Title: what games can I play on a PC from 1992?
Post by: gbpxl on January 16, 2015, 08:17:54 PM
I bought one off eBay a while back but haven't messed around with it too much. I can tell it was used in a school for a long time based on the programs. no games on it though.

I was looking forward to JezzBall and Chip's Challenge but as I said no games. It seems that the computer has problems even running basic programs. It can run the clock program and that's about it. I need to get a copy of Windows 3.1 and re-format.

Jezzball was so addictive. We used to play one at school called Scorched Earth too that was super fun.

If you have a way of writing floppy disk images (not on that PC though) then you could try this: https://winworldpc.com/product/windows-3/31
Apparently you'll need to install DOS first: https://winworldpc.com/product/ms-dos/622

Good luck finding drivers though...

I've been wanting a classic PC to do DOS gaming on for the longest time. First and foremost, I was a DOS gamer as a kid because I could get everything I wanted as shareware for free.

What specs does it have? It matters a lot. Also, just use DOS. Windows 3.11 is pointless.

I remember in around 1992 we got new neighbours. A couple in their late twenties. He'd let us play on his pc. Wolvenstein 3D was good, but Railroad Tycoon was amazing. At home we had a pc that was something like an 8086. Ducktales: The quest for gold played like a slideshow. Paratrooper ran well though. So did loderunner. But at the time those were around 10 years old already.

Dune II was released in 1992. It was absolutely amazing. Briliant game. Merchant Prince was released in 1993 and i loved the hell out of it too. Mortal Kombat is worth a try too, but ideally you'll need a gamepad for that. Prince of Persia is a bit older, but well worth playing. At least, it was in 1992. I can also recommend Sim City 2000.

Oh I miss 1992.
