Spray can + clear coat?

Yes. I use a plastic primer. Then a base color and a clear coat.
The clear on the Mario N64 and Zelda N64 is a two part clear in a can. You crack the seal and have 24hrs before it hardens in the can. Cost $20 a can. I usually try to line up a lot of things to clear.

The mega man snes and metroid GameCube are just regular clear coat. And I use a coat of wax on them as well.

I do have trouble sometimes with the buttons sticking since they have paint on them they don't move as good. I tried waxing them but only kinda works.

I know one guy on the site who'd totally dig that.

I'm not gonna tell you who, though...

I just got a extra sega. Was thinking about it. Go it for like $4 so why not. Maybe do it blue with small red or yellow accents.

Which version?  Regardless, that would be awesome.  Razor would prob flip his lid (and spill his beerios).

very nice work, I have always wanted to attempt this kinda of stuff, but I am always scared I will end up with a terrible mess, and an awful looking console in front of me.

Well you can just practice on some broken consoles first.
Ill try and make a how to video for my channel as well. It gets kinda hard to film all the steps while i do the steps ha.

I painted my wave bird finally going to shoot a quick video with it and the game cube. Should be sweet. Ill post a link here.

Very awesome work, Russ.  I'm also feeling an itch to do something more with my consoles than just slap a sticker or two on them.

I have been using vinyl alot with the paint. I paint them add the vinyl and than clear coat over it. Adds a extra touch.
Here's my "samus zero suit" themed wave bird

I'd better break the news to Crabby. I know he's not gonna take it well...

EDIT: And wipe the snot off of that TMNT NES controller while you're at it. That's just disgusting.  :leo: :nono:

Seriously, though... is the screw-attack logo actually embossed into the controller? Sure looks like it, the way it catches the light.

It's a vinyl decal. Same on the game cube with the metroid. I paint it with the base color then when it dries add the decal then spray a few coats of clear over it so you can't really feel it and it seals the decal in

No time-consuming, painstaking and intricate carving with a Dremel tool, huh?

Hey, whatever works.
