Title: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Banards on November 17, 2014, 10:41:12 PM Howdy RFGen,
Finally found a PC Engine Complete in Box for a price I could accept. I couldn't be happier! I am having a tough time deciding which games to get. What are some of your personal faves? Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on November 17, 2014, 10:46:41 PM THE EXPENSIVE ONES! Wait, PC-Engine, not TG-16... ;)
Most of the ones that I know of are shmups, Bomberman, and Tower of Druaga. Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Duke.Togo on November 17, 2014, 11:13:35 PM I don't have many yet, but Rondo of Blood and Ninja Gaiden are good. I want to get more of the shooters at some point, especially the Konami releases.

Definitely looking at the shumps, I'm really starting to appreciate those more now that I'm older and don't have the reflexes for them >< Rondo of Blood and Ninja Gaiden sound great. Know of a good place to find pics of the cases? (My Japanese is pretty rusty). Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on November 18, 2014, 09:03:26 PM GameFAQs?

The TG16/PCE CDS are region free. Recommended games: KiKi KaiKai - forerunner to Pocky & Rocky port of the arcade game Toilet Kids - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx0A4B-ceqo Wonder Momo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Momo Star Parodia - Hudson version of Parodius Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jRYOslXTCs Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: MetalFRO on November 19, 2014, 10:41:34 AM Beyond jealous of your Duo-R score, but congrats! I'll second Star Parodia - I have it via the Star Soldier Collection PSP release (Japan-only), and it's a fun game, especially if you're into the Konami cute-em-up games like Parodius, TwinBee, etc. Solid title, lots of fun.

Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Banards on November 19, 2014, 08:10:27 PM Looks like I'm going to have a great time hunting for these crazy shooters. Only in Japan...
I'll get some photos up as soon as I get in the studio. The US controller isn't compatible with the Japanese console right? Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Duke.Togo on November 19, 2014, 08:47:20 PM The US controller isn't compatible with the Japanese console right? Adaptor required. The US plug is huge, the PC Engine's is smaller. Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: Leynos on November 27, 2014, 03:19:46 AM Ys Books I & II. My fave game of all time for my fave series of all time. Take Zelda mix it with an action RPG give it a rock OST and on speed and you got Ys. (eace)
Title: Re: Post by: Banards on November 30, 2014, 09:27:32 PM I'll definitely keep an eye out!
Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: gbpxl on December 25, 2014, 08:54:51 PM I was born in 1989 and I had never even heard of the PC Engine until the mid 2000's. To this day, I haven't seen one. I was almost going to take the plunge and buy one on eBay a few weeks ago but it was just more than what I wanted to spend at the moment.
It seems to me like a console that was meant to replicate the arcade experience at the time, similar to the Neo Geo. From the videos and pictures I've seen, it looks simply beautiful. The system is known for its shmups as I'm sure others have mentioned, and I'm not sure what else the system has to offer in terms of genres that I like- racing, action, fighting, beat em ups, but it's definately one of the "holy grails" of video game systems for collectors- at least for me. I had never heard of the TG16 til 2005 or 2006 I think oh ok, ya even the TG16 was pretty obscure, out at a time when all people cared about was sega or nintendo. Title: Re: PC Engine Duo-R Post by: gbpxl on December 25, 2014, 09:27:41 PM I had never heard of the Neo Geo, CD-I, or 3DO until the internet became big. I vaguely remember seeing an Atari Jaguar at the Mall of America and I remember seeing Game.com games at Best Buy. outside of that it was just Sega, Nintendo, and PlayStation as you said.

Ys I & II |
