Title: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: wildbil52 on July 03, 2013, 11:02:45 AM Everclear, Sponge, Filter, and Live are playing a $20 show in my hometown. As a fan of each of these bands, especially Live, I was super excited. I didn't realize Live was still together.
Well, apparently they aren't. The original singer left the band several years ago :( I'm not sure I want to see an Ed-less Live. Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on July 03, 2013, 11:06:04 AM ...but, Everclear, Sponge and Filter!
That sounds like a setup to a joke or euphemism. Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: wildbil52 on July 03, 2013, 11:12:36 AM ...but, Everclear, Sponge and Filter! Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: engel762 on July 03, 2013, 04:53:13 PM I dig me some Sponge, Live, and Filter. Not a big fan of Everclear personally, except maybe a couple songs. I'd still go even with personnel changes. None of those bands are even close to the original line ups at this point. Filter, Sponge, and Everclear pretty much just have the original lead singers, and entirely new band. Live has the original band, but a new singer.
And after reading some about Ed's hubris during the breakup in 2009-ish I'm not sure I can dig him as a person anymore. Sure he was the frontman and voice of the band, but when you start requesting "100k lead singer bonuses."Not to mention signing contracts behind your bandmates backs and not including them on said contracts... yeah, bad form. Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: bombatomba on July 03, 2013, 05:04:48 PM Everclear, Sponge, Filter, and Live are playing a $20 show in my hometown. Yikes. Attack of the nineties. Really surprised Everclear is still together (not so much Sponge), but then again pretty much everybody is getting back together these days. Yesterday I read that the original line-up for Veruca Salt were going to record again, and I though that would never have happened. Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: Techie413 on July 03, 2013, 05:21:01 PM So you have a 2 hit, No hit, 1 hit line-up left. Well, it is only $20.
Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on July 03, 2013, 05:40:39 PM ...Sponge had a few hits. Plowed is played all the time on the radio, and I hear Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain) fairly often. Wax Ecstatic hit #1 on the US Hit 100, but I've not heard it in a few years.
EDIT: HAHAHAH. The picture they have for Sponge on Wikipedia is from a hometown concert in Palm Beach. Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: A8scooter on July 03, 2013, 06:14:32 PM I'd go all day for 20.00. Great bands for The price

Title: Re: I don't know if I want to go to this concert now Post by: nupoile on July 03, 2013, 11:36:49 PM Live.....I used to say this was one of my top 5 favorite bands, I probably still would but now more for the conversation factor than anything else. I have their first 5 albums (up through "V") and may or may not have some mp3's of the barely released cassette when they were calling themselves Public Affection.
From wiki: "Kowalczyk, Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey joined together at a middle-school talent show in York, Pennsylvania. They remained together throughout high school, playing new wave covers.....the name Public Affection and recorded a self-released cassette of original songs" Up through their 3rd album it was really obvious the bands biggest strength was how well the group played as a group. The group was not only better than the 4 guys individually, it was way better. Once the 4th and especially the 5th album came along Live was turning into the Ed K. (said like - qwall check) show. Ed by himself does not make up 1/4 of the talent of the band. I think playing together as a group since they were in middle school gave them this awesome familiarity which paid off huge as a band. Then Ed got a big head. The band Everclear is from my area. Art Alexakis, the lead singer and only guy from the old group still in the band, basically is the band. If you are into Everclear at all, I wouldn't worry about the lineup having changed so much because Art is still there. That song "I Will Buy You a New Life" has the verse, "I will buy you that big house way up in the west hills"......The West Hills is an area of Portland, I drive through it every week. |
