I am thinking about starting a homebrew cart collection for NES and Atari 2600. Does any of you guys have homebrew collections? What is your cool homebrews? I see the ones on sale but is there some that are no long being made that you may have? They are an interesting addition to a collection, and RetroZone has quite a few available.

He was interested in making games as a career and had been making games on one of those do-it-yourself game editors. The kid wanted to upgrade from a free editor/game maker to a paid one, so he was trying to sell a few games he made. My wife bought one of the games for $5 I think. It is just a disc but he wrote out the name of his game and some other stuff on it. This was several years ago now. I always hoped he did go into that line of work.
The other game, which I hesitate to call a homebrew, is Halo 2600 for the Atari 2600. The difference in production value of these two games has, for a long time now, had me kicking around the idea of starting a thread so we could talk about "what is a homebrew game? and do we need to use a different word when talking about games on the level of Halo 2600?" One of the podcasts I listen to, Retro Gaming Roundup, is going to release an Atari game shortly. I am definitely getting in on that. It is pretty cool, but both of these are what good collecting is about, good stories. |
