Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on December 21, 2014, 12:34:18 PM For Christmas, my mom tends to clean out some of my old room and give me back some items I had as a kid. When I left the house for college, she said I could take any of the games and consoles I wanted EXCEPT for the Game Boy. She's held on to these for 12 years now, and finally decided this year to relinquish them. I present to you, my childhood Game Boy collection:

Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Zagnorch on December 21, 2014, 01:54:08 PM Hey now,
Was there a particular reason she held onto your Game Boy stuff for so long? She really into Tetris or something? If so, I don't blame her for holding out on you. Seriously, just curious. Although I've already displayed a couple RFGen care packages on Small Scores, I figure it wouldn't hurt to show 'em off again. Here's some stuff from Bombatomba: When I was a kid, I was big into MAD magazine, and saved up to buy the Spy vs. Spy I & II double-feature game for the Commodore 64. Sadly, the first copy I bought failed to load at all, so I exchanged it for another copy, which worked... for about two days. Fortunately, the third time was the charm. I wanted to put that particular release on my wish list, but it wasn't listed in the database, so I put this on it instead... and obviously, someone was paying attention. Hopefully, this one will hold up much better than those first two disks. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on December 21, 2014, 02:14:07 PM She was a gamer mom and loved puzzle and pinball games, which were mostly what we had for the Game Boy. She left the Game Boy Color downstairs along with the games and would pick up and play Tetris and a few other games a few nights a week.
Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: GrayGhost81 on December 21, 2014, 02:35:35 PM That's a great Game Boy collection to re-inherit. Kwirk was one of my favorites as a kid too!

She left the Game Boy Color downstairs along with the games and would pick up and play Tetris and a few other games a few nights a week. Tetris always gets 'em. BTW is she holding onto anything else of yours that you're aware of? That's a great Game Boy collection to re-inherit. Kwirk was one of my favorites as a kid too! I saw a few carts in those pics that I'd like to have in my collection. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on December 21, 2014, 03:27:41 PM She's got plenty more of my things, including board games and books. Games-wise though, I think this might be the rest of it, aside from some stand-alone handhelds.

Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: A8scooter on December 22, 2014, 11:57:55 PM First Christmas gift of the season came from my game store boss who after I took this in on trade in said I paid a higher % than I should have on a price higher than i should have taken it from ( happens ) so I havent heard the end of it yet ( in a joking fashion ) . So tonight at the company dinner ( me him and the other employee ) my company gift was that same cart I wanted for my collection that I got my chops busted for. Funny I would have loved to pay what he ended up paying for the game. But with such a GEM looking label Im happy for this baby to make it into my collection and glad to see this being the FIRST item of the holiday.
So welcome to the collection my SNES Super Metroid Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: mumboking on December 23, 2014, 12:17:57 AM I'm sorry, but I can't help looking at the (Matchbox?) cars next to your keyboard...Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: TheBoss on December 23, 2014, 01:38:41 PM Little Busters! How about we start with Zagnorch? (http://s60.photobucket.com/user/grayghost81/media/IMG_20141225_111205_990_zps9b3ef06d.jpg.html) First he sent these awesome PS3 bumper stickers. I must say out of all the people he sent these to here, I'm the most deserving because I actually like Playstation. And check out this special edition Mini Amiibo Goomba! I can't wait to play Smash 64 with it! (http://s60.photobucket.com/user/grayghost81/media/IMG_20141225_111137_890_zps4903c6c1.jpg.html) A portal and figures for Disney Infinity for the Wii. Now if only I had the game...FORESHADOWING! (http://s60.photobucket.com/user/grayghost81/media/IMG_20141225_111259_734-1_zps17c73e1e.jpg.html) Oh shit look at that! Mrs. Grayghost got me a copy of Disney Infinity for the Wii! Yay! And look Duke, I finally got Bravely Default. 3DS collection: COMPLETE. Lastly my wife has a knack for grabbing random shit that "looks Japanese" because she knows that's what I like, hence a visual novel for the Vita based on the BlazBlue universe. Sounds good to me! Not to sound greedy but I think this is only the beginning! Hope everyone else is also making out like bandits. May you all be as happy as the NINTENDO SIXTY FOOOUUUURRRRR Kid. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Duke.Togo on December 25, 2014, 12:15:27 PM And look Duke, I finally got Bravely Default. But here it all is:
We now have two sets of the ColecoVision, Intellivision, Atari Flashback 5 and then the Surprises were - The Sega Genesis Classic Game Console - been wanting this for a long time especially since you can play Genesis carts on it. Best thing is all 4 sets are brand new!! Then he also got me the Halo Mega Blocks Figures Set - we are going to try and do a Red Vs. Blue Re-enactment with Mega Blocks ;-) Well if he lets me buy the vehicles - he's a huge LEGO guy and Mega Blocks are no bueno with the exception of Christmas and he got me that awesome set!! He also grabbed me a Special Edition of Beyond Two Souls, and then my parents got me two of my favorite 80's movies and yes laugh all you want Mannequin & Mannequin Two (well that's 90's) both on Laser Disc! They also got me sweet TMNT Mug/Cup with the original Turtles on it and finally they got me Ducktales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp & Gargoyles Season 2 Part 2 both exclusive only at Wal-Mart at this time. There was a bunch of other stuff like baseball cards and what not...but here's some pictures. But the story for this stuff is my Mom, Brother, and Grandma went to Half Price Books a while back and she got my brother and I $50.00 gift cards so I told my brother to take my gift card today and go because they had 20% off and I stayed with my grandfather to make sure he is okay, well just got home a little while ago and had a huge back of Christmas goodies sitting on my chair --- well my brother and mom know exactly what I want...The games and movies from my brother and the Books from my mom as she has a little pocket notebook of mine of books I am looking for..and just so everyone knows I read about two books at a time...including my school books.
Stubbs my brother said was Half off from the original price of $25 so marked down to $12.50 and then they had the store wide 20% off sale so sweet deal and bonus now I have both versions of Stubbs and great now I have the trailer song from this game in my head -- lollipop, lollipop.... doh! Time to show off a care package from our very own 413th Technical Entity: And awaaaaay we go. Cool, now I have two of these! I wonder if I should break the news to him that this actually isn't my 200th full PS1 title. I'm actually still eight games away from that mark. It is, however, the 200th overall addition to my PS1 collection... They have ALL of the first Disney Infinity characters now that they got the villians pack. I wish I could keep all the amiibo characters in their boxes b/c they would make for great displays in my game room. But that's not happening either. Haha that's incredible. Genesis collecting has really picked up in popularity recently, so prices are rapidly rising on everything that's a little tougher to find. Plus, given the greater rarity of the NES version in relation to that of the Genesis one, the Genesis provides a slightly easier to find format on which to play the sought-after piece of crap game haha. My kids got me the Coleco Flashback. This was a nice surprise, as I've always wanted a Coleco but have had to pass up on it for things I wanted more (such as a C64). Man this thing is awesome. Not really digging the Frenzy port (I'm a bit of a Berzerk/Frenzy snob), but I'm in love with Pepper II, so much that it's kept me from Kentucky Route Zero as well as my next few blog posts. The next group of photos are from my NSSS claim. Zag basically filled the entire box with a bunch of portable carrying cases, system holders, and game cases. Also, there is the obligatory PS3 sticker, the signature that the contents are truly approved by Zag in Terra. Not shown is the 3DS case and game cases, which my son has "claimed" and squirreled away somewhere. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Fokakis79 on December 28, 2014, 06:08:51 PM I got the following for my Birthday and X-Mas. I got money as well which I am saving up for a PS4.
Not Pictured is Playstation Store Card for $20 - I bought the Ivory King DLC content for Dark Souls II, the last one of the three that were released. Farming Simulator is an Awesome game, I have been playing it non-stop since Christmas. The only problem I have is the damn Fork Lift has the most awkward controls. Other than that I couldn't be happier. Under Defeat is fun, I used to play a burned copy on my Dreamcast but decided to ask for this one. Has this one been chosen yet for the Schmup Playthrough yet? I played the others a little bit, and they all seem to be fun so far. I got some non-gaming stuff as well, but i will try and post that to that specific thread soon. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Crabmaster2000 on December 28, 2014, 06:52:36 PM I didn't know Under Defeat was put on on the PS3. Gotta find one now!

I didn't get exactly all of these for Christmas, but I got some duplicate Blu Rays and games so I returned them and used the credit to buy games. So I technically didn't get about half of the games here for Christmas, but I did at the same time. Whatever, here they are:
In addition to that, we had Christmas for both my family and her family at our house. After everything was over, she surprised me with one last gift she was holding out on: She got it from Craigslist so there wasn't any outer box, but everything is there. She's pretty awesome. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: shaggy on January 18, 2015, 04:08:32 PM Late Christmas gift from my brother. My kids LOVE it! And it is pretty cool.
Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Ikariniku on February 04, 2015, 06:49:02 PM February? How is it February? January went by in a flash due to an exhausting stretch at work, and now I find myself having done the fine folks at RFGen a disservice, most of all my Secret Santa and jolly ol’ Swagnorch. Maybe I can’t make up for my tardiness, but I can at least give credit where credit is due at long last.
The only two retro gaming items waiting for me under the tree on Christmas were from RF Gen members. It made the holiday morning way more exciting as a collector as a bit of that old anticipation of what games awaited me returned.. First up, RF Gen Secret Santa! Here's the list of goodies, in case the picture is unclear. Epyx500XJ for NES Quickshot Flight Grip for NES Naki Eliminators for the SNES and Genesis NHLPA Hockey '93 (With a sticker endorsing the Mighty Ducks. Hmmmm…..) Bases Loaded Kung Fu Tecmo Super Bowl Bart Versus the Space Mutants Jungle Hunt (2600) Pac-Man (2600) Combat (2600) Cosmic Avenger (Colecovision) From TV Animation One Piece: Mezase Kaizokuou! (Wonderswan) How to Win at Nintendo Games #2 by Jeff Rovin That is a bevy of gaming goodness no matter how you look at it. The two NES controllers are especially welcome, as I am a hardware freak. Sadly, both are a little small for my grotesque manhands, but that doesn’t mean I like them any less. The clicky-ness of the Epyx500XJ is very satisfying, and, despite its small size, I want desperately to find a game it’s suited for. How to Win at Nintendo Games #2 was a serendipitous, “No way!” sort of moment. I have How to Win at Nintendo Games [#1]. I picked it up over a decade ago at a library book sale. receiving its sequel at of the blue now was great. the best part is that there was no way for my Secret Santa to know I had the first one. It’s a Christmas miracle! The games are all greats from bygone ages (though, I did have a wry grin seeing {Pac-Man and Combat show up on my doorstep). My favorites were Tecmo Super Bowl and the Wonderswan One Piece game. Tecmo Super Bowl is a game I’ve been hunting down for some time, never willing to take a $20+ plunge on the game. Now it’s in my collection and I couldn’t be happier. The One Piece game is my first Wonderswan game. I picked up the handheld for a good price on ebay so I could play Crazy Climber for Wonderswan, but having another game is never a bad thing. Also, I’m something of a One Piece fan, so it was a joy to see it here. Also, I didn’t own a Colecovision at Christmas time, but have since picked one up, so Cosmic Avenger (and my other Colecovision games) don’t have to languish on a forgotten cart pile. Again, many, many thanks to my Secret Santa. Now, then, I don’t mean to brag, but I was able to snag Zagnorch’s random box o’ games during his Not-So-Secret Santa. When the huge box arrived, I actually felt guilty. I live across the country from Z, so shipping couldn’t have been cheap. Despite that, greedy anticipation welled up in me as I imagined what might be in the large box. Come Christmas day, I couldn’t wait to dig in. The first thing I found was a note from the man himself. Huh, reminds me of the last note I got from Zag, which I will quote here: "Tough break, get drunk on me. Use the bucket to ice down your marbles, Yours, Z." After the note, we get to the heart of the matter. Interestingly, the large box gave way to more boxes. Two of those boxes are the first games I’ve discovered, a Turbo board game (based on the exciting arcade game by Sega) and Personal Trainer Walking for the DS. I was actually somewhat excited to try out PTW, but the critical pedometer accessory is absent. More on Turbo in a bit. Inside the small brown box was… ...a solitaire handheld, a teeny-tiny racing handheld, and Tetris DS. Nice. Inside the wrapped box was a nice selection of Wii and PS2 games. Mario Kart Wii, Midway Arcade Treasures, and Armored Core are the real winners for me, here, though Mario & Sonic At the Olympic Games could be fun, as well. Next, I stumbled upon something really unexpected. As I opened Turbo to see if all the pieces were inside (they were), I found MORE GAMES! Madden 97, Super Monkey Ball Adventures, Tetris Plus, Ecco the Dolphin, Alien Syndrome (the UMD), and a mystery GBA game (Spoilers, it was a Yugioh game). All in all a bumper crop from Zagnorch, for which he has my thanks. That’s it. That’s my RF Gen Christmas over a month late. Until next time, I think I’ll spend some time going Turbo. Title: Re: RFGeneration Christmas 2014 Post by: Duke.Togo on February 04, 2015, 07:42:21 PM I'm really digging that Epyx 500xj. I got that for Christmas at the same time that I got my original NES.

Any suggestions on a game that works well with it? I never had any other controllers than the two that came with my Action Set, so I like picking them up nowadays. Ironically, the Epyx would likely see more use if it was the VCS version. |
