leave early to help set up and I have to set up my table.

I did hear that the oakdale has no events from a few days before so they will let us in ealry to set up the arcades so we don't have to go at like 4 am so that's good.

I also took the whole day off friday. So I'll be around and will be glad to bring anyone to the retro games plus locations to have a look around. I manage the orange store but there is one in Westport and newington.

It looks like Crabby and I will be road tripping it from the Indianapolis area if you want to hitch a ride with us and split some travel costs. We'll be crashing at Casa de Bil, but hopefully someone else here can split a room with you.

If I had the time Bick we could of drove together but I can only take maybe one extra of those days off...but I'm still figuring things out.

Flight further away, but including a car and hotel for about the price I was looking at initially for just the flight. Still willing to split a room though to save us each a bit of money.

On an update from my side tickets aren't too bad and IF I can swing it I would be flying in Thursday by 1:45 pm in to Bradley/Hartford Intl.  Now hotel room is another story...might have to see IF I go if I can split the costs with someone if they are staying in a hotel Thursday to Sunday of if I fly in Friday-Sunday.  But I'll keep everyone posted I won't know anything sadly now until the middle to end of September if my vacation is approved and we don't have anything big planned at work.  SO sadly I am still a big IF :( I really want to go!

I'm flying Delta, but it's Friday. Should be in to Bradley around 6:30 unfortunately, so I'm not sure who will still be around then. Flying out Sunday morning as well.

For the rental car overnight, it's generally considered a no-no.

Connecticut is 2.5 hours drive from where I live.  I would love to go to this as it would be my first ever.  I'll have to work out logistics, but if I do go, then I am definitely down to meet up with some fellow RFG members beforehand.  I'll keep updates on here...

You're not kidding. I was thinking about it and it's just over 2 weeks out now. I should get out my carry-on bag to make sure it's clean... Need to find my Vita also and get it charged up.

We got back to Bil's around 1am. It's now 5:44 and Izret is driving me to the airport. I think everyone would agree, it was awesome, but we're exhausted. Expect many comments and scores though!

ahhh man FibroFreak. Yeah we were there all day there was a RFGen table and even a panel.

Def had a good time. Currently with Eric playing some Castlevania before I head to work

When did the Expo end?  Go to the bars afterwards?  I can't wait to see the pictures, hear the tales, and see the ensuing goofiness!  I want a detailed list of events. :laugh:

Yesterday was super busy, especially for Bil. We all took turns working the RF Gen table and got a few people signed up for the site. Our presence there was really positive in that we met a lot of people who did not know about the site and that such a FREE resource was out there for them. We met a lot of good people, who will hopefully use our site.  The event was spectacular and there was a heavy turn out for it being a first year event. If you're interested in some details, check out the front page tomorrow!

I most certainly will check out the front page tomorrow.  I am very interested in the festivities that happened!

We've already had some new visitors make submissions to the site as well!

I got slayed on the MKII arcade cab by Duke and Bick.

Very nice! We had a good presence there and talked to quite a lot of people about the site. We need a table banner and cards to pass out next year.

I offered to print up cards... oh well.

use QR codes too! large one on the banner, small ones on the hand-outs. have it link to either the homepage or the sign-up page.

General consensus I got from vendors is that flyers are highly ineffective...

I did a lot of telling with vendors...

Business cards seem the way to go.

We used to have a blinking nes/tv that would flash to an rfgen game/logo. Should have the gif kicking around here somewhere... If not I should have a copy on my PC.
The QR code could go on the CRT like a static screen Keep It On Channel 3 above or below it ;)

I have no opinion on QR codes. I could count on one hand how many times I have used them and likely have fingers left over.

Also "telling" should have been talking. I still hate using a phone for typing despite using it as much if not more than a PC now.
