I was rather surprised, and a little disappointed, that the other calculator guy, Nupoile, didn't guess correctly.

- RoboCop's partner, Officer Lewis, was played by Nancy Allen. BTW out of all the original RoboCop cast, the guy I'd like to get a phone call from would be Kurtwood Smith. He was spot-on in playing one of the most amazing movie villains ever! And if you think otherwise, then...

- It's not YouBeeSoft or OoBeeSoft... it's ACTIVISION that puts out the Skylanders figures. Come on, get with it, guys. And I've pretty much stopped with the Swap Force collecting, and have gone full-bore into the Trap Team series. Although I've beaten the story mode, I'm still working on completing every quest, finding every hidden area and item, and leveling-up & grinding to pay for upgrades for my figures. I've also been annoying Shadow Kisuragi with endless PMs about the whole deal.

- Hey Duke, does the paperback edition of Game Over have any new material that wasn't included in the hardcover? Just curious...

- I picked up the SMS Altered Beast out of morbid curiosity. For starters, I didn't even know they put it out for the SMS... though it really shouldn't have been all that surprising. I also wanted to see how well it looked and played compared to the Genesis rendition.

- As soon as I read the premise for the Half-Life: Blue Shift expansion, my first thought was, "oh, so this is Paul Blart: Mall Cop: The Game..."

- I didn't actually pick up the Piano Discovery System, though I considered it for a moment. Coincidentally, it was at the same Goodwill where I found two of the boxed Miracle Pianos I've discovered so far.

And no, Herbie Hancock did NOT write or perform Axel F; you're thinking of Harold Faltermeyer.

- I love the GameStop price tag that was still attached to the Steel Battalion game I found. And the best part was that it was the USED price for it!

Sadly, I still have yet to find the controller rig for it. It's just a matter of time, though...


- The way tuition costs are going up stateside, combined with the crushing debt from student loans, you're probably right on the money about college being a fad, Bil... unfortunately.

- Unfortunately, I do NOT have all the Skylanders. There were a few from Giants and Swap Force that were so short-packed, I've never actually seen them "in person." And I'm way too cheap to buy them at secondary market prices. Guess i'll just hafta do without...  :(

- at about the 1:27:00 mark: I'm starting to get the same vibe about the increasing difficulty of finding retro games at garage sales and thrifts for a steal. I'm pretty sure it's thanks mainly to the internet, but people around here by and large seem to be pretty keen about what their wares are actually worth, and price their stuff accordingly. Fortunately, when you live in an area that has a virtual glut of games and hardware, good deals can still be found here and there.

On a related note: if I do find something desirable at a particular thrift that costs a little bit more than I'm usually willing to pay for it, if the staff running the store is friendly and helpful, I'll usually buy it. To me, friendly people and good service is worth the extra buck or two...


'Late

Agreed on the part about being willing to throw an extra couple of bones the store's way if they're helpful and friendly. There's a store in my city that I absolutely loathe and do not go to anymore for the simple fact that the staff is the least-customer service oriented group of people I've ever met. They often have solid titles, but their general attitude drives me away. Conversely, there's a store in town run by an older gentleman who has been in business for twenty years solely because of his friendly disposition and willingness to build relationships with his customers. His prices are a little higher than I would normally pay, but because of his genuine interest in his customers and willingness to stop what he's doing and personally assist you, I've bought a good amount of games from him over the last couple of years.

Uhhh........ I'm certainly glad he didn't guess correctly. Already had a few friends tell me how cool that Atari calculator is on my shelf.

Also, you podcast 2600 noobs should know that Space Canyon is the name of the game. The developer was Panda. DOH!

Zag and zcrich-I was talking to a buddy a few nights ago about a local board game store that sells games at retail prices.  At first I couldn't understand why I would shop there instead of Amazon where everything costs less.  Then I met the dude who runs the store and now I buy everything from him.  Great people who run great stores are worth the cash.

Absolutely. While I definitely prefer paying bargain prices, if I'm paying closer to retail, I'd much rather be supporting someone who is appreciative and passionate than someone who doesn't give a crap about their customers or their job

With that out of the way, it was great to finally get a shout out in a small scores segment.  A heady thrill, that.  It definitely motivates me to catch up with my posting in the small scores thread.  As I've been going through my collection, I keep rediscovering little gems that would make for interesting posts.

One thing I haven't rediscovered is my Power Glove box.  I bought a near-complete, boxed Power Glove in the late '90s for $3.  I should still have that box.  If not, crushing regret.

Glad to perk you!  I remember the thrill of the mention before I became a co-host.  My complete Power Glove wasn't quite as good a price as you got on yours but it is one of my fav boxes.

A little before my time. I have seen some episodes though. There were so many short lived cartoons back in the early 80's

Can't say I remember "Orbots". I think even as a kid I would have had better judgement, about what to allocate my cartoon viewing time to.

It was pretty much the same around here where I live.  Our local channel 30 would play those same second- and third-tier cartoons for about half of the day, then move on to reruns of 60s and 70s stuff like I Dream Of Jeannie, The Love Boat and Gilligan's Island.

Completely understandable.  :P

And if you also take a shot every time Bil says that something isn't his jam, the mortuary won't need to use embalming fluid on your corpse. At least you'll have a frugal funeral...



Don't they, though? Although I'm a bit bummed that the small scores has disappeared from the regular CollectorCast, I totally understand why. The sheer volume of stuff we're finding must be a real slog to go through to find the big gems amongst the lesser treasures.

'Late

I had to look it up since I have the memory of a 98 year old Alzheimer's patient, but mine was KDNL transmitting from just outside of St. Louis proper, so it must've had a pretty strong damn signal to make it 2 hours south to my house.   :o  I can't find any video from the channel during that era  :-\, as it switched to being an ABC affiliate way back in 1995, switching from being a FOX affiliate since 1986, and independent before that.

Things like that really make me miss my childhood...

I was limited in Northern Canada, of not only broadcast channel availability, but also our TV's VHF dial only went up to channel 12.

I keep thinking the small scores version of the CollectorCast is the regular version and the one without is the special edition.

Zag and I were once joking about making an alternate small scores podcast, I was going to make endless movie references and he was going to be the funny one. In the end he said we couldn't because he had a bum ankle and it would take too much time away from his playing with little plastic toys, or something like that.



The laser discs my wife and I found were mentioned....Duke said something about The Ten Commandments being 17 discs long. That is a bit of an exaggeration, only 13 of those discs are the movie, the rest are special features.

Seriously though, whenever we're watching a laser disc and it gets to the point where the machine flips to the second side, I look at my wife with a grin and proudly say, with a tone of awe and happiness, "It's like we're living in the future baby"



There was also all this talk about how Techie had the NW locked down as far as collecting goes. I wondered why it was hard to find games around here, got to get up earlier than Techie I guess. Actually, that will be tough, since I think he lives a whole time zone east of me, he has a hour head start.

Saving Silverman wasn't bad but seriously a movie about Neil Diamond impersonaters?  Fog Bog is the bomb.  I loved playing that.  Would play that Atari 2600 like crazy at my Grandma's house.  You seriously never heard of it!?

When you were saying your uncle was an actor, I just assumed he was some background actor or profession extra, not an actual leading actor. I'm gonna have to watch his new show, I didn't realize he was on it from the commercials.

I watched the first episode, and it was funny. Hopefully it does well for him. I looked at his credits, and he was in Perfect Strangers! That's enough for me.

Here I come to clear up the Pokemon confusion!

The first generation in Japan actually had four releases. Red, Blue, Green, and Pikachu for yellow. For the USA the Green version was dropped so we got Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Fast forward to the Game Boy Advance and they did remakes of the first generation. This time they switched out Blue for Green, so the releases were Fire Red and Leaf Green.

That's him!  He's been a "that guy" for a while.  Lots of good smallish parts.  This is probably the biggest thing he has done so we are all rooting for it.  I  really liked the pilot.

He was a mainish character in the The Fighter, which was a pretty decent flick in my opinion. I enjoyed it.

That's because Blue had implementation differences that didn't exist in Red and Green, including some game-breaking issues that were found shortly after release. It was simpler to port Green and Red, since they shared most of the same architecture. I have no clue why the inventory system in Blue is as broken as it is, but that's one of the major reasons.

Jeanne D'arc has another name in the US, Joan of Arc.  The game is a fantasy tactical RPG loosely based version of her story. I'm only in chapter 2 of the game and highly recommend it.

There are also a couple podcast apps for android that have the podcast so you don't have to rely on rss feeds for the show, Stitcher and Pocket casts.

SoR2 occupied my Saturday afternoons for nearly a year. Certainly no need to worry. :)

I remember watching Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea and The Mysterious Cities of Gold in a block.  This, unfortunately, caused me to switch the titles of the shows in my memory until the internet came along to correct me.

If I woke up too early for them, that's when I would catch the Danger Mouse and Count Duckula block, with occasional appearances by Bananaman.

Crabby works 16 jobs and Bil is lost in Civ land most of the time. We could probably post almost anything in here.

Actually, I think Episode 26.5 is being discussed in the Not-So-Secret-Santa thread; it's gotten pretty drifty, too.

Talking about the podcast would mean confronting the fact that the last time I saw a game like Super Castlevania IV for anywhere near $4 was 10+ years ago.  That's when I bought it, heedless of the joy that others may have had in buying it.

Quite the contrary: "Red Sector Zero" is made up of several subdivisions staffed by a great bunch of working new-world digital men who have the mystic rhythms and spirit of radio in them, and have been given free will to do their utmost to help this outfit make the big money. They show their grace under pressure with a mean, mean stride, especially when the camera eye puts them in the limelight.

Whoah, hold your fire, there, my good man-- you can't just step into a Rush-pun novel all willy-nilly.  Such an undertaking would rival the Manhattan Project in scope. Before I get to it, however, I need to take my red barchetta in for servicing, where they're gonna perform a test of echo between the wheels, check for distant early warning signs of trouble, as well and fix the power windows. Fortunately, the mechanics use kid gloves rather than a caress of steel, so there's not even a ghost of a chance of accidental damage. You don't wanna roll the bones when it comes to selecting the best auto-mechanics, after all.
