Duke and I didn't realize until after the recording that we didn't mention Tempo.  We'll have a Tempocast at some point in the future.

Hey now, folks. Just adding a few thoughts to my small scores segment:

I'm still working on the Bil-o-Meter. I have a few more ratings in the works. I'll make a blog about it as soon as I have everything together.

I bought the Zig-Zag 360 tower from my best friend for $10, and he bought it at a nearby yard sale for $3. I've yet to set it up, though. I saw one gentleman's tower setup where he had his 360 on the lower shelf, and his PS3 on the upper one where the 360 games would go, and I'm considering doin' the same thing. Though it's not advised, especially seeing as how I live in earthquake country. BTW I didn't know it was called a "zig-zag" until I got it home. It was a happy coincidence none the less...

On the whole Morrowind thing: I can't speak for others, by in my case, the Game of the Year release for XBox has good resale value. So whenever I find a copy that's fairly complete, in really good condition, and they're asking no more than $5 for it-- which is surprisingly often-- I do the ol' buy-and-flip. I've discovered so many of them over the past couple years, I finally decided to keep one for myself. The dang thing's almost as common as KotOR II 'round my neck of the woods.

And my thrifting prowess is mainly due to having tons of locations in the south S.F. Bay area, and knowing when most of the locations start putting out the "new" stock. I go to all but one of  the 18 stores in the Goodwill of Silicon Valley chain (http://www.goodwillsv.org/shop) at least twice a year, and to six of them at least twice a week. There's also one  near my workplace I visit every day during my lunch break. Of course, my Goodwill runs will be going up dramatically during the holiday shopping rush when the all-but-brand-new Target-salvage goods start comin' in. I'm sure there'll be a ton of XBox One and PS4 launch titles.

I also live within ten minutes of two Savers, with a third Savers under construction in Santa Clara, which is more or less on the route between my house and my workplace. There are also four Salvation Armies, but the one nearest me is the only one really worth going to. And don't get me started on my beloved Rasputin's. (http://www.rasputinmusic.com) There are a few independent thrifts, too, but they rarely ever have any gaming stuff. And the few pawn shops there are are crushingly disappointing when it comes to overall stock, let alone electronic stuff.

On the whole ICP/Juggalo deal: Whattaya mean, you're too old to dig ICP, Duke?! I'm only a year younger than you, and I kinda dig 'em. 'Course, I got on board relatively early in the late 90s after their first guest shot on Howard Stern  got me curious. BTW you totally have to check out the JCW episode featuring King Kong Bundy, featuring some of the most colorful color commentary ever.

Another can't-miss JCW match: ICP versus Kid C0ck and Feminem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJvB5lFRess

Oh, and another thing:

You're absolutely right that they don't make ultraviolent sci-fi like Paul Verhoeven did back in the day, especially the original RoboCop. I'd buy it for much more than a dollar 'cuz it freakin' RULES! And if you think otherwise, I have two words for you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvi8Ehdt5XI

And speaking of Verhoeven: if you ever happen upon a copy, you gotta watch the VIP edition of Showgirls with the David Schmader commentary track on. You're in for some really funny shiznit as Schmader does a good MST3K/RiffTrax-style breakdown of the movie as it plays. If you're fortunate to find a complete box set, you'll also have all the components to play the pin-the-pasties-on-Elizabeth-Berkley drinking game...

It sounds like you happen to live in the dead center of thrifting heaven, Zag. I think I would flip over one decent one anywhere nearby. I wonder why yours don't do the online auction stuff like mine do?

I knew it wouldn't take too long for the Total Recall girl to show up. Here is my question to everyone. Third one added, or all three prosthetic?

I can't say anything much about ICP. I have really never listened to any of their music. I have a younger friend that was really into them way back. I do listen to an odd mix of music, so who knows, maybe it would fit in?

I've never watched Showgirls, either. That is a pretty fancy boxed set to be sure, but I didn't hear good things about it. That and they cast the wrong Saved by the Bell girl.

Totally digging all the Sega love on the episode.  We seriously need more of this, guys.  Some more Famicom as well, if you please.  Oh, and just for fun (one of my favorite covers of the first Doom level):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQs48dvebck

UPDATE: I just finished.  At first I though this would be a rambling affair, but actually it was extremely focused and even appeared to be well researched!  Sucks that Crab couldn't be here, but this was one of my favorite episodes.  Move Sega love, please!

I also can't wait to hear more about Bil's adventures in fatherhood (when the baby arrives, that is).  I watched more videos on my phone (ALL the Star Trek shows on Netflix + That 70's Show + LP videos on Youtube) and played more portable systems when my kids were little.  Extra fully-charged batteries plus close proximity to a wall charger were extremely important during night/day feedings (and when you should be trying to sneak in 45 minutes of sleep between feedings).

Getting your podcast (and every other) on my Android is as simple or as complicated as I want it to be.  I use an app called Podcast Addict (there are a ton more just like it) and use their search engine.  If that doesn't work I can either go directly to the website that lists the RSS feed (very common) and click on it (which adds the feed to Podcast Addict) or handtype the URL into the box.  Pretty simple.  Plus there is an awesome widget that I can place that gives me basic controls.

About 3 hours into the episode.
I have to bring up two things Bil said so far. First off, I find it weird you guys have a maple syrup festival in September, because the sap generally flows best in the early Spring. You should bring it up at the next town meeting, they'd probably have a better turn out if they had their festival 6 months earlier.

Also, I found it hilarious when Bil said something like "Me and Duke are having a baby", but neither of you caught it. I think you needed a pause or something in the way you said it so it didn't sound like the two of you were having a baby together.

And just for the record, I was collecting for the mighty 32x before it was cool.

Great show, you guys can make even the 32x seem interesting. The Game Sack guys did a video on the 32x a few weeks back where they covered every game. Makes a nice companion piece to this show if anyone is interested:

I don't know if they do eBay, but they do sell stuff on Amazon Marketplace.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&me=A2E0CHYEXDW1VC

I just found this out when I ordered my Shadow the Hedgehog strat from them. Oh sure, I go through half of their stores in a week and I can't get it there, but they can see fit to offer it online! I only wish there was a way I could pick it up, instead of them shipping it to me. Would save me a bit on postage, that's for sure.

Quote
knew it wouldn't take too long for the Total Recall girl to show up. Here is my question to everyone. Third one added, or all three prosthetic?

All I know is, the only other thing I saw her in was the episode of NextGen that introduced the Borg. Her character was notable for spilling hot cocoa on Picard.

Just judging from the pic above: most likely all three were prosthetic. Not much IRL motorboating potential there...

I tell ya, though, you two and I seem to share a real appreciation for Paul Verhoeven's most notable sci-fi works. I think he cuts some of the best commentary tracks for his movies. He's like most movie directors; he takes his work far more seriously than he should. His brashness also has a weird charm, so unlike Quentin Tarantino, who is so smarmy that I'll need to really resist the urge to punch him in the face, should i ever meet him in person.

I also dig Verhoeven's lively conversational style, which keeps me hanging on every word he says. He also possesses an earnestness and sincerity that reminds me of Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ed Wood. Which would explain why Verhoeven seemed completely puzzled at the legendary failure of Showgirls. IIRC, he went to that year's Razzies in person to pick up all the "awards" it won.

Oh, and Bil: all I saw of the new Total Recall were a couple trailers, and I was left with the impression that they were taking things far too seriously in that film... which was the diametric opposite of the original.

I got the same serious-business from the trailer for the upcoming RoboCop remake. The original was over-the-top and had lots of satirical elements, while this one appears to be played far more straitlaced. It doesn't help that every attempt  to continue the RoboCop mythos, be it sequels, TV and cartoon series, or that silly cheapie direct-to-video miniseries, have all fallen well short of matching the original film. I've also heard rumors that the remake is aiming for a PG-13 rating, which is yet another example of missing the point. And don't get me started on the title character's look, which is basically what KITT from Knight Rider would look like if he were a Cylon. And finally: his right hand is his actual, flesh-and-bone hand! Yeah, I think I'll wait 'till it hits the RedBox... most likely a month after it releases in theaters.

Yeah, we could go on half a day about Mr. Verhoeven and his works, you two and I...

...but then it'd eventually shift to you two talking about your kids-- both present and upcoming-- which is when I'd have to bail for fear of catching your wuss-cooties.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/6fsxY5MgEmg?start=2376&end=2380

I dig most of their stuff from the early to mid 90s as well as their Juggalo Championshit Wrestling presentations. And Raze has shown me a few videos of their more recent work that I found entertaining. It's lowbrow and low-rent, but oddly compelling to me. I also find their talk about their f'ed up personal lives interesting, like the time they got beat up so badly that they messed their pants.

Quote
I've never watched Showgirls, either. That is a pretty fancy boxed set to be sure, but I didn't hear good things about it. That and they cast the wrong Saved by the Bell girl.

I've watched Showgirls by itself, and it was the diametric opposite of sexy to me. Quite the contrary, it really skeeved me out. But after watching it while listening to the Schmader commentary track, I gained a new appreciation for this guilty pleasure as he added context and oddball trivia facts to the deal as he goofed on the whole deal.

And funny you should mention the miscasting of Elizabeth Berkley, 'cuz that's just part of the appeal according to Schmader, who has stated that ”Showgirls triumphs in that every single person involved in the making of the film is making the worst possible decision at every possible time.”

Okay, that's quite enough of Verhoeven-fest 2013--

Oh my God! We should totally actually do that! Yeah, an annual convention/film festival centered on the works of Paul Verhoeven! Kickstarter, here I come! Anybody else want in on this?!

It's awesome to hear how well Crabby's store seems to be doing. It can be hard to get a small business off the ground (or well, I'm assuming it's hard), and he sounds like he's off to a great start.

I'm pretty sure if I had a 32X where my Genesis is, I wouldn't actually be able to fit any games on it. Can't say I've ever bee interested in getting one, but I'll admit that I've been tempted thanks "36 Great Holes," which has the best title for a golf game ever.

I finally broke down and bought one just so I could play my copies of Zaxxon Motherbase 2000 and Star Wars Arcade. Though mostly for Zaxxon Motherbase 2000. Because Zaxxon. No other reason needed.

Hey guys just finished listening to episode 18. Good stuff. Enjoyed Crabbies interview at the end too. I enjoyed all the Sega backstory stuff. I remember getting my 32x at a Pawn Shop near my house with Doom and Star Wars. Had a good time with it. I never did get a Saturn though.

Try the one on the Wii and see if it makes more sense. I found that one easier to control and then went back to the Saturn one and did significantly better.

Just wanted to let Bil know. I just finished listening to this episode on the now REALLY old Zune software.

It is garbage. I love when i miss something you guys say and i have to try and rewind 2 seconds and can only move in 2_ minute increments one way or the other.

That being said i have never used iTunes and have heard about as many complaints as i have accolades. I have no desire to try it either.

As a Sega kid in the 90s (Game Gear -> Genesis -> Sega CD -> 32X FTW), really enjoyed this one. I never knew Knuckles didn't work well with Gen 2 models. I have to test mine again now because I definitely remember at least trying it back in the day. Never recall any freezing.

GOLF Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples is one of the most absurd sports (or any game) titles ever.

NBA Jam TE 32X came in a clamshell, which I always thought was cool.

RBI Baseball 95 is horrible (certainly not worth discussing)

A recent very nice complete copy of World Series Baseball for the 32x went for $125 with heaving bidding recently. They so seldomly show up as auctions too. Bil was right on there. There was another nice one from back in June that was around $75. Market is still strong on that one.

My most played 32X games:

Virtua Racing
Virtua Fighter

Just made it through the episode.  Good one!  I went from the NES to the Genesis as a kid so this one was exciting to listen to.
I never had a 32x.  I picked on up a few years ago and it only came with Doom 32x.  I'm inspired to pick up some more titles now.
