Title: Xbox One Discussion Thread, No Haters Allowed
Post by: wildbil52 on August 08, 2013, 03:49:10 PM
Now that some of the hater dust has settled and most reasonable people are able to step back and see the forest for the trees, I thought it might be nice to have a discussion thread for the people who are looking forward to the Xbox One.

If you aren't excited or want to trash the system, there are plenty of other threads where that is happening including one here on RFGen http://www.rfgeneration.com/forum/index.php?topic=11913.0

I'll kick the thread off by saying that, much like the launch of the original Xbox, there aren't any Day One titles that I am particularly excited about.  Most of my early purchases may end up being downloadable titles.  I've read somewhere that Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered One title so far.

What are the launch (or launch window) games that people who have one pre-ordered are interested in or curious about?

The only launch game I want to try is Killer Instinct. I'm very skeptical, but willing to give it a try at the least. Outside of that curiousity I'm very underwhelmed with the line up. Same goes for Sony too though.

Madden NFL 25 - Free (Guess why?)

As a casual football fan who is uncharacteristically excited for football this year, I'd love to give Madden 25 a try.  I didn't think it was coming out til at least December.

Was glad to see that they made the right decision to throw in the headset, and also make an adaptor for the older style.

The game I am most interested in is Titanfall. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with Just Dance for my oldest though.

Ryse: Son of Rome - Looks nice and violent.

The only XBone exclusive I'd be looking forward to is D4. Swery rules.

Speaking of exclusives, here is the list of confirmed exclusive games for the One.  This list was published in June by Eurogamer.  Also, it's been revealed since then that some of these may be timed exclusives that may show up on other platforms after a set amount of time (like Below).

Below
Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
D4
Fantasia: Music Evolved
Forza Motorsport 5
Halo
Killer Instinct
Kinect Sports Rivals
LocoCycle
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
Quantum Break
Ryse: Son of Rome
Sunset Overdrive
Zoo Tycoon

I'm optimistic about a handful of these.  In particular: Below, Halo, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, and maybe Zoo Tycoon.  Have to see more info before I commit.

Haven't played AC3 but I have friends begging me to so if I like it, I may wind up with Black Flag as well.

I'll probably try Sunset Overdrive. Not too optimistic about that one either though.

Looking at Sunset Overdrive myself as well. Loved the art style.

I want to see how Quantum Break turns out. Remedy is a pretty creative team and with their goal to create a live action show to tie in with the game is ambitious.

Actually, I just remembered this game is going to be Kinect only so I guess I will never need an XBone after all, because, well f*ck that. Just kidding, no haters here  8)

Crimson Dragon: Side Story is fantastic on Windows Phone, but the devs broke some 1st party policies in a patch and completely screwed hardcore gamers. The update forced me to spend $25 to unlock all the skills and earn my final achievement when it was possible to do without spending money before the update. I sent numerous messages to the developers with no response about it, and Microsoft refused to acknowledge it. I wasn't about to drop a game I spent 6 months playing because of an update. :'(

Controller looks great.  Can't wait to hold one.  I know it's not a big deal for you non-PC guys, but the fact the plugging in the usb cable makes it a wired controller that will be PC compatible when the drivers come out early next year is a very big deal for me.  I'm also super excited about trigger feedback.

USB cable thing existed for the original Xbox 360 Controller. Triggers will be fun though.

No it didn't, the play and charge kit was for power only, not data.  The PC would go as far as recognizing that you plugged a play and charge kit cable into it, but without the wireless receiver, you couldn't use it as a controller for PC games.

Mine worked - the wireless receiver wasn't needed. Then again, I don't know if that was because I doctored with the drivers at all. ;)

I dug through tons of forums a while back to find a way to get it to work and I never found anyone who figured it out.  If you did, then you are a mad scientist (which isn't out of the question).  Some folks said that the play and charge connector had 7 pins, the same as the number of connections on the wired controller so there's no reason it shouldn't work.  MS has always maintained that the play and charge only provides power.  Some have said that if you disabled/removed the rf board in the controller, it might work, but that's not a reasonable thing to ask your average customer to do.

Xbox One controller-plug any micro USB cable from the controller to the PC and it works-sounds much more realistic to me.

Lol, our King's family is actually French (speaking), so they probably don't give a damn about about Dutch localizations, ha! Dutch vs French is the big cause of tension in Belgium, and why it'll probably, eventually split up.

Is the One even going to launch in Japan considering the appalling sales there since 2002?

I agree, but you already knew that.  I know that whenever they show all the stuff it does other than games, most people scream I DON'T CARE JUST SHOW ME GAMES! but I do care about the other stuff and I'm excited to see which directions the system and it's software go in.

I'm a "SHOW ME THE GAMES" kind of guy. I can deal with big problems in other areas as long as the games are fun.

I couldn't play on the original Xbox until I got an Eclipse controller, which was essentially the same size as the S controller.  Too much joint fatigue on the thumbs. Controllers make a HUGE difference, especially when I handle them constantly at work. I know which one I greatly prefer, but I won't tell.  :fu2:

If a controller isn't particularly comfortable for me I just hold it differently (sometimes quite oddly). Sometimes it feels off at first, but I eventually get used to it and don't have a problem in the long run.

I find it interesting how fast MS turned it around. I have to give mad props. They have nothing I am interested in .. For now and an outrageous price...for now. In time that's fixed. Prices come down and libraries build. It took Nintendo an entire new console with a remote gimmick to gain sales again. It took Sony PS3 about 2 years to pick up from a disastrous E3 bad PR and bad marketing. MS did it before launch. I wish SEGA could have fixed itself :(

It really does seem like there is a lot of listening going on right now.  MS just announced the Independent Developers@Xbox program for devs who want to self publish.  They had previously said that self publishing was not an option.  Also, Crytek has tweaked the combat system in Ryse after the initial reactions of many who felt that the combat system was a little too QTE...y.

I just noticed that Elder Scrolls Online is coming to Xbox One (and to PS4 as well I'm sure). For some reason I thought that this would have just been a PC game. Glad to see it listed.

Yup, coming to everything (Xbox One, PS4, PC and Mac).  Hoping to get into the beta but if not, I'll have to decide what to get it on in the spring.

I'm really interested in the One. The controller looks to be very comfortable and I love the Forza series to the point that I don't think I could go a generation without it. I'm also looking forward to the TV integration and I like using the Kinect to control video playback on my current 360 so I'm ok with that being included.. Overall, I am very excited for the system, but I think I'm going to wait for the first price drop before I jump on.
