He had tweeted something earlier this week or last week that the original company wasn't just a name but a group of people who actually gave a shit and hoped that the new company could live up to the old. I wonder too about the value of using a defunct companies name on a new product. It seems likely the name Sierra was acquired along with the rights to games, and the game's names. If you're buying it all as a package deal, why not use the companies name on your new games? On the other hand, making a point of purchasing the name by itself would seem kinda silly. Companies buy Intellectual Properties all the time just for the sake of not having to continue competing with them. I have seen it happen in the Automobile industry and in the Internet industry.

I seem to remember Earthsiege being one of those (as well as the countless scrapbook and cooking software programs that my wife used to get).
