We all have that one game we loved to play growing up and would play every time going to the arcade. Here is a place we can share our memories and talk about which ones we loved the most.

For me Outrun would be the go to arcade game for me. One of the few racing games you had to stand  instead of sit for. Which I always thought gave it more character.

I can't name just one favorite but can say I remember playing TMNT and X-Men with friends the most in arcades growing up.  Man I remember being so blown away by the intro movie for Xmen. Had nothing like that at home. Still not seen that re-released. Ninja turtles was a blast with friends but I always had to play Leo so I was on the corner and had a hard time seeing anything.

As a young kid, my favorites were Pac-Man, Kung Fu, and Joust.  Later I found myself drawn to TMNT, Off-Road, Virtual Fighter, and Lethal Enforcers.  But there were so many great releases in the last 80's, early 90's.

Every time my day care took a summer bus trip to the local Chuck E. Cheese, I'd haul ass to the sit-down cockpit version of Red Baron. My six-year-old self just dearly loved that WWI fighter sim with the super-slick vector graphics, I tell ya what.

I'd spend quite some time downing zeppelins and the slower enemy fighters. Sadly, I'd always get shot down from behind. The screen would warn me of an enemy behind me, but by the time I saw the warning, it was too late. Come to think of it, I wasn't particularly good at playing it... but I loved it regardless.

Sadly, I haven't seen a Red Baron arcade machine in over 25 years. And I know they rereleased it for the PC with much more realistic graphics, but... it's just not the same, you know? It was perfect just the way it was originally presented, just like the Star Wars trilogy.

Well, that figures...

...I use Google images to find a pic of the Red Baron arcade machine I put in my previous post, and I discover one of the few video game-based t-shirts I'd actually bother to wear:

Sadly, it appears these were only made in a limited run three years ago.

Now I'm bummed out.  :(

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 if pressed, but I spent a lot of time on Street Fighter Zero 3 and Street Fighter 3.

When I was really young the corner store where my dad liked to go buy smokes and sports cards used to have an X-Men arcade cab. I always wanted to go out with him when he left the house so I could play that machine as he stopped at that store almost daily.

When we moved to BC we lived in a town with only one arcade, but it had several machines I spent a lot of time on. Marvel Super Heroes, Area 51 and Bust a Move come to mind right away.

Whenever we were travelling and I got to go to new arcades I always spent most of my money on either Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or The Simpsons games though. I remember having to wait in line for those ones quite a bit as they were always full.

Galaga. I love it so much I bought a bartop model. Close second would be TMNT.

Roadblasters I could play it all day.

Funny, not Red Baron, but one of either two fellow vector games for me: either Tempest or Major Havoc was my favorite :)

For me it was Star Wars. I was lucky enough to be young during the arcade heyday, and played a lot of games and pinball, but I always came back to this one. They had the cockpit version at the roller skating rink I went to all the time.

Tempest was my favorite cab to play when growing up. Still love Ms. Pac and Galaga as well.

House of the Dead holds a special place in my heart, since it is the machine where my wife and I bonded over during many a date in college.

Good memories of Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat cabs when I was a teen.

...but my most recent favorite cab has to be L.A. Machine Guns (Wii has a nice combo port of this and Gunblade):

Love that vibrating platform

Uh, yeah. Imagine the banana, and 3 friends during St. Patrick's Day at a Dave & Busters playing this machine with a fully-stocked bar at our disposal.

While I played a bunch of arcade games when I was younger, it was always a different game everytime (plus usually I played an arcade game and later got the console port [Daytona, Virtua Cop, Silent Scope 2, Cruis'n USA, Time Crisis 1 & 2, Point Blank, Sega Rally 1 & 2, more recently The Fast and the Furious/Cruis'n and today got the arcade port of OutRun 2 a game that I played in the arcades even though OutRun 2006 is better] but there is one game that stood out.

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, the Sega Model 3 one that came out when the Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy was released in cinemas. It was everything I loved about the original Star Wars Trilogy wrapped around a joystick based light gun shooter [think Operation Wolf mixed with Virtua Cop] and a good form of QTEs at the boss battles. Everytime I saw that I played on it until a couple of years ago when the Spanish arcades that had it closed down and became betting shops. Unlike the others, it was never ported at all. I'm sure the Wii would have done it justice...

I loved that trilogy machine. Space battles, ground battles, lightsaber fights, Death Star run.  I always hoped it would make it to the Dreamcast but it never did.  I've seen a few of the stand up models for sale but I really prefer the sit down model. 

That was a great game. I played it a little older so I didn't include it, but in the dying days of arcades the Trilogy was a great game.

Wow, I've never seen a site where everyone liked that game!

Whenever I've seen it mentioned on forums people have complained about it  :-X I've always liked it.

S.T.U.N. Runner

Gosh, I love the primitive polygonal graphics.  The game was fast and smooth, and the shooting element added to gameplay value.

I'm always pleased to see "tube-shooter" games (or at least portions.

I've seen it return in N2O (PS1), Torus Trooper (PC/freeware), and some races in Star Wars ep1 Racer.

I forgot about Trilogy! I used to love playing that game.  I'd love to see a port on the Wii/PSMove.

When I was really young, we'd visit my grandparents about twice a year (they lived 4 hours away) and it was our tradition to get a late night pizza from a place called "Don's Pizza". It was a tiny little hole in the wall with 3 chairs, but they also had a Pac-Man cocktail table. My dad would give me a couple of quarters and I'd play while waiting for the order. That was probably the only arcade I played until I was 11 or so.

In terms of when I actually started to go to legitimate arcades, there is only one machine that stood out and that was Killer Instinct. It was twice as loud as any other machine, it had great music and if you could remember combos/combo breakers, you could show off a bit. I wasn't great at it, but I was not as bad as I was at most games, and that meant a lot to me.

As a young kid, I would say it was Rampage, I loved playing that, I remember being pissed when I got the NES version because I could only pick between Lizzie and George.

Later on I would say it was TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, all the games where multiple people could play at the same time, it made for some great times when I had Birthday Parties at the Arcade.

All time favorite is Galaga.
Honorable mention goes to The Return of the Jedi game.  Used to go up to the Poconos with the family every year and this game was there way longer than it should have been.

When I was a kid and my town had a Chuck E. Cheese, I played the crap out of both Moon Patrol and Toobin', and they quickly became my favorites.  Sadly, nowadays, there's no real arcades in my town, but a local Mexican place called Burritoville has a cocktail cab with Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga, which I play every time I go in.  Only a quarter to play either one, too, just like old times.   :)

Surprised (and glad) to see that, as I've seen a lot of posts online about people not liking that game.  I guess they wanted Atari to do vector Star Wars game #3 on that one.  I've always enjoyed it, and it usually makes it to a local expo that I usually attend here every year.
