Title: short games
Post by: techwizard on March 22, 2014, 07:59:32 PM
i've been thinking, especially after playing quite a few relatively long games recently, that i'd really like to know what games i own that are really short (say under 5 hours, or maybe under 10 at most). specifically i'm looking at N64 right now and can only think of Pokemon Snap off the top of my head (i think that was about 2-4 hours for 100%). i'd like to compile a list of short games and try beating as many as i can, does anyone know of any other good choices like that for N64?

There are some good racers and fighters that shouldnt take long to beat. Beetle Adventure Racing, 1080 Snowboarding, Cruisin anything, Rush, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat (if I remember correctly Sub-Zero Mythologies is pretty short too), Clay Fighter.

And Iggy's Wrecking Balls. The Namco game, Asteroids and Star Soldier I would assume arent too long either

Resident Evil 2 and Nightmare Creatures should be in the 8 hour range. I can't imagine Vigilante 8 or Carmageddon being super long either. And I hear you can speed run Ocarina of Time in around 20 minutes ;)

good suggestions! i know i can also beat super mario 64 in about 3 hours myself, but i was thinking more of first times with games than a speed run ;)

some of those i guess it depends on what i would consider "beaten", because i know some don't really have a set ending but i guess in terms of the racing games it could be to unlock all the tracks and get 1st place once on each.

I love playing through Snap in a single playthrough; I usually do that at least once a year.

Pokémon Puzzle League can be "beaten" very quickly, except for the final level on the hardest difficulty.

I remember Yoshi's Story being a very short game as a child.

Star Fox 64 is also beatable in under an hour, but I'm certain you've played it before.

Wave Race is also a pretty quick completion if memory serves.

i've beaten Star Fox 64, Yoshi's Story (though not in years, would be worth replaying), and Snap. i haven't played much of wave race or puzzle league though so those might be worth a shot.

A little late to the party with suggestions, but if you like the concept of episodic game those are really short. I'd recommend Kentucky Route Zero or The Wolf Among Us.

I meant you didn't read the original post. He is just looking for N64 games specifically. Or did I miss the N64 Wolf Amoung Us port?

Tetrisphere may not be that short in total if you played all the modes, but if nothing else it's easy to pick up and put down when you like.

thanks for the suggestions guys! still been plugging away at iggy's reckin' balls now and then, it's really difficult (to win anyway) so i usually can't handle more than a single cup in a sitting. taking longer than i expected but i have 10/11 worlds unlocked

You never heard of the port, Crabby? It's spans something like 1200 cartridges and requires 87 memory cards.

I actually forgot that the thread was about short N64 games, but techwizard is a big PC guy so my suggestions are still valid.

I think he meant politically correct suggestions. Like "Mail carrier" instead of "Paperboy." Please stay. :(

finished Iggy's Wreckin' Balls on medium difficulty! not 100%, apparently you need to beat it on all difficulties for that. the game was really unique and had a lot of potential, but for a racing game the pace came to a complete halt on way too many tracks and the difficulty was extremely high to the point of causing controller throwing frustration. i'm glad to say i beat it because this is one i rented occasionally as a kid, but i don't think i would recommend it to most people.

Yeah short games are good to play because if you have not enough time then short games will help you to relax you a bit.
