Title: My Martin Luther King weekend find thread
Post by: captain_nintendo on January 16, 2005, 05:39:50 AM
I found a loose Earthbound and paid 30 for it. The guy knew what he had , but I have seen this go for upwards of 75 loose on ebay lately so I took the plunge.

Other stuff :

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2  (nes) loose
Abadox w/ instructions (I had the box)
Elevator Action w/ instructions (had the box)
Boulder Dash w/ instructions (have the box)
Championship Bowling w/ instructions (have the box)
Gremlins 2 loose

The place also has a ton of other stuff I need and they also have a bunch of snes stuff I will be getting  :)
Most of the rare/ popular snes stuff was priced close to ebay prices.

I still can't make myself buy expensive games like that. I've got myself convinced I'll one day stumble on it for 50 cents at a thrift store. But based on ebay prices that's a sweet deal.

my finds:

Genesis - Spider-Man, Scooby Doo Mystery, Jack Nicklaus Power Challenge Golf, al w boxes.

NES - Battle of Olympus, loose

and the stuff I got at K Mart.

oh and non-gaming: a 1978 200 piece puzzle of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman complete for 80 cents. HUBBA HUBBA!

Yeah , but I told myself that I could buy it for 30 and sell it for more than double if I did ever find it really cheap.  :P

I got

Madden 64 (N64)
NHL '99 (N64)
Vigilante 8 (N64)
WCW vs. NWO (N64)
all of those gamesz are mint and complete with all of the original ads, posters and anything else they put in them.  I also got the manual for NFL Blitz 2000 in the NHL box

Air Combat (PSX)
complete

and my first ever thrift store find.  A monumental occasion to be sure.  Whats the name of this holy grail that was obtained for a mere $3?

NHL Hockey for the Genesis complete

That's right!  NHL Hockey!!!  I can feel the jealousy radiating off of you guys!

Yeah, but I have NEVER seen anything at a thrift store so I just paid whatever they wanted.  They had about a dozen more Genesis games, but They were all Sonic, Madden and NHL games that I already had.

3 bucks seems to be the average for Genesis games around here. the range I see is usually from $1.91 to $3.95. the higher price is for boxed games. title has no bearing. Madden would cost the same as Phantasy Star II.

I was joking. The going price for Genesis games at thrifts around here is $4.95. Systems use to be $9.99-$19.99. At that price I didnt see to many. Now they want $49.99-$54.99 for them and they have lots of systems.

Thrift store pricing in my area is pretty random.  I work right down the street from one so I go quite often but you never know what they will put on for a price.  I have acually seen two copies of the same game, in simular condition, on the same shelf with one priced at $1 the other at $4.  I can walk out of there one day with a slew of complete SMS games for 50 cents each, then go back the next day and find a loose Genesis Madden 94 marked $7.

the thrifts I hit are pretty consistent with game prices. they do vary wildly when it comes to systems though. an Atari 2600 might be $8 bucks one week and $30 the next. I guess it depends on whoever priced it, one guy may think it's random junk for the toy section another a sought after collectable for the register showcase.

one store I hit currently has a Game Gear in their showcase for $19.99, I bought mine from the same place for $3 bucks.

It was the day after MLK day, but yesterday I found

Williams Arcade Hits
Frank Thomas "Big Hurt" Baseball
Need For Speed
Panzer General

All Playstation long box games for $20 and all complete.

It was $1.99.  They had a second copy of Need for Speed up there if you need that.
