Title: Enable Mexico/Germany/Korea for XBLA
Post by: Izret101 on November 30, 2012, 09:28:18 PM
All US releases are current. I will not be tackling all Euro/Japanese releases. I will however continue to add Euro/Japanese exclusives as i become aware of them (specifically if any new ones happen to come out.)
We should only be missing 2 Japanese, 2 Korean(exclusive from the rest of Japan), 1 Mexican(Exclusive from the rest of NA), 2 German(exclusive from rest of Europe).

Mexico is under North America.
Germany is under Europe.
Korea is now enabled.

EDIT: Variation Addition Anthony, not Title Addition! You can tie games from other regions together too!

I see no point in tying an NTSC-J, NTSC and PAL release together when they all share the same title.

if the game is the same and the only difference is language then that would be a variant to me :P

He's not saying it's not a variant - just that he doesn't see the need for it to be tied together.

oh ok, well i still disagree with him on that then...i mean they are related to each other so i don't see why they wouldn't be tied.

Because unlike when games change titles between regions it really isn't that hard to see all of the versions when you search anyways.
If i type in Mario Bros i am going to see all versions of it. I don't need to click on the game page and essentially reload the exact same list again.

However if you search for  Pro Evolution Soccer you might not know that it is the same game as Winning Eleven. Those would be worth tying together.

Excact same name for the exact same game in a different region - not worth it IMO
Different name for exact same game in different region(or even same region in some cases) - worth it IMO

I'll just say my favorite reason for having different regions tied together. Say you search for "mario bros" you get a huge list from every region and nearly every console in the last 20 years, so it can be tough finding the one game you want. But, if you happen to see the right game on the right console, but a different region, you can still click it and that page includes a short list of games that has what you want.

Also, the point of our DB isn't really to have a list of games generated by your search terms, its the game pages themselves, and all the info that goes into them. And a game being released in different regions is pretty valuable information, so why wouldn't we display that?
