I want more games to collect but although i love the N64 i do not know alot of games that i would buy and enjoy because i used to love goldeneye but it just does not hold up today and that got me thinking what does hold up today. Super Smash Bros., 1080 Snowboarding, F-Zero X, & MarioKart 64 come to mind. I can play all of my N64 games for hours but I know what you mean by hold up well and those are the best examples I have off hand.

I love Blast Corps. Its probably the purest form of video game entertainment and its absolutely genius in its simplicity. Only Rareware man.

I still play the hell out of Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, and Mario Kart 64

A lot of good suggestions here, but can't believe I haven't heard Wave Race yet.

MarioKart is still playable. A lot of games though I think people have trouble with the controller.

I've been seriously thinking about getting one of these adaptor cables to permanently solve the N64 controller issue: http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_to_n64_adapter/index.php

Has anyone used one?

Depending where you are, some games hold up better than others due to some early games (e.g. Wave Race 64) got bad PAL conversions and that some had a low framerate that wasn't noticeable at the time but is now which makes it worse if you live in the UK/Europe.

Anyway while I like Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars and Rogue Squadron a lot, I don't think that they hold up today for someone new to the system (the former got a 3DS "port", the latter was also on the PC) so it would be hard to recommend games that don't show the N64's weaknesses as much.

Some good games though:

Blast Corps (haven't played it but heard it was good)
F-Zero X
F1 World Grand Prix (despite yearly Formula 1 games, this is one of the few that not only was playable back then but also one of the good ones) [note: there is a sequel in Europe that is slightly better than this one though but I'm guessing that you're American]
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (if you don't already have it on the Gamecube/3DS or if you want the uncensored version if you can find it)
Mario Kart 64 [NTSC yes, PAL maybe/maybe not]
Mischief Makers (sadly I don't own this game but its from Treasure at their prime and good 2D rarely ages)
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon (I think it is still playable but going by 13 years ago memory)
Mystical Ninja 2: Goemon's Great Adventure (not played this game, its in 2D though so it should be still)
Super Smash Bros.

Puzzle games like The New Tetris, Magical Tetris Challenge, Pokemon Puzzle League still hold up due to the 2D art that the games use [whether you like the late 90s Pokemon anime style of Puzzle League is another thing].

World Driver Championship was impressive back then and is one of the few games that must be played on a real system no matter what (no emulators work this game at all last time I checked) due to the custom microcode but racing games especially Gran Turismo style aren't to everyones cup of tea even though it has fictional cars.

Also If you like Diddy Kong Racing, there's Mickey's Speedway USA and if you like Banjo-Kazooie, there's Banjo-Tooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day (but be careful of framerate problems) in terms of the Rare stuff.

Aside from a few of the FPS most N64 games are still awesome to play.  Some of my favorites are:

Wave Race
Mickey Speedway
Killer Instinct Gold
Doom 64
Beetle Adventure Racing

I'll also speak in favor of Conker's Bad Fur Day. If that game doesn't make you laugh, nothing will. :)

__peaches fanboy :P

These are likely outdated by now, but it'll give you a good feel for Blast Corps:

Definitely second Mischief Makers as well. It has a lot of Gunstar Heroes inspiration from Treasure.

No one said Goldeneye?!

Took a while for me to get back into the controls last time i played but it was still solid fun.

Tried to make sure i didn't say anything that had been said before...

Battletanx: Global Assault, Dr Mario, Mario Parties, Jet Force Gemini, Kirby, Bio FREAKS(so bad it is good if that is your thing... ZIPPERHEAD MAKE YOU DEAD), BustaMove, Rampage, Star Wars Racer, Vigilante 8

Are all games i have gone back to in recent years and still had fun with.

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Banjo Kazooie/Tooie
Goldeneye 007
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask
Mario Kart 64
Paper Mario
Pokemon Puzzle League
Pokemon Snap (One of my favorite games of all time)
Star Fox 64
Super Mario 64

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.  I've had so much fun with the N64.

For me, Super Smash Bros is so outdated compared to Melee that I can't play it anymore.  Or maybe it's the collector in me that hates destroying my joysticks.

I've recently learned that the EU version is much better than the North American version, like actually playable and enjoyable. Of course none are as good as the PC original.

Glad I'm not the only one.  I stated a high score thread in the Arena if you're interested!

Wow the US version must be horrific if it makes the EU version look good - which is without a doubt the worst game I've ever played.

Thought of another game: Perfect Dark - its a lot more playable when using 2 pads

thanks seno for mentioning perfect dark! not sure why no one else had until then, it's basically an upgraded version of goldeneye, besides the occassional frame rate issues it holds up better.

also why hasn't anyone mentioned super mario 64? i know it's the most common game but it holds up pretty well for me.

i'm not sure how many of these would hold up with modern gamers and how many are just nostalgia, but anyway here's my list:

Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Beetle Adventure Racing (haven't played more than a few minutes but it seemed good and i've heard good things)
Blast Corps
Bust-A-Move series
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Cruis'n Series (these are just a ton of fun)
Diddy Kong Racing
Donkey Kong 64
Dr Mario 64
Extreme-G
Extreme-G 2
Flying Dragon (i'm not that big on fighting games but this one seemed good from a livestream someone did on here, it looked like an RPG fighting game.)
Gauntlet Legends
Jet Force Gemini
Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party 2 (this seemed to be the best of the 3 n64 MP games)
Mario Tennis
Mischief Makers (heard good things, haven't played myself)
The New Tetris
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 (if you don't like pokemon ignore this one)
Re-Volt (pretty fun RC racer, though i'm not sure how much i'd say it holds up today)
Rush series (classic arcade racing fun)
Space Invaders
Star Fox 64
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros (if you only know melee and/or brawl, you may not like this one, the controls feel more "floaty" compared to the later games)
Tetrisphere
Tony Hawk Pro Skater series (i only know the original but enjoy it every time i go back to it)
Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense (great vehicle combat series, loads of fun)
Worms Armageddon (the PC version is much better, but this one is still pretty awesome)
Yoshi's Story

I'm a little late on this, but I am surprised nobody has mentioned WWF No Mercy or any of the other AKI/THQ N64 wrestling games.  I remember I had friends that didn't even like pro wrestling, but they played this game.  If you can get a Gameshark and want to play the greatest wrestling game ever, look for Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.  It was a Japan only release, but it is hands down the greatest wrestling game in my opinion.

i just can't bring myself to have anything to do with "pro" wrestling. i can feel the brain cells dying just looking at the "fighters".
