I bet you Sony had a meeting and said, "let's wait to see what MS is doing then we'll make our big announcement." Sony was playing it safe, while Microsoft had the guts to boldly go with their plan. So, I don't think it's right to say Mattrick sunk Xbox.
This is a lateral move for him. He was a head of a department with Microsoft and now he potentially will be at the top of a company. He's a businessman, it's just what they do. I knew Zynga floundered completely on the stock market but the news of them dropping some other big wig and picking up Mattrick had given them a little more life. I guess he really really loved that always online business model. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter much. I doubt that he was the master mind behind all of this.
