In a debate recently sparked by Quakula's acquisition of a Model 1 Sega CD, I was wondering which BIOS music people prefer.  Sega CD Model 1 or 2?

My vote goes for Model 2. Sounds like something that could have been part of Rush's Power Windows album.

I like the beat of 2 more.

Model 1 for me. I played a lot of Sega CD games on a model 1 SCD growing up.

That probably has a lot to do with it.  All I played growing up was the Model 2.

I was a Nintendo kid growing up so I didn't play either!!!1

I like both equally... I don't, however, like the PAL and NTSC-J Mega CD music.

I'm leaning to model 1.
2 is good too but it is more low key... if that makes any sense.

The Mega CD is the best sounding quality wise but worst of the 3 by a long shot.

I've never really liked the model 1 music it sounds too much like the Love Boat theme to me. :/

So model 2 (or CDX) for me.

Model 1, but just because it was what I always had.

Me too.  But between M1 and M2, M1 from nostalgia.

same for me. Though I had M1 and M2 growing up, I remember M1 more.

M1 sends the nostalgia into overdrive whenever I hear it.

I like both of them but if I had to pick I think I would go with Model 1.

Don't suppose PAL/Jap can be a third option. It's my favourite, basically because I grew up with a PAL Mega-CD 2.

I can only vote for what I know.  I have always preferred the Gen2 and that is the model of Sega CD I own.

It's likely due to bias, seeing as how i own a Model 1 unit, but my preference is for the Model 1 music.

Though to be honest, neither one really does all that much for me.

1, although the music I listen for most when I play Sega CD is the "Sega" tune after you hit start (after Sonic's hand shoots sparks).

Am I the only one who prefers the model 1 music despite not growing up with a Sega CD at all? :(

Then again, I also really love the soundtrack to Street Fighter Alpha 3 so maybe my taste in video game music is just weird.

I prefer the Model 1. Sounds kind of mysterious in a strange way, which I like.

I never owned one as a kid. I've had one now for a year or 2 and never even tested it to see if it worked.

I think that pretty much describes the crux of nostalgia.  Do we like it because we grew up with it or because it is good.  Now you, Quackula, can bask in the sun knowing that you are perfectly right!  Model 1 features that strange "jamming on a synth" sound that I associate with the Sega CD, while the Model 2 sounds like a crappy pop tune.  Sorry, Crab  :P
