Title: PC help needed - Sweetpacks
Post by: Izret101 on June 24, 2013, 08:13:37 AM
How the fuck do i get rid of it on Win8?

I have deleted multiple parts of it multiple times. As it stands now i can't find any trace of it but it keeps redirecting my pages when i open new tabs.

I saw people claim it piggy backed in on java or some other updates but i haven't updated either in quite some time.
I downloaded an macro program from CNet but i thought they were supposed to be safe to dload from :'(

Try reading through http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-sweetpacks-toolbar/   Sounds like the damned babylon crap I've had to remove from a few family members' computers in the last couple months.

That "restore firefox" bit seems to have removed the end of it.

I was able to find it in IE much easier than in FF. Which is odd since i only loaded IE up because i knew it had installed a part of itself there too.

I had already removed a half dozen different installers/uninstallers that kept reappearing.

Thank god i don't have Chrome on here too... Thanks Engel

those sort of reappearing malware programs are always such a pain to get rid of. glad you managed to wipe it out!

Yeah, hopefully it's gone. I've had a few times on roomies computers (OH YEAH LETS CLICK BANNER ADS ON SHADY PORN SITES) where I thought I got the bugger, but it remains in some way. Now I generally just reformat as soon as anyone brings me anything. I did generally just wipe it out manually on my own machines, though I haven't gotten a bad bug in a few years.

Job number one:  Get rid of Windows 8.  Sorry, you probably can't (or don't want to), but this is my normal reaction.

In the old says we would delete the program, remove registry entries, then boot up HijackThis and remove the BHOs and browser redirects that way.  Now MS has things so messed up that sometimes you can't even find the right damn hosts file to modify it.  Luckily you were able to fix it yourself.

On a side note, there is one really good thing about Windows 8:  it is the easiest MS OS to set back to factory default settings (assuming one still has the partition intact).
