Title: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: shaggy on September 03, 2014, 04:12:47 PM So I have many loose hand held games and I'm trying to find a way of storing them. I was thinking of using some sort of tackle box. I wanted to see what other people are using and if you are using a tackle box, what kind that fits the biggest of hand held games (probably UMD's being the biggest). Thanks!

I feel like with any game storage/display, something custom is probably the best way to go. if you don't have too many, something like this might be nice to display them face-out:

Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Techie413 on September 03, 2014, 07:10:40 PM I was actually storing most of my loose handheld games in a large tackle box for a while, but i realized it was too big and bulky. Going with smaller tackle trays seems to work a lot better, and they are easier to store.
Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: SirPsycho on September 03, 2014, 08:06:53 PM A lot of people use three ring binders with trading card pages.
Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Izret101 on September 03, 2014, 08:50:47 PM ^Almost positive someone put up pics of their GB collection in card binders.
It was really cool. Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: techwizard on September 03, 2014, 09:39:05 PM ok i change my answer to card binders, that sounds really cool
Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Boshamp on September 03, 2014, 10:18:27 PM I am using a wooden box I made in High school in woodworking class, I didn't make it thinking it would hold my games, but it has worked for a long time, I am just getting too many games to fit all of them in it any more. It holds 30 GB/GBC games in the bottom stacked 5 high in 6 stacks, then the top shelf holds 36 GBA games stacked in 6 rows of 6 games.
I had never thought to use card sleeves, but that will likely be the way I go in the end. That is an amazing idea. Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: slackur on September 05, 2014, 12:29:32 AM Yeah, I totally recommend card holders in 3-ring binders. I have
*goes and counts* 12 binders on the shelf holding my portable games, including GBA, GB, GBC, Lynx, Game.com, and Neo Geo Pocket. They work great, give easy access, and if you get the kind of binders with clear-sleeve outsides for labeling, you can make them look pretty cool too. If only they fit Game Gear games... Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: GamerNick on September 05, 2014, 04:21:06 AM I have thought about using the 3 Ring Binder method...for me its a room issue. I like mine in the little tote they are stored in nice and neatly, and the Game Gear games are in a cabinet all nice and snug. The 3 Ring Binder method also consists of when you take it off the shelf and tip it side ways the games fallout ;-) something to keep in mind. BUT Slack you need the binders...you have just way too many ;-)

Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Duke.Togo on September 06, 2014, 06:52:48 PM Velveeta Cheese boxes. Perfect size for GB carts. I haven't tried the others, but I would guess they would be fine as well.

They have some premium ones that will seal to help prevent that, or you could just buy some velcro. They make 3-ring binder inserts that hold Business cards in a 2 x 5 grid. I am not sure exactly how tall a GG game is when compared to the height of business cards, but those might work better since GG games are too wide for the traditional 3 x 3 trading card inserts. And I worked at a collectible cards shop for a few years, too. I have a nice stack of the card holder pages, too. Time to get busy...

Did you design and assemble each slipcover for your carts? If so, good on you. I was thinking of getting a few of those view-binders and throwing some artsy video game collage-type stuff in the outside pocket inserts. I'm thinking of using a gray binder for the GB carts, and a black one for the GBCs. You know, so they correspond with the carts' colors. Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Fokakis79 on September 12, 2014, 04:11:02 AM I use these small boxes from Ikea that look like mini file boxes
Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: russlyman on September 12, 2014, 11:53:34 AM Yeah I designed the art. Cut them out and glued them. Took about a week. Worth it in the end

I use 3DS cases for GB games and DS cases for GBA. Art is either from TheCoverProject or made myself from box scans found online if TCP doesn't have something I need. Worth it in the end Not a week for each one I hope. If I had the skill and patience myself, I'd make those large enough that a cased GB/GBC cart would fit in them. russlyman - those cardboard sleeves look GREAT and appear to take up pretty much no space. Whenever I acquire DS cases, I'll throw in a loose loose GBA game with manual, go to The Cover Project site, print out a cover for it on photo paper, and put it in the outer case pocket. So what kind of tinkering do you have to do to get a Game Boy cart to fit in a 3DS case? Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: russlyman on September 12, 2014, 08:28:05 PM The sheet I have in photoshop has 3 games on it. Usually takes 20mins or so to make the art and shrink it down than print and glue maybe 10mins. Yeah not to bad. It's tedious. I also do NES sleeves

If I could I would have done this for all my loose games by now.
Title: Re: Hand Held Game Storage Post by: Barracuda on September 13, 2014, 01:48:05 PM For Gameboy games I used cassette tape boxes. I cut out the plastic that holds the cassette in and printed out custom covers for them. This worked for me since I liked to see everything all neat and tidy on a shelf.

I recall you posting those on the site some time back. Maybe you could talk to The Cover Project about getting a cassette-case-sized covers page going... ;) BTW I have a preference for the 1.5-inch width binders, though I was gravitating towards the 2-inchers for a moment or two. Does anyone else here stick with a particular binder width, or does it vary? I did one for GB, one for GBC, and a third for my international GBs & GBCs. The 1.5-inchers hold up to 5 full pages of carts comfortably. Anyhting beyond that, the binder looks overstuffed. But now I'm thinking about adding card pages that can hold my loose manuals. I know they used to make 3-card and 4-card pages back in the day, and those are the most likely ones to work. Now I wonder if I should include them with the carts, or put them in a binder all their own... UPDATE: I found out they still have the 4-pocket pages, now i just gotta check the dimensions to make sure the manuals will fit. I also found business card holder pages that might be good for GBA carts... |
