Title: RF Gems
Post by: RetroRage on July 07, 2013, 03:13:53 PM
I know bragging about owning something rare isn't a big thing here at rfgen, but this is the thread to do it.  So what gems do you got?   What's your number 1?  Did you get it cheap or find it in the wild?  I love a good story and I want to be jealous.

Here are my two.

TMNT Tournament Fighters CIB

Last year i bought about 100 NES games for $150 from a friend of mine who was having a baby.  40 of those games were CIB, including this one.  So when you average out the cost per game, i bought it basically for $1.50.

Kirby's Dreamland 3 CIB

I snagged this at Value Village for $6.  At first it was just the cart, but as i was walking through the production room in the back of the store i saw the box sitting in a trash can and they just gave me the box for free.

Now its your turns.  Stadium Events, Little Samson, Magical Chase, Chuck Wagon, Cheetahmen 2, or even if its just Megan Man 2....what's the prized possession in your collection?

What's that you say? ...nah. I already got my once-a-year stab in.

EDIT: I will, however, post it because the thread needs a bump. I have a few others I need to take pics of, however, as my old camera looks like crap compared to my new one.

Too many to name pics will come later but let's do top ten to start:

1. Ducktales 2 had the manual and cart and got a box cheap
2. All of those nes games I got in February 90% of them cib
3. Panic restaurant 100% cib mint for $150...
4. Bomberman II 100% cib mint for $100 I believe
5. Rescue Rangers 2 100% cib - Free
6. Menace Beach cib - $150
7. Earthbound guide and cart for $250
8. Chrono Trigger 100% cib - Free
9.  Arc the lad, lunar 1, lunar 2 - all complete editons 100% cib mint all under $20 a piece over the years
10. Suikoden 2 mint condition $100

Guess that's a good start

I'd have to say the things I'm most proud of in my collection are...

Sealed Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (players choice, but still...)
Minty boxed AV Famicom and Famicom systems.
Few other odds and ends, but those stick out in my mind the most.

My top two rarities would have to be:

I picked up a Pioneer LaserActive for $15 from the flea market.  It came with the Sega unit, the Pioneer Sega controller, and a couple of other things.

I also picked up a Daewoo Zemmix at the flea market for $20 I believe.  It came with a joystick and a RAM cart, but no games so I haven't been able to test it.  I don't have a picture of it, but it looks like this:

I wonder if there are any smoke room wagers about what I'm going to post? For you newer people here, I'm the Suikoden guy. If you find yourself with any questions or what good prices are for this series then just send me a PM. My avatar basically proves this.

The soundtrack here is the latest addition. Only seemed to be shipped with Amazon orders.

Big Box CIB Planescape: Torment. I paid $15 for it at my local store when it was around $40-60 online.

That's a lot of Suikoden.

And there's more I have to touch, like official figures and statues, the rest of the manga, posters (some stupidly rare and expensive, all Japan only), 2 more imports, guides for Suikoden 2 and 5, booster cards for Card Stories, maybe some more signs if they exist (I actually posted my collection on Suikosource and got a bunch of PMs about my Suikoden 5 sign. Apparently it was the first one ever posted there, but I'm not sure.)

I eventually want to get my signs connected to a chain with small hooks and hang them from the ceiling above a couple shelves or something like that, so my game room will have extra decor beyond posters on the wall.

These are 3 of my favorite NES rares that I own.  The Chip N Dales' Rescue Rangers 2 got to me for free, when my father decided that he didn't want to play video games anymore, and sent me a box of stuff that also included a top-loader NES, a regular SNES, and CIB copies of Zelda 2: The Adventure Of Link, Illusion Of Gaia, Ultima VI: The False Prophet, Drakkhen, and Lufia And The Fortress Of Doom.

The Dragon Warrior IV I pieced together from two different places: The cart was found at what is now GameStop (Babbage's at the time) for about $20, while I found the box, manual and maps years later in an eBay auction for about $25.  It's still one of my favorite RPG's I've ever played.

And the TMNT Tournament Fighters came from my sister, who found it at a garage sale she visited on a whim after taking my niece to a doctor's appointment a while back.  She called me while she was there, asking me if she wanted me to have her pick me up some games.  After the obligatory, "Is the Pope Catholic?," and telling her to look strictly at NES games, she starts listing off what she's looking at.  Castlevania, :leo: TMNT, TMNT 2: The Arcade Game, TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project, TMNT Tournament Fighters...

"Wait, did you just say TMNT Tournament Fighters?"

"Yeah, I did."

"For the NES?"

"Yeah, that's what I'm looking at for you, right?"

"Positive you're looking at TMNT Tournament Fighters for the Nintendo Entertainment System?"

"YES!"

"You pick that s.o.b. up RIGHT NOW.  I don't care if you can only get one game, 'cause it better be THAT ONE."

Well, it wasn't the only one she grabbed, because she ended up paying only $15 for 12 games, including one of the rarer games for my favorite system.  The other games were the other TMNT games, Rally Bike, Baseball Simulator 1,000; Vegas Dreams, Gun.Smoke, LJN Baseball, 3D Worldrunner, Rollerball, and Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego?  So, it averaged out to $1.25 a game, and even better, my sister told me to not even worry about paying her back. ;D  I just regret that I wasn't there to actually find it myself to feel that thrill that comes from finding such a gem...  :-\
