Title: My adventures in inventorying. Pic (links) included
Post by: Izret101 on November 19, 2012, 01:31:14 PM
While re-adding my collection, updating DB info and then finding a place to store it all again i am going to try and snap a pics and give a brief update on each step.

I had posted links elsewhere that will probably be dead since i created a new folder specifically for this thread.
So this is how things started:

Jam packed closet
http://sdrv.ms/UBqBgM

Kombat totes
http://sdrv.ms/U9qVad

Corner of shame
http://sdrv.ms/U9qY5Y

360 games
http://sdrv.ms/U9qZ9V

Progress made thus far:

Entered all of the oversized 360 games
http://sdrv.ms/U9Jc5i

Freed up some closet space:
http://sdrv.ms/10gv0uG
&
http://sdrv.ms/S6mAnG

I added a bunch of 360 imports and kinect games to my collection last night i will wait until finishing all the other standard sized 360 games before getting them together for the next pic.

That's a nice walk-in closet. How long did it take you to organize it?

Actually it isn't so much a walk in closet as a suck in your gut and slide in closet.
As for organizing it it is actually a complete mess.
Games are not alphabetical or sorted by system anymore and i have things in there that i never added and thing not in there that i have sold.

If i can snap a picture of the top shelf of hardware i'll do so. Have to finish clearing out the visible shelves first.

Happy Thanksgiving Izret's collection!

Took much of the day but i added another ~225 360 games to my collection.
Got a bunch of info added to the DB and added some missing titles too ;D

I did not add things like Kinect Adventures or Resident Evil 5 NFR since i do own the hardware they were bundled with. I consider them to be part of a total package.

Thankfully i only have 6 games that need boxes/manuals. I believe i have sets for 2 of those. Won't know for sure until i find and go through all my orphans again though...

Mini wall of 360 games:
http://sdrv.ms/RQ8i9j

Tomorrow i delve into the closet.
Working from the top down on the shelves i put in there before getting to the hardware that was on the existing shelf WAY up top.

Top shelf i believe currently has a mix of Viewmaster Interactivision, NDS, Xbox, PC and misc DVD based stuff.
DS is right up front so i'll attack that first. Should give me the ability to move some PC stuff out of the way and get to Viewmaster which will take all ov 2 minutes. Then the heavy hitter for the day will be Xbox. I'm hoping i can get it all done in a day.

There are a lot of oversized/Collector's/Limited editions this gen. One just has to look at your oversized box 360 picture to get an idea:  http://sdrv.ms/U9Jc5i

I don't want to think about how many are going to be made for the next set of consoles, and for the price point they usually charge $70-$120 per edition it is just not worth it. ..

Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Not pictured there are my Mortal Kombat Kollectors and Tournament Edition or Kingdoms of Amalur Signature edition(this may never be pictured).

Compared to quite a few other people i actually think i have a (relatively)small number of the nonstandard 360 releases.

I have actually been able to grab nearly all of them at clearance or going out of business sales from(in order of frequence) BestBuy, GameCrazy, NewEgg.com, amazon.com, one from Walmart, one from Kmart, and even one from Big Lots.

Dark Souls CE came in as a purchase from someone at GameTZ. Other than that they have all been "retail" purchases thus far.

Anyways back to work for now...

http://sdrv.ms/WinJXn

Xbox also done  - except for the things i think might be hiding
http://sdrv.ms/Udi7QJ

ViewMaster InteractiveVision done - took ages with so many titles...
http://sdrv.ms/RRwwQu

Also hiding in the back

Now for the pics of the horrible WAY top shelf i had mentioned

Gamecube done
http://sdrv.ms/T2H8dW
I don't understand how i can have 4 sets of duplicates... Or how my dupe Baten Kaitos magically opened itself.

PS2 done
http://sdrv.ms/RSwDvc
A couple games here either have been completely opened that were sealed before or have started spontaneously tearing the cello. I think i have a poltergeist who hates sealed games...

Some more visible in this top top shelf. I guess this would be a teaser of things to come?
http://sdrv.ms/RSwU0Z

Still have to add my dwindling Wii/N64/SNES/Genny collections, Gameboy/Color/Advance, PC, Demos, Orphans, V.Smile, Pico, tons of hardware, XBLA( :'( so many games), everything Mortal Kombat and whatever other misc. stuff is floating around in the cardboard boxes on the floor still.

Luckily i have not had any commentary from the wifey and only got the evil eye on the very first day.

I wasw also completely heardbroken to (re)discover that two of my pricier games have pretty serious damage to the discs. I am hoping they will be buffable. Futurama for the Xbox and Ocarina of Time/Masterquest on GCN.

I also threw away a few games that i knew were beyond repair that i grabbed from the free bin when i worked at GameCrazy.
I miss the free bin. I got so much swag from there. Sometimes i really miss working at a game store.

I luvs me some collectors editions.
I went through a phase where i was seeking out all kinds of "nonstandard" games. Thats actually how i ended up with the viewmaster too.

Wow, this looks like it is coming along amazingly well. Nice stash!
Thanks :) I'm going to sneak over to my parents place to get some pics of what i have there sometime this week. Most of that is systems, magazines, store displays and misc game related stuff.

I am REALLY worried about condition though because i know when i lived there i had to run a dehumidifier nonstop and i am sure it has probably gone unused for the ~6+ years i have been gone.

loose... discs... e v e r y w h e r e.

http://nooooooooooooooo.com

In my defense all the games had just come out of zip locks i was using for transportation when i was working across state. 100 discs are easy to bring back and forth. 100 boxes not so much. Most regrettably all of them look like they spent 6 months out of boxes though. Everything still runs but i hate when i disc has a million little scratches in the bottom of it.

You're doing it right. I used to spend so much money on oversized box editions of games only to see them go to the bargain bin a month later.

Keep the pictures coming it looks better and better.  8)

On an individual basis, I appreciate the contents of a limited edition, but from a collecting standpoint,  they can become overbearing.

Some pics of piles of crap at my parents house. Mostly systems and magazines.
Nintendo powers barely visible as well as some other Nintendo related stuff and a ton of demos in the bottom of the nintendo system holder thing.
http://sdrv.ms/TYTpkT

Crash RC car, walkthrus, mags barely visible
http://sdrv.ms/RUUhaq

Systems
http://sdrv.ms/UXqq5B
http://sdrv.ms/UXqvpL
http://sdrv.ms/RUUxGq

Oddball systems GH, GH2 Demo Kit CTR Pinball (this and the next 2 pics seem to only show up when they want to)
http://sdrv.ms/TcMALD

Displays all boxed up
http://sdrv.ms/QZKJxL
http://sdrv.ms/QZKLWt

More mag stacks
http://sdrv.ms/TcMNhS

Xbox in a bag not really noteworthy who puts a system in a bag though...
http://sdrv.ms/QZKVNy

MORE MAGS thing i am lifting up is a huge vinyl MK display. Can't remember which game it is for
http://sdrv.ms/QZL3fS

Got the movie in Italy and got ripped off on the GB cassette player if memory serves it is supposedly brand new but has no headphones in it where they belong.
http://sdrv.ms/QZLcQE

Probably the most boring picture
http://sdrv.ms/QZLqHr
Kindgoms of Amalur Signature edition is inside. Can't get any more sealed than a factory shipping box though AMIRITE!?!

As for progress made in between that excursion and finishing up my secret santa gift pack and hanging out at a new(to me) local shop(which was SOOO much fun) i managed to finish nearly all of the boxed Gameboy/Color/Advanced stuff. I haven't come across a GBA platinum system and i know there are still carts hiding. Pretty sure there should be another cache of complete/sealed stuff too. But enough is there to be picture worthy. Especially since i am moving onto the next system...

Anyways
Gameboy related stuffs:
http://sdrv.ms/UTQEjx

Next systems on the chopping block are Genny/SNES/N64/Pico probably in that order.

Auditing your collection sure can be trying, especially if you have a lot of stuff.

I decided to audit my collection when it hit 1000 pieces, and it took me almost two weeks to complete.

It didn't help that I was in the middle of it when the Great Outage occurred, and my collection had mysteriously lost about 100 items after the site got back up.

Still, when all was said and done, I discovered I actually had less than 1000 pieces, mainly due to taking console components I'd listed separately beforehand, and bundled them with the consoles they belonged to.

I'll do another audit when my collection reaches 1500 pieces.

Starting to lose motivation
Genny games all suck. Still want to buy the rest of the Pico collection, SNES has some worthwhile/rare stuff, N64, V.Smile/Leapster in here too
http://sdrv.ms/R0uyAf
http://sdrv.ms/WAaQNr

Ran across 2 more Xbox game while i was going through the boxes those were in.
Games that are apparently missing so far has jumped significantly i have boxes/manuals for all of these but no carts. No clue where they could have gone...

Genny:
Tecmo Super Bowl 3
Ahhh real monsters
Lion King
Joe Montana Football
Shinobi III

N64
Super Smash Bros - JP Import

GBA
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Pokemon Emerald
at least 1large flatrate priority box full of CIB/sealed games. I believe it is actually 2 tho

I haven't uncovered game.com stuff yet so i am hoping that some of this might have gotten pushed back in a box behind all the controllers/hardware/misc stuff on the top shelf.

Wow.  Last time I audited my collection it took more than two weeks (maybe three days full days of actual work), and I have less than 600 pieces.  For your efforts I have much respect, Iz

No pics this time.
XBLA is done. Sitting at 334 titles. Before the inventory i only had 153.(Still need to add my JP ones. That should be a breeze though.) Sadly this is by far the largest collection. I believe it is the highest number of games i have ever had for any given "system".

Also nearly done with the CIB hardware that is here. Going to pull the last couple things out of the closet then start alphabetizing, coming up with a storage plan and reshelving everything.

Going to see about snagging a scanner tomorrow.... hopefully. I would like to fill in some DB holes before i have to get everything put away again.

Have started doing scans for games missing images.
Gotten through Xbox and GCN so far.
http://sdrv.ms/USFuex
&
http://sdrv.ms/UZl6c8

But...
http://sdrv.ms/SluAj4

Going to take a break and download/mess around with image resizers that have been mentioned and get the scans i took today uploaded to the site.
I only had to do just over 100 so far.

But i cherry picked the systems.

EDIT
http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-076-S-01492-A&
Well all my scans pretty much look like this or worse so i guess i will save a bunch of time on not scanning in the rest of my shit.
Just wish i hadn't wasted all that time already now :-/

Nah only a year old. It is one of those all in ones.
They looked fine in the preview window so i am assuming i inadvertently had some setting selected that i didn't want to have selected.

Post by: techwizard on November 26, 2012, 02:29:54 AM
ahh ok, ya i would go through all the settings and put anything to do with picture quality at max, you can't go wrong with that ;)

Actually, I have a similar issue with one of my scanners. It's just a crap scanner, as far as I can tell.

Title: Re: My adventures in inventorying. Pic (links) included
Post by: mumboking on November 26, 2012, 12:24:03 PM
Do the images look like that before resizing? It could be the resizer program causing it.

Title: Re: My adventures in inventorying. Pic (links) included
Post by: Izret101 on November 26, 2012, 06:27:20 PM
Yep. Like i said though in the scan preview they looked fine but when i uploaded i noticed how shitty it looked. Checked the resizes and originals and both looked like ass.

As for progress made.
I have nearly all my games put away. All the hardware and almost all of the oversized/colletors edition games are still stacked in a wall though.

I still have to go through 4 more totes/boxes of hardware, 1 large and one huge tote of mortal kombat stuff, and finally PC games.

Title: Re: My adventures in inventorying. Pic (links) included

Been really lazy the last 2 days.
Got Pico and Genesis put away(not like there was much to do)
http://sdrv.ms/ScjoWo

First volley of hardware put back up top
http://sdrv.ms/TlqTsq

Got 360 games alphabetized and stacked. Since it is the largest library and will probably be growing the fastest still and definitely getting the most use i put it on the floor. I should be able to get another 120-150 games before i run into
http://sdrv.ms/V11yDV

Title: Re: My adventures in inventorying. Pic (links) included
Post by: techwizard on November 28, 2012, 12:55:07 AM
if you don't have shelves for the 360 games you should at least get a couple thin sheets of something to put between the rows of games. otherwise the middle and bottom games would probably get annoying to pull out because ones above them would keep falling through the gaps. at least i would find that annoying ;)

Finally got to the Kombat bins today.

Added the CD/DVD/Genny/PC games without incident but then i opened up the one that has all the cardboard games and it smells like basement >:-(
This was about 65 games/pieces of hardware not including a few dupes, bootlegs and things we don't track on RFG

Good thing i heard this tip about using drier sheets to safely remove unwanted odors from games.
This is going to be about 30-35 more items.

I pulled out the huge MK Tournament Edition and the large MK: Kollectors Edition so i should be able to consolidate all of the games into one bin and everything else into the other.

Sorted:

To be sorted:
