Cypher is a "Cyberpunk" text adventure. For those who are not sure what Cyberpunk is, imagine movies like Blade Runner, Johnny Mnemonic, or Total Recall just to name a few. Cypher is a new kind of text adventure that could revive the genre for todays generation/youth.

For most of you, the kind of text adventure games you may remember are titles such as Pyramid 2000, Haunted House, or Zork to name a few. They looked like this. Image Link (http://levgrossman.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/zork.jpg) // Cypher on the other hand has taken a different approach. They have introduced mult-media into the mix to increase the level of immersion to make it feel like a whole new game genre. I think that is key to reviving these kind of games and to make them popular again.

Now what do I mean by multi-media. The game has music, sounds, images all to help the player have a more fuller and enjoyable experience, considering all the 3D games we play today. Some examples include music, images of the items you have collected, strobe lights when you are in a nightclub, or the sound or rain, animals and water droplets collecting on your screen when outside in the market district. Its a whole new kind of feel. Here are some images of the game itself. The game also comes with digital files called "feelies" to increase the depth of the experience. These are items that are related to the game and its story itself. PDFs that contain instructions, the medical records of your character, copies of your immigration papers, a flyer for the local hotel, etc...

You can watch the trailer here. YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l7mUngNnbA)

This game is great and I recommend you pick it up. It's a wonderful experience and I look forward to more text adventures like this.

The game is built for Windows and Mac. It is DRM free Indie game. You can find more about the game and buy a copy from the devs website located here: Link (http://www.cabrerabrothers.com/)

They offer a Standard, Collectors, and Deluxe package all with different content and bonuses thrown in. Enjoy!

So it is essentially a visual novel?

In some aspects yes, but you don't really have "frames" nor do you get to really see what other characters look like, so yeah kind of but not completely. Good observation, I didn't think of it that way.

Used to love playing these thing on the C64 as a kid. Have never finished one though.
Had to check the trailer out because... well, how do you make a trailer of a text adventure?

This one is not super hard just takes trial and error, should give it a shot. Have yet to get stuck to a point I needed outside help.

I used to play the Infocom games to death. Not sure if I would be up for one these days, but it is good to see that Interactive Fiction lives on.
