Title: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Odonadon on March 25, 2005, 10:00:38 PM http://psp.ign.com/articles/599/599156p1.html
Pretty crappy, according to this. So far the PSP is selling like....um.....well....barely at all. We'll see for sure when the official numbers come in, but so far it ain't looking good. OD Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Tynstar on March 25, 2005, 10:07:04 PM I hope it stays that way. If the numbers are correct that is.

Post by: Antimind on March 26, 2005, 01:23:02 AM I picked mine up but I didn't even open it yet. Actually I might be trading it for NES games.
I was talkin to the manager at GameStop, asked him if he got swamped cause the joint was empty when I was there. He said he had to open at 8am and the folks that did come in didn't come for a PSP. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Arrrhalomynn on March 26, 2005, 02:06:25 AM Odd, I read somewhere else it did pretty good.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: CatchFiveBats on March 26, 2005, 05:53:47 AM I heard there were a crapload of problems with the PSP.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Tynstar on March 26, 2005, 06:35:48 AM Quote awe...did you even try it....its an amazing system The Dreamcast was an amazing system and that duidnt sell well. I just don't like Sony. I wonder if it is going to break all the time like the PS2 did. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Tynstar on March 26, 2005, 10:05:38 AM I was just at Target and a guy working there said they had gotten a letter from Sony saying how fast they would sell. said you should sell out within hours.
Well out of the 50 they got 3sold on the first day and a total of 6 since the launch.   I think that is great news and hope it is the same story all over. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Arrrhalomynn on March 26, 2005, 11:05:44 AM What do you have against the PSP? You're no Nintendo fanboy, so that can't be it.

Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 26, 2005, 12:01:58 PM Two friends of mine work in retail here in Cincinnati. One works at Media Play, and they got 60 in at their store. Seven sold the entire launch day, and none the day after. None. Remember that this is spring break, so LOTS of people are out of school, college, work, etc. The other friend works at Best Buy, and if I remember right he said they got 90 in at his store. From opening time until the time he left (around 3 pm) on launch day, he said about fifteen sold. If that's not a horrible launch, I don't know what is.
As The Evil Leon pointed out, take note of the figures that will surely come out next week. They'll use the word "shipped" instead of "sold" along with a really big number.... which of course means nothing. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Tynstar on March 26, 2005, 02:01:00 PM @Arr Anthony was righ Becuase the PS2 breaks all the time.
Plus most of Sony's stuff is over priced just beacuse it says "Sony" on it. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: TraderJake on March 26, 2005, 09:10:58 PM Yeah I'm the friend the Reverend was refering to as working at Best Buy (well I did until today at 3:30, yay for coop!). We opened at 8:01for the special PSP only event. We were expecting huge lines to be comparable to Black Friday, but we opened to only three people waiting for the PSPs, we had a total of five people come in before 10 looking for PSPs, and we had a bunch of other people come in and get some other forms of media and also some appliance accessories. I believe by the time I had left at 3:30 on launch day we had sold only 14 PSPs, and I had a lot of peeps complain on how it didn't actually play PS2 games. Awwww....
Not surprisingly, pretty much everyone who bought a PSP went out of the store with the replacement plan and a hard case. That just shows how much confidence there really is in Sony products, and how fragile the PSP is viewed as. That is not good for the PSP to be viewed that way, and there really are a lot of things that can be broken on that thing. But, after I had my hands on the PSP for a minute I must say that it is extremely sexy, and the LCD screen is HUGE. The buttons also are not sunk into the handheld as was orignally seen in PSP mockups. Did I mention the HUGE screen? If the PSP didn't cost $250, and the games didn't cost between 40 and 50 dollars then I would consider getting it. But I won't, and I am sure that others have the same sentiments that I have. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Izret101 on March 30, 2005, 11:30:30 AM I have 1 friend selling his DS and 3 games to buy a PSP. I am going to try and get $150 by the end of april to purchase it.
I have another friend who was insulting PSP when DS first came out(and he bought it) and he is now going to buy a PSP tonight or tomorrow. He just turned around and insulted DS today and said it is a piece of crap next to PSP. He just went on to say it in alot more ways. Of the 4 DS owners i go to school with 1 is going to sell his and 2 others are buying a PSP(one being the DS insulter) the last one of them the DS was her first console. Maybe PSP is going to have a snowball effect. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: CatchFiveBats on March 30, 2005, 12:15:35 PM I still think DS is wayyy better than PSP.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Antimind on March 31, 2005, 02:48:34 AM I still think the DS is better than the PSP and I haven't even opened mine yet! That's exactly why too. Cause I couldn't wait to get home and play my DS. I've had my PSP for a week now and it's still sealed, laying on the floor in the GameStop bag.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Izret101 on March 31, 2005, 03:50:51 PM Rather than start a new thread.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/03/25/news_6121092.html This is probably old news too as i seem to be good at hearing about things long after they are in the news. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 31, 2005, 04:01:26 PM Well that was only posted a few days ago. I was just reading a similar article on IGN earlier today. I dunno if that one talks about Nintendo or not, but the same thing has been happening with DS's (obviously - they too are LCD's). It kinda surprises me that neither Nintendo nor Sony came up with a plan on how to deal with the issue before the systems shipped.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Odonadon on March 31, 2005, 08:16:54 PM I was at Best Buy on Saturday, and witness the most interesting thing:
Right when you walk in the door is a big tented area showcasing the PSP. It was empty. Barren. Lifeless. I didn't really think much about it. I went in the store, bought my DVD-Rs, and on my way out I noticed a Nintendo DS table with about 10 people standing around watching 2 DS's being played saying how awesome it was. I giggled to myself, and proceeded towards the exit door and noticed the PSP tent, once again, completely empty. I think that speaks VOLUMES about the PSP's future. It's too much gimmick and Sony proprietary crap for it's own good. Why would you get a PSP when you can get a DS and like 8 games for the same price? And honestly, to the naked eye, the graphics are pretty much indistinguishable between the two systems. The DS already has a library of... god knows how many games if you take into account the DS's backward compatability. The PSP? You can already play all it's games on the PS2 - for less than half the price on a big screen TV with surround sound! So far the PSP is failing worse than I thought it would. I kinda thought it would sell like crazy the first few months, then die off afterwards. So far it hasn't even sold! Now that's funny. I think I'll pick my PSP up in a year when Sony discontinues it and it sells for $150. OD Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Sureshot on March 31, 2005, 08:57:04 PM I had no intention of trying a PSP, but since my PC isn't over here yet and I'm living in a hotel, there's really not that much to do. One of the other guys staying has a PSP though, and I have to say that Wario Ware: Touched has had more than a few outings (especially the Retro mode might I add).
They are great little consoles, innovative and fun, but god the screen now looks like someone has given it a going over with some kind of sandpaper. I believe there are some screen protector things, but I wouldn't really want to spend so much on a handheld to have to buy screen protectors every 5 minutes. I saw a funny advert in a Dutch magazine over here, with 4 guys sitting around a table. 3 were playing on PSPs and the other had a DS. On the DS guy's screen, as if trying to communicate with the others, it read 'anybody up for a game of pokemon? guys? hello? why is everybody ignoring me!?'. Can't find an image online but I thought it was a great advert :D Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on April 01, 2005, 02:36:56 PM I do seriously wonder how the DS screen will hold up over time, because I think that could have a lot to do with PSP sales. If they all start to crap out at the same time, the PSP is suddenly going to look very attractive to a lot of people.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Odonadon on April 01, 2005, 07:54:38 PM Nonsense. People have been using touch screen systems since, well, the Newton. You ever hear anyone complain that the screen got so bad it was unusable? Treat it right, get a pack of 15 screen protectors for $3, replace them a few times a year, and you won't see a scratch.
The PSP Screen? Besides the "normal" dead pixels, you'll see scratches galore if you aren't gentle with it. At least the DS folds to protect the screen. Gotta protect your investments people. OD Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Izret101 on April 01, 2005, 09:40:20 PM To prove a point my friend refused to buy a stylus and uses pencils pens and pockeet knives on his touch screen. It is still immaculate.
Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: Izret101 on April 08, 2005, 08:00:43 PM I was watching my friends play earlier and I have to say that really is one beautiful piece of machinery.
I want one bad. I wanted DS when i saw that but not nearly as much as i want to get a PSP. I am going to try and get one for my B-Day. Unfortunately i think driving school the week before is going to make that much less likely. I will start spending much less at school lunch to save money and add that to what i will be getting so i can hopefully get it soon. Title: Re: PSP Launch Day - how'd it do? Post by: evilwatermelon29 on April 14, 2005, 07:27:28 AM I was wondering too...can't be too badly cosidering the fact that I can't find a damn one anywhere.
