Speaking of which: I can taste it now. And it tastes so banana-ey, doesn't it? Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Razor Knuckles on December 04, 2012, 09:46:48 PM Only made it through the Small Scores section for today, but as always you guys do a great job of bringing all the finds together and making me drool in jealousy, and of course somehow I laugh at your guys humor. Great work so far. :)

As for the Value Village CD-I score. I live in a suburb of Toronto in Ontario. And thanks for the tip Bil. Appreciate it. I'll ask the store staff for hardware I find media for. I'm listening as I write this, so I'm excited to get to the NES portion. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Quackula on December 04, 2012, 11:42:27 PM Holy crap a 4 hour podcast.
Guess I'm going to be ignoring a lot of people at work today :P Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: wildbil52 on December 05, 2012, 12:34:57 AM Holy crap a 4 hour podcast. Guess I'm going to be ignoring a lot of people at work today :P I'm glad that people are generally OK with a long show but we have been talking about trimming the length a bit. Bandwidth costs money and we've used up a lot of what we paid for so far (and when I say "we" I mean Duke and Crabby). Until we are international celebrities with fast stacks, we'll have to watch our Jigabytes. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Duke.Togo on December 05, 2012, 02:40:21 AM Let us know what you guys think. If you all really enjoy these long monstrosities, we can churn them out. If you feel it's too long, we want to hear that to. We're just here to keep you guys entertained and keep the site going.
@Fleach: It's a lot better than Dec. 29th, trust me. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Quackula on December 05, 2012, 09:46:39 AM Woah me and WildBil have the same birthday. :o
I'm cool with the long podcasts. If you're gonna trim them down, I'd prefer if they at least were kept to a 2 hour minimum. (We also incidentally have a local pawn shop chain called "Wild Bill's." Kinda eerie...) Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: InvadErGII on December 05, 2012, 01:05:51 PM Loving this episode so far. Great stuff as always, guys. :)
I think the show could stand to be trimmed a bit. It's not for lack of quality content, but some days 3-4 hours is just prohibitively long. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: techwizard on December 05, 2012, 03:05:39 PM would it be feasible to do shorter episodes more often? maybe 2 hour episodes every 2-3 weeks instead of a 3 or 4 hour episode every month or more.
edit: i'm fine with the length as is, but this might be a nice way to get more episodes out faster ;) and like invader said sometimes 3 or 4 hours is a bit much. a lot of times i can't watch it right away because i know i don't have the time to (i'd much rather do it all in one sitting than pause and come back if i can). Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: wildbil52 on December 05, 2012, 03:10:29 PM would it be feasible to do shorter episodes more often? maybe 2 hour episodes every 2-3 weeks instead of a 3 or 4 hour episode every month or more. There are 2 issues: 1-Finding a time across 3 time zones that works for all three of us. Usually not a huge problem, but sometimes we get busy and it gets pushed a week or so. 2-Duke finding time to edit the show. It's definitely a quicker process than when he first started cause he's learning tricks and getting quicker, but since Duke has to listen to the entire show while putting everything together, editing a 4 hour show takes AT LEAST 4.5 hours. A shorter show every few weeks may be something that we try to lighten Duke's workload. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: techwizard on December 05, 2012, 03:25:10 PM ya that's what i meant, have something that takes less time to record and edit so that episodes could be released faster ;) . you could even do multi-part episodes for any topics you want to go longer.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Duke.Togo on December 05, 2012, 04:28:41 PM I'd say editing this episode took probably 6 hours all together. I try to do it in chunks. Thanks for the feedback guys, and I'm sure we'll continue to tweak things as we go.

I always love the anecdotes about the relationship between Atari/Tengen and Nintendo during the NES days. That's one of the most fascinating stories in video game history, I think.

Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: NES_Rules on December 05, 2012, 05:13:45 PM I realized today that one thing I find incredibly interesting about these podcasts is how people pronounce different things. I never would have said Tengen with a hard G like Duke does. And then there's the names of different forum members... Sometimes you guys mention someone and I have no idea who you're talking about because I never even try to pronounce their name, its not until you talk about them for a while I figure it out.
Regarding the length, I vote for shorter episodes more frequently, but if that's not doable, I have zero problem with 4+ hour long episodes. While I'm working, I can either listen all day long or not at all, so one long episode is actually more convenient than several short episodes. But I know if I wasn't able to listen at work, it would take me several broken up listening sessions to get it all. Also, I don't know how you guys spend 2 hours talking about the small scores thread actually a good listen, but you do it. If I had never heard an episode before, and was told there was 2 hours devoted to talking about things people bought, I'd think it'd be the most boring 2 hours of my life, but actually listening to it is always entertaining. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Johnny Nintendo on December 05, 2012, 05:22:22 PM Just listened to some of the latest podcast, thanks for including me on the scores section! On the Micro Machines deal, I already had the gold Camerica cart and someone on Digital Press had a few games for trade and one of them was a CIB Aladdin Micro Machines, so I got it while I had the opportunity. I don't mind the 3-4 hour podcasts, but sometimes I have to listen to it in parts. I would really like it if you guys could do 2 a month, each an hour or two long.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Sauza12 on December 05, 2012, 07:02:10 PM I kind of chuckled when you guys were talking about being born in December. My wife and I had our first kid last year on December 20th and one of the first questions everyone asked us after she was born is what we were going to do about her birthday since it is so close to Christmas. It honestly never entered my mind as a thing to worry about until people started asking me.

Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: nupoile on December 05, 2012, 11:38:25 PM I'm famous!
I always knew the small scores was my ticket! So yes, my wife did pick up a couple of import games for me on a business trip. Duke guessed she went to Asia, I guessed she went to Denver. I suppose we'll never know..... If we were to assume the Denver area though, I'm fairly easy going, we can say Denver is in Asia. Maybe we can call it "Shangri-Denver". The game store was actually in Loveland, (Osaklovelanda?) it is called "Games Ahoy!" Your podcast length is fine by me, I promise I have more time to listen to podcasts than you have words to say. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Duke.Togo on December 05, 2012, 11:56:00 PM Your story is a lot less exciting than the one I dreamt up.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: nupoile on December 06, 2012, 12:05:45 AM Okay, um, how about this? I promise, the next time anyone I know goes to the exotic location of "Colorado", I will give them an extensive list of Famicom games for them to get. We can share in the spoils. All Night Nippons all around!
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: RetroRage on December 06, 2012, 08:52:53 AM The podcast isn't long enough if you ask me. I've build up a tolerance and i need more to get my fix. I'm a true junkie

Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Izret101 on December 06, 2012, 03:28:50 PM I think more frequent (and shorter if needed) eps would be cool.
It would give you guys a chance to touch on a little bit more during busy weeks and not have to cut things short that you might want to keep expanding on during the long eps. Loved Bils entrance to the show this time around. Sounded like he was really rushed and coming away from his epic rescue. Only 25 mins in so far but per usual things are great Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Izret101 on December 06, 2012, 04:59:12 PM EDIT
Double post... I thought my last one hadn't gone through wasn't paying attention..,. Also YAAAAAYYYY i got a mention. I actually hate downloadable content which sadly makes up the bulk of me collection now. It just takes up much less space around the apartment ;) And since my gamerscore competition has ended my achievement hunting has slowed down a ton and hopefully my collection can rebound. As for the Mortal Kombat II mention. It is generally regarded as the best in the series. My personal favorite was always UMK3 though and MKII was probably my least favorite. I believe it was also the most difficult. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: GrayGhost81 on December 06, 2012, 05:44:41 PM I'm about an hour and a half in right now.
I don't care about the long length for a show that comes out monthly, for what it's worth. Also, my second mention in two months! Yay! I'm about to go back to the thrift store where I got the $5 lot. Fingers crossed. Once again thanks for the kind words and concern regarding the storm. We're pretty much back to normal as are most people we know. Keep up the great work guys! Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Duke.Togo on December 06, 2012, 06:44:55 PM Wow Izret, 19,000 posts. That's nuts.
Thanks again for more feedback. I think if we wanted to do shows more frequently they'd have to be shorter, or we'd have to do a fundraiser for more server space. These monsters are pretty big files. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: GrayGhost81 on December 06, 2012, 06:46:24 PM Listened to this episode on my way to the thrift store for good luck. See the small scores thread for the results.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Quackula on December 06, 2012, 10:40:03 PM As for the Mortal Kombat II mention. It is generally regarded as the best in the series. My personal favorite was always UMK3 though and MKII was probably my least favorite. I believe it was also the most difficult. I like UMK3 fine, but every time I go back to it it seems like I have to re learn all those dial-a-combos. It's very fun once you take the time to really get back into it, but I always found MK2 to have a lot more pick-up-and-playability. Plus I always found it kinda odd how incredibly cheap looking all the finishers in MK3 are, despite pretty much everything else having a high degree of polish. I'm considering picking up an MK1 board sometime to throw in this cabinet. I'd do 3 as well, but I'd have to add that run button and I don't want to drill any holes into this thing. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Izret101 on December 06, 2012, 11:53:45 PM I BOUGHT A POWER GLOVE BECAUSE IT LOOKED COOL!
It was missing parts so i wore it around for a day like a cyborg and then returned it. EDIT http://regularshow.wikia.com/wiki/The_Maximum_Glove Fast forwarded the video for you to the part most appropriate. Generally the show features them playing on a SMS. I think one of my favotire scenes was them playing a 2 buttoned Guitar Hero. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWzXXkb5GY0&feature=player_detailpage#t=106s Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Izret101 on December 07, 2012, 12:17:42 AM Speedy_NES is the man in the know for NES peripherals.
He shows up every once in awhile. Not sure if he got out of collecting or not but he was a great guy too. While typing this: LASERSCOPE LOOKED AWESOME I learned about it when i picked up this game from a local shop: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-027-S-03600-A My copy happened to have the coupon in it still so that got scanned to :) I wanted to get one to wear around with the power glove to complete the cyborg look. I was young.... EDIT So i stop posting so many times in a row. This was one of my favorite NES games Abadox http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-027-S-00090-A EDIT Last one. Finished listening. Bedtime now. Since they mentioned us crossing the 70k threshold i happened across this screen cap (i took a LONG time ago) recently and didn't even notice the stats until NES_Rules had pointed them out... September 24, 2004: We had just over 12k games in the database. At the time hardware was not tracked. Members would submit missing titles into a thread and a staff member would then have to add them. Just under 3,000 scans These were also uploaded to a thread, emailed, IMed etc to staffers who put them into the DB Just under 4,100 screen shots - same procedures as the scans. EDIT I lied. For those who notice the error message on the side there. I can't remember what that was about but the issue was very limited and most other people could not replicate the error i was seeing. Much like most of my life today it was a unique problem that i was special enough to encounter. +1 for consistency. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 9 Post by: Orzunoid on December 08, 2012, 10:30:38 AM Interesting commentary on the different Zapper models. 19012 (6.177 per day) Funnily enough 6.1 was number of achievements i need to obtain each day to hit the goal i set for myself this year. It is up to 6.9 now though.
