...you DO realize who's in charge in the interim, right? I wouldn't say "yay".

I doubt ANYTHING will change regarding EA's current stance on microtransactions and such.  A CEO change won't do much for EA.

I know who's in charge in the period between the end of March and whenever the next CEO is named. Hint: Riccitiello's predecessor!

Stock price plummetted in 2008/2009 (not sure how much is attributable to economy), so I doubt they'll move away from their "service" model transactions.

Most of the stock price plummet was due to the recession here in the US - EA's stock price at the time was a bit inflated, as were most of the video game industry at the time. EA also had a transition period where corporate restructuring was taking place.

Larry Probst will do a great job as Olympic Chairman in driving EA to develop an Olympics Sports title. Somehow, it'll become a yearly release.

Can they really pose a significant threat to the Mario & Sonic Olympic Games franchise, though?

'Course, that's for you to figure out, Mr. Interim CEO Guy...  ;)
