Title: RF Generation Secret Santa 2012!!!!
Post by: wildbil52 on November 12, 2012, 05:53:38 PM
UPDATE 12/31
If you haven't received your package yet, please send an email to rfgensanta@gmail.com so Santa can check on your package.

UPDATE 12/4
The cutoff date has passed.  Every user who has filled out and returned the form has been matched with another user.

UPDATE 11/26
Several users have still not returned their completed forms to Santa.  If Santa doesn't get the completed form in time, you simply can't be matched up.  THE CUTOFF DATE IS NOV 30th.  If your letter is not received by Santa by Nov 30th, Santa cannot guarantee that you will be able to participate.

UPDATE 11/20
If you have a specific question for your match, let me know and I will have Santa contact them to get the question answered in order to maintain your anonymity.

PRO TIP-  If you are looking for a specific item for your match, check to see if another member has it in a sale thread or in their For Sale/Trade list.  That way you can work out a deal where that person sends the item directly to your match.

Please read this entire post

It's Secret Santa time again!  Here is how the RF Generation Secret Santa 2012 works:

-Send an email to rfgensanta@gmail.com with your RFGen username in the Subject line and Santa will send you the form you need to fill out.

-You will respond to the email filling out each segment of the form including your rfgen name, real name, address, etc. There is field in the email that will ask if you are willing to ship to a member outside of your country.  We know it's a little more expensive but we have a number of international members that shouldn't be excluded from the festivities so please remember how sad Crabby and the other Canadians will be if you say that you can't ship across borders.

The most important part of the email is your letter to Santa.  You must write your list of wants in the form of a letter to Santa Claus.

example:

Santa,
My Sega collection is always in need of help. If you could find it in your heart to send me a 32X game or 2, complete with box and instruction manual, it would certainly make my Christmas. I'm trying to put together a collection for archiving purposes, so no damaged articles. If you're unable to find any 32X games that I'm missing, I'd be more than happy to add to my other ailing Sega collections.

Thanks again, Santa

-The MINIMUM value of the items you must send to your Secret Santa is $20. You may give more if you choose, but $20 is the minimum.  There have been issues in years past with people feeling a little short changed so if you are unsure about what you are sending, give a little more, after all, it’s Christmas!

Within about a week, you will receive the info for the member you are Santa to.
EDIT-11/16:
Santa will start sending Secret Santa info out today and tomorrow.  You MAY STILL SIGN UP if you wish to participate.

Please make sure that your collection on RFGeneration is up to date so that you don’t get something that you already own.

Please post pics of the Secret Santa items that you receive in this thread.  Remember to wait until Christmas morning to open your presents ;)

I love these, I'm so in. What date are we getting our partners? If I decide to get something shipped to me and then send it out to my partner (possibly both to and from the states) it can take a while, so as much time before X-Mas as possible would be ideal.

Title: Re: RF Generation Secret Santa 2012!!!!
Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on November 12, 2012, 06:55:32 PM
That's why I mentioned the date of Dec. 5th. Canada mail takes 1-2 weeks normally, which allows for 1 week padding due to holidays. It worked out fine with that date for Scott.

deadman, you better sign up so you can mysteriously receive something from me as a thank you gift for last year.  :P

Also, can one of the DB Editor+ guys create a new forum for Secret Santa when we're all ready to go, like the April Fools forums?

What date are we getting our partners?

It depends on how quickly Santa gets his letters back from the participants and how many people participate but I'm hoping to have everything squared away by the end of November.

Sounds great!

I know I'm still fairly new here, but can I participate in this? I think we've got a great community here who really support each other.

What's the system? 1 cent per post? Looks like I'm getting a sports game with label damage.

does that mean your secret santa will be forced to send you another Stadium Events, or maybe an Air Raid, mr 5300 posts XD

edit: also i'm in too just have to send the email. just re-read the rules, so the initial email just needs the subject as "RF Generation Secret Santa 2012", no body message, and then you write your "letter to santa" wishlist along with the form you get in reply to the initial email? this is my first time doing this too :)

I would hope that we could have the letters in and the assignments done by the 26th, as that would allow for ~10 days to find something for someone international.

i was thinking the same, the earlier the better...if everything wasn't ready until the end of november that wouldn't leave much time for international shippers.

What are you complaining about? You have all of those Mortal Kombat items to send him!
Slightly interesting note: There are many of you that I already have gifts in mind to send. I already have boxes/envelopes ready for Crabby, Izret, singlebanana, Tynstar and aeroc.

Oh, and add my wife: Diedraneous.
She was more than happy to participate last year, and loved her gifts from Izret.

I'm in!  I've got like a hundred PS4 games sitting around I'm not playing that I'd love to give away, now that the Xbox 720 has holo-deck support.

Wait.

RFGeneration Secret Santa probably has limits on sending games for yet-released systems.

Shoot.

Oh well, guess I could still unload this stack of Panzer Dragoon Saga 2 Xbox prototypes I've been using for drink coasters.

Silly chrono-centrists.   XP

LOL This site has been great for me identifying bits and pieces I've ended up with over the years.  I love trading (or giving) goodies to others who just love gaming in general, and appreciate the same odd things we like.

Looking forward to SS as always, the folks here are awesome.
And Shadow, given your job, I'd love to see some of the nifty goodies you have acquired yourself :)

XD You may be sarcastic, but do you realize how many on the site would love it if their employer gave 'em ANY gaming swag, 'lame' or otherwise?  Hey, I love art books and an exclusive version of a great racer?  Count me in!  ;)

noise - No, it was not, but I can pick one up from the company store if you're interested. I've seen a couple lying around as well that people were giving away, and may be able to snag one of those. That's how I got a second copy of NFS.

I love the swag. I've got quite a few things around the house and the office that I'd love to hand out as prizes one day, and I make it a point to pick up as much swag as possible. I've got GI Joe magnets on my office cabinet to celebrate the release of the movie, tons of foam balls, tons of branded cups and glasses (love the Madden NFL 10 beer glasses), and quite a few other things.

Technically, my employer provided a few of the things I gave you last time you were down. ;D
I tend to send out some of the swag I've picked up, or end up picking up new things from the company store for Secret Santa. When I did Secret Santa with Digital Press, I sent out $200 worth of stuff, since it only ended up costing me $50 from the store.

Reminds me...I have to redeem my $200 for the cost of Kingdoms of Amalur I spent on it, since the company compensates for purchases spent on Electronic Arts games. :P I love my job sometimes.

I would say "Which system?"
I don't get it for free - the $200 deal is just covering $200 for expenses for the year. I just used it up at the beginning of the year.

Just sent out my letter, sorry, yes, I know, slow-poke :(

I have been trying to get my collection updated and sales/trades/buys accounted for first, but it just started to feel selfish and go against the point anyway.

Reminds me - my wife wants in. I'll have her send you her list, but it's based off my collection since it's a collective hobby of ours.
EDIT: Rofl. You have no idea how odd it is that I got matched up with the person I did.

i got my match up but their collection doesn't look updated to me, and their wishlist only partially reflects what they were asking for in their letter to santa. their letter to santa was good, i don't expect to have trouble finding some nice things for them, but i just worry that i might be getting things they already own without the collection list to cross-check against.

Santa has had a few people with similar issues.  He will try to nudge them a little to make sure their collection is up to date.

Good point

If you have a specific question for your match, let me know and I will have Santa contact them to get the question answered in order to maintain your anonymity.

One other thing to add... If you are looking for something specific, and think another member may have it (e.g. I have a couple MK items I planned on sending to Izret), feel free to make a deal and arrange to have it sent to that person instead. I did this for a present on Digital Press once, and it worked out well (incidentally, also MK-related merchandise).

Anyways Secret Santa stuff...
Initially i was like
OH NOES I DON'T HAVE THAT STUFF
Then i was like
OH WAIT I HAVE A BUNCH OF THESE THINGS!
Now i am like
WHERE DID EVERYTHING I OWN GO!?!?!

MORE SECRET SANTA TALK NOW!
I decided to just throw a bunch of my broken games in a box. It is already in the mail...

I'm hoping whoever i got ends up being happy with the small hodgepodge of stuff i am amassing :)

Grab a refrigerator box and fill it with packing peanuts.
Put a CIB Shaq Fu for genesis at the bottom. Maybe throw in a box of those gigantic icy hot patches.

Shaq Fu is the gift that keeps on giving.

i thought about doing this, but then i also thought if i make the post generic enough it shouldn't spoil anything ;) and maybe more people will notice it and update their collection for those doing this that haven't.

LOL, i've always thought doing something like that would be a hilarious christmas prank. even better would be to do up a wrapped cardboard box built in the shape of a car, and jammed full of packing peanuts with a hot wheel car at the bottom.

Trying to find the right balance between quantity and quality.

On another note, Izret do you play Mortal Kombat on the Vita?

Title: Re: RF Generation Secret Santa 2012!!!!
Post by: Izret101 on November 21, 2012, 07:20:43 PM
No. Don't own it for the PSP, Vita or PS3 yet nor do i own any of those systems. I figure excluding the collector, tournament and PDP fight stick i should be able to pick them up down the road in the 5-10$ range.

Since the prices have not dropped significantly for any of them and i don't plan on getting any of the systems any time soon i haven't bothered with them. I don't believe i asked my secret santa to bother with any of them either. Primarily for that reason:)

As for quality versus quantity it really would depend on the individual. I don't think anyone is going to want a bunch of carts with torn labals and stickers but not everyone is worried about something being completely mint or CIB.

Hello everyone, long time lurker here.  This looks like so much fun I can't wait to pick out a present for someone I don't know!  And that isn't sarcasm! :D  I really should participate more on these boards as I have it bookmarked and check for updates on the main page all the time.  The picture of the Daze before Christmas game grabbed my attention and led me here.  So yeah, I've got some neat (but not particularly rare) stuff in my collection which probably hasn't been added to the database yet (I tried to add a few things a while back, with minimal success) as I enjoy just grabbing any title in Japanese with anime girls on the cover.

Um, got off on a tangent there.  Yeah, I'm totally in on this! \(~.~)/  Oh, and nice to meet you all. :3

I won't be shipping out for a little while longer, due to one the fact that one of the items I wish to send I'm going to have to buy on eBay (because it's extremely unlikely that I will find it in a store in my area).

Quick question of curiosity: How many of you would agree that quality surpasses quantity in a gift?

Good.  I was feeling kind of bad because what my match was wanting very much was a game for a system with notoriously expensive games, and I'm kind of tight on money, so I won't be able to send very many games.  I'm hoping my match is still quite happy, since all of the games I'm sending are of high quality. :)

It's a seller from the US, and ebay's tracking says "Electronic shipping info received Nov 23."

Canada Post says if I send my gift on or before December 10th I should be ok so I hope this ebay item comes in before then.

i have yet to get anything for my match because i'm broke right now (thanks Wii-U ;P ), but i knew i would be and get paid on the 30th which gives me 5 days to get something before the international deadline...or possibly 10 if like fleach says canada post estimates dec 10th as being safe. i already have some ideas though and my match gave some very broad requests to work with, so i don't expect to have trouble finding good things locally. i hope my match will be happy with whatever i decide to get! i'm excited to start looking soon :) .

My match has been a little tough - not a lot to work with in the want area, and pretty specific on the system they are hoping to get help with.   Problem is, that systems games aren't that common here in the wild, so I'm doing the best I can.      I'm trying to balance the quality/quantity thing by giving some really nice items and then a lot of cheaper, more common items.   I too am going to hold out for a while to ship, as I feel like I'll be finding that perfect piece to cap off the gift sometime real soon....

Not a bad suggestion. I also heartily suggest that you DON'T put your name on the return address - if the person knows your address, sorry, but at least you can avoid a "name" to out you easily. Just put "RFGeneration Secret Santa" as the return name.

Also important to note that it's RFGeneration's Secret Santa, since some of our members like to involve themselves in multiple Secret Santas.

Mine gave me a good idea of what he wanted but I still want to surprise him with something not on the list.

Waiting on items from amazon and eBay.

I'll be happy with new games that another random person suggested. Lol. I'll prob also do a unboxing video of it to add to my YouTube channel

I think last count I had, I have to send out 12 different packages...hopefully, I'll get to it this weekend. Some of you will be receiving presents whether you like it or not, just because I like sending out random things to people when I already have their addresses. :P

You can apply a label to PMs. Whenever someone sends me their payment information, I apply my Address label to it. Then, you can click on the filter on the left to filter by "Address" PMs.

Some of the games I've ordered are taking a while to get here, so I'm thinking of just sending the games that I've currently purchased for them right now, along with a note saying that they're getting more stuff, but it'll be there later on.  My SS is in a different country, so I want to make sure they have something for Christmas day, and not a day or two afterwards.

My package is heading out today.   I didn't individually wrap all of the goodies inside, nor did I put a box within a box.   Typically I see them marked "Do not open until Xmas" and that worked well last year.

I thought the same thing.   If I stuck to the $20 limit, I would only have had $7 to spend since shipping was $13!   I left a couple of price stickers on because the games were re-sealed by the stores and I didn't want to open them up to remove the stickers.   I really don't think it's that big of a deal.    If my recipient wants to know how much I actually spent I have no trouble running it down but I can't imagine they care.    I've done videogame Secret Santas for about 5 years now and have never thought  "how cheap - I got hosed."   I have occasionally thought "Holy crap!  This guy spent too much!"    It's all supposed to be fun, that's the whole point.    If I want to stress about buying a present, I'll buy one for my mother in law!

Mine hasn't arrived yet, but no worries on my end.    I'm concerned that if mine isn't marked I may open it accidentally, as I did a LOT of last minute online ordering over the past 3-4 days so I'm expecting about 5 packages plus the SS.     I should be able to figure it out, but either way all will be good.       I'm really getting excited to start seeing the posts of opened packages and what everyone got!

Sent out the 2 packages that my household is responsible for. However, my wife (diedraneous) neglected to mention that her recipient was in Canada.  :grrr:  :nono:
Imagine my shock when I get to the post office, pull up her email, and see the address location.

...if a Canadian member gets their package 1-2 days late, I apologize beforehand. I've sent it Priority in the hopes that it gets there in time (6-10 day average), but the shipping was about as much as the actual contents are worth. :embarassed:
If it doesn't arrive on time, I'll send a compensation package as a result.

Also, her SS gift has not arrived yet. Starting to get down to the wire everyone, so if you're hesitating to send something, you've got 3-5 days US Priority / 6-10 days Canada Priority to look forward to...

Also, Bil, can we get the OP updated for Sent/Received status?

There might be a problem if noiseredux delivers it dressed up as Morrigan though...

Quick, somebody photoshop his head onto Morrigan's body!

Quick, somebody find a picture of noiseredux off racketboy somewhere!

Got my SS package in a few days ago!  I... wanted to be patient, but after reading about a few folks opening theirs, I went for it, and...

YAY!  Someone went out of their way to get us some classic games we don't have, filling in some holes in the collection, and all were in great shape!  And that's not always an easy feat, buying for us retro collectors, especially with our number of games for some systems ;)

Santa really hit a wonderful jackpot for us this year, and I hope s/he didn't spend too much!  A pleasantly unexpected 'haul'.  THANKS SANTA!!!

(Now can we post pics, descriptions, and (if so desired) who our SS is on the 25th?  That's the rule, right? :D

Its Christmas up here finally so I'll start us off with the first pic (I actually opened it up early....... don't tell ;) ).

My Secret Santa partner did amazing!!! I tried to make my list pretty open so they had an easy time as possible buying for me. So I had several different systems and types of games I enjoy listed as options. He sent me something from nearly every different option I had listed, it was really mind boggling. Absolutely every single item that I received was a perfect match for my interests. I needed all 4 NES games for my licensed set (a couple of which I'm eager to play), I've got a copy of Parasite Eve and have been looking for Parasite Eve 2 for a long time, Grandia is a series I've completely missed out on and have been wanted to experience.

But best of all is the copy of Secret of Evermore. Its one I used to rent as a kid a lot and never was able to finish it. I'm really looking forward to playing it again after all these years. Thanks so much Fleach. I hope you're as happy with your gift as I am with mine :D

It's Christmas here in Toronto Town and "Santa" had something great for me sitting under the tree.

I recognized the return address as the same address I sent my gift to. Crabby, thank you so much! I'm really thrilled with the goodies you sent me. You're so generous for making this Final Fantasy fan overjoyed this holiday season. The NES games are fantastic additions to my budding collection. I simply can't thank you enough.

The FF Anthology, Tactics and Chronicles are games I've been actively hunting for so to see them as part of the Secret Santa gift was a huge surprise. Chrono Cross was a title that somehow flew right under my radar, as was King's Field. Looks like I've got some level grinding in store for me this holiday.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Silver Surfer. Wow is all I can say. I'm looking forward to playing this two little gems.

I'm really glad to hear that you're happy with the bundle I posted to you. Hope to see some of those NES games in your "100 in 100." And those RGPs should keep your pretty busy. Merry Christmas and happy gaming, my friend.

Thanks for the gifts guys! KW, let me know when your box comes in - my wife was saying she wanted to send more your way.

Sorry for no pics, my phone battery is only good for a few minutes (replacement in the mail) and my digital camera is in a box atm.

My Secret Santa (Arrngrim) not only flitered through our extensive retro collection to find and fill a few missing titles, he used my old disc rot article to make sure the discs were perfect!  One of the games, Hi Octane, has had pinholes the last three times I found a copy, and he found one in perfect shape!  He sent:

Dark Castle (Genesis) CIB
John Madden '93 (Genesis) CIB
Echo Jr. (Genesis)
Hi Octane (Saturn) CIB
Virtual Casino (Saturn) CIB

Very pleasantly surprised.  Best of all, and true to the intent of the Secret Santa this year, Arrngrim and I have exchanged contact info and he seems like a very cool dude.  *cue sappy holiday music* "Its the best present I could get."

Revenge of Shinobi (Sega Classics) - this one is sealed, I think it's NEW and SEALED?
Assassins Creed II (360) - just started playing the Vita AC3 so this should be fun!
Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise (360) - I've been looking for this for a long time!!

Thanks KAL!    You did great!   Hope you are happy with your gift as well!

He made a sweet golf dude from perler beads complete with stand.  Its sitting on my dvd shelf right now.  He also threw in a bunch of Wreck it Ralph buttons.  I'm not sure what to do with them yet, but it'll be creative!  Kinda hard to see but there's a couple of plastic mario figurines in there too, and a couple of CDs from his old band.  I'll give it a listen in my car on my way to work tomorrow morning.

Got a Nintendo Power, my first :)  Also Cyborg Justice for Genesis, i loved that game when i was a kid.  The vs mode is cool, my brother and i used to spend hours ripping each others arms off.  Also got a Cruisin' USA poster that I'll put on my wall soon.

Be jealous Razor Knuckles, i got a Tiger-ish Sonic 3-D blast as well.  Just another cool piece to have sitting on my shelf.

I'm glad i got the book "How to Survive a Robot Uprising" from my S.S., but my fiance isn't.  She got me the same book for Christmas.

Overall, I'm very happy with what i recieved.  Hopefully i did just as well.

Here's what I got!
Mario kart made out of perler beads. My reaction was the best I recorded it.
I got the Devil May Cry 1,2,and 3. Never played them. Played it for a bit yesterday. Reminds me of Resident Evil 2, but you have a sword.

Also got a NES game Renegade. It's a beat em up. Pretty hard.

I'm super happy and will be busy for. A while.

I asked my Secret Santa for games from the more elusive systems, if possible, and was thrilled when I opened the box to find these.

A few games closer to an Odyssey2 set, and seeing 3DO titles had me smiling.  Love Bites is AO, but I'm a guy (that likes looking at scantily clad women) and really appreciate gaining a title that is so difficult to find and in great condition.  I wonder if an adult title then a video of Woody Woodpecker was supposed to mean something...

And how did he know I love M&M's?

An interesting demonstration of the competitive nature of game publishers in the early 90's, when they license soft-core.  Kind of puts the Nintendo v. Tengen battle to shame, don't it?

Out of Ammo and I had each other and he gave me:

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 SNES - My favourite MK of all time. I was super happy when I saw that!
Donkey Kong Country 3 SNES - I've never played the 3rd one.
Super Battleship - I think i may have this one. I can't rememeber

and the promise of a second package! Can't wait!

Thanks man. I really appreciate it. No pic yet because my GF cleaned up the living room and moved the games to a location that I am unaware of.

just an update, I'm mailing out my package this morning. (Should I say here who the recipient is since it's so late?)

Also, does anyone (Bil?) know if my Santa sent my package out yet?

I would have been happy with one boxed NES game, my SS hooked me up with 3.  Nicely done!

Ha!  I post my finds on my facebook too.  I also use it to upload pics to RFGeneration.  Oh, and about Deadly Towers, my cousin wanted Legend of Zelda when we were young, but instead he got Deadly Towers.  He played it for half a day, then he gave it to me.  He said it was awesome, in fact too awesome for him to play.  I knew I shouldn't have trusted him.

There are tons of worse games (than both of those) IMO. Its just fashionable to hate on Deadly Towers, which is why I had to speak up ;)

Received my package from my Secret Santa well before the Christmas holidays.  Got too excited and have already filed the games away into my NES collection.  Received the following licensed NES games from my Secret Santa (only 26 more licensed games to go!):

The Legend of the Ghost Lion
Baseball Stars II
Alien 3

Thank you Secret Santa!  And as always, thank you one in all for participating and for those who set it up this year!

what he said^, i emailed too. with all the holidays and the fact that my post office didn't seem to be delivering saturday/sunday like others, it's possible it's just been delayed during shipping.

I got my package before Chrih Christmas Day, I just haven't posted the picture until now.  Thanks to my Secret Santa for sending me these.  Although his return address looked awfully familiar...

Spiderman on the GBA up top, Glover and Tonic Trouble for my N64.  Karate Champs, Kung-Fu, Gotcha, Rad Racer 1 & 2, Home Alone, and To The Earth for NES.  Also an Atari 2600 Jr and a Gamestop Gamecube disc wallet.  I had lots of fun this year and I hope who I sent things to liked them as much I liked mine.

I'm lat to post in this topic, unfortunately. :(  I was away visiting a relative for Christmas, but I'm glad that everyone seems to have gotten what they wanted.

I'm glad you got your stuff, bro!

And your other things should be in the mail soon-it took forever to get some of your other items because of my post office's sluggishness around the holidays (when most other post offices become busier).

I also got a lot of great things from  burningtoys, I'll have to take a picture soon.  It should be up tomorrow.

Ok so my package arrived today. A familiar address. :) Lucky for me it came from another Sega fan. A nice stack of SCD/Sat/DC sports games I was missing (including NHL 94!!!!) but what really blew my mind was the Saturn Choice Cuts demo disc, the That Virtua Feeling / Sub Pop sampler CD, and.... the... OMG... wait for it... PANZER DRAGOON PLAYABLE PREVIEW DISC!

Thank you so much Secret Tyns-- I mean Santa. :D

So what's the final tally?   Did everyone get their gift?   I didn't see as many pictures of the package contents as I thought we might see, but that's fine.    Just curious that everyone got taken care of!

I thoroughly enjoyed the process this year - always a great excuse to go hit the game and thrift stores yet again.   Plus meeting new people and getting a surprise at Christmas is sweet!

See you all for the next one!

WOW!! I feel bad for the people that didn't get their gift.  Hopefully we can come up with some way to make it up to them.

Hopefully this isn't a problem next year.

I was worried when I first signed up about something like this happening to me.  B/c it usually does.  But I was glad I got my Secret Santa.

He looks a little like this guy. LOL

i read your note in the box about that, don't worry about the n64 stuff, the fact you sent anything was more than you had to do :). i had said on my original letter to santa that i'd be happy with anything not in my collection if my SS couldn't find anything n64 related.

Power Moves, Lawnmower Man, Home Alone 2, International Tennis Tour, and a CIB Zoop! I just picked up Zoop recently, but the CIB makes it that much better! I remember Zoop being a game that I purchased brand new with Christmas money one year along with Super Punch-Out!
