Title: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Zagnorch on August 29, 2012, 06:56:54 PM It's hard to believe that the nuclear holocaust that Skynet launched, leading to humanity's war against the machines, happened 15 years ago today.
Hope you're all staying safe, and keeping out of the sight of those pesky terminators. :guncannon: 'Course, if you want a "real" judgment day, the next one is expected to occur in just under four months; that's when the whole expiration-of-the-Mayan-long-count-calendar will drop just a few days before Christmas. If it's anything like Y2K or the two dates that Family Radio outfit set last year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_end_times_prediction), you won't even know it happened... :hmm: 'Late Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Razor Knuckles on August 29, 2012, 07:36:21 PM I don't know who is worse, Skynet or the crap Umbrella pumps out.
Cant wait till later this year when the world ends. Actually I don't trust information from a dead group of crazed people that sacrificed themselves in mass suicide. Maybe if they drank Kool Aid and all wore the same pair of shoes I'd trust their information a little more. Will have a case of beer and my shotgun at hand in case anything gets out of control from the anarchy that may ensue later this year. I'll go into Judge Dredd mode at that time and yell out loud. "I am the law!" Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Zagnorch on August 29, 2012, 09:15:06 PM Will have [...] my shotgun at hand in case anything gets out of control
You're gonna need something more powerful than that to stop the terminators. Like a phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vxK4kf4AqA I'll go into Judge Dredd mode at that time and yell out loud. "I am the law!" Are ya gonna say it the same way Stallone does in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itmNiTwHOsM 'Cuz if you did-- well, it'd be kinda hard to take you seriously... Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Razor Knuckles on August 29, 2012, 09:33:38 PM I'll just camp. What the hell it works in video games for a cheap kill. I'm gonna be screwed if I have to fight Terminators. Maybe I should stockpile EMP grenades for them.

Glad you pointed it out though, I would have missed it this year if not for you. That's what I'm all about-- reminding people of the truly important dates in pop-culture history. After all, it's not like yesterday, which marked the 49th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with about 200,000 people in attendance, had any real significance to it... ;D I'll just camp. What the hell it works in video games for a cheap kill. Yeah, and merely touching a medikit instantly brings you back to full health, too. ::) Far be it for me to say this, but... ya might wanna lay off the vidya games for a while. ;) Because I've been expected to worship something or be considered evil, I'll follow the Sun, my source of life's, timeline. Well, if you're gonna be "considered evil," you're in good company-- George Carlin was a sun-worshipper, too... or so he claimed in one of his routines. However, he prayed to Joe Pesci... which is what everybody should do as far as I'm concerned. He might look shrimpy, but he carries himself in such a way that you absolutely DO NOT wanna piss him off. So you'd better pray... that he doesn't break his foot off in your-- Quote Plenty of time to test the Twinkies theory. That anything like the "Twinkie defense?" The latter I thank our savior Randy Macho Man Savage for dying on our behalf to stop the impending apocalypse. Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: slackur on September 14, 2012, 09:50:03 AM I'll trust the science on Dec 21st. Because I've been expected to worship something or be considered evil, I'll follow the Sun, my source of life's, timeline. Hey, guess what! We're looking at about 4,500,000,000+ years of bliss. Nice!!! Plenty of time to test the Twinkies theory. Contractual obligations require me to weigh in on eschatology matters. ;) The Apostles were promised the beginning of Christ's Kingdom and Christ's authority on earth within their lifetime, which many then assumed to be Christs Second Coming. They missed that whole 'I'm sending a helper, the Holy Spirit,' bit, and the explanation that the Holy Spirit that once only resided in the hearts of Prophets and Priests would now be available to any professing faith in Christ, thus ushering in an entire Kingdom of God's people instead of a nation guided by a few higher-ups. In true Captain Planet fashion, Jesus was saying that after He ascends, 'the power is yours!' There's even a bit of dark comedy in John 16 where Jesus's friends were asking Him specifically when they'd see Him again, and He says, "in a little while," and they're like, "a little while? what the heck does that mean? You're doing that whole parable talk again" And Jesus replies, "OK, you're going to go through a bunch of crap and grieve and be miserable, then we meet back up at the end of time and you're going to be overjoyed. So just ask for that joy now." Then His friends say, "See, was that so hard? You just need to speak plainly." To which Jesus replies, "Yeah, you still don't get it. You're all going to split and leave me alone. But its cool, we still win in the end." I'm proud to say now, that I survived the 2nd Impact, Judgement Day, and multiple returns of Christ. The latter I thank our savior Randy Macho Man Savage for dying on our behalf to stop the impending apocalypse. Technically, we've only survived multiple theories about the timing of the return of Christ, and since the book these folks claim to believe specifically says more than once that it'll happen "thief in the night" style and 'no man knows the day' (Matthew 24:36) I'm not going to put much stock into the ideas of someone who didn't apparently read the whole thing. As for the Great Randy Savage Apocalypse Sacrifice? May we all live by his immortal words, "Dusty Rhodes, do you think you're what our forefathers were thinking about when they thought up the American Dream? Ooooh, yeah, I don't think so." http://www.searchquotes.com/quotes/author/Macho_Man_Randy_Savage/ Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Just like Oakland ;D Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Zagnorch on October 24, 2012, 08:47:58 PM Yep it sure is. Just like Oakland ;D God, don't remind me... The last time I was in Oakland, I took BART up to see a WWE house match with a friend at the Oracle Arena, where the Warriors play. After the event, I'm sitting at a bench on the platform, waiting for the next train to take us back home, when I noticed a guy sitting about eight feet away from me... ...and, lying on the bench between us, well within reach, was his machete. Needless to say, I was prayin' he and I weren't gonna board the same train... ...for about ten minutes. At one point, one of the BART transit cops walked up the platform stairs, saw the guy and the machete, and very discreetly walked back down the stairs. Probably went to call in the REAL five-o I suppose. As you can imagine, I haven't been anywhere near Oakland since. Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: Razor Knuckles on October 24, 2012, 09:07:26 PM Yeah I live two miles west of Detroit and believe me those two miles are a night and day difference. The only time I really go to Detroit is for sporting events or the North American International Auto Show in downtown.
Detroit's violent crime rate is down 10% from last year, yet were still #1 in the most violent city category. Livonia (Where I live) has been noted as one of the safest cities in America with a population of approx 100,000 and an area of 36sq miles. The worst thing that happens in Livonia is someone gets caught selling pot once in a blue moon. Not much of a crime. Once you leave the actual city limits of Detroit and enter the Metro areas it's quite a nice city. And Downtown Detroit is a very nice part of Detroit, the the residential area of Detroit sucks and their is no defending them. You can go from run down slums to mansions in a mile or two in my area. So yeah I can say I'm not livin' in da hood. Oh and to stay on subject I offer you this awful song that relates to this subject http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzU9OrZlKb8&feature=player_detailpage Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! TIME TO BE A BUZZKILL! Near the end of this year the Mayan calendar calculates the end of the current astrological cycle, depending on who you talk to it is the Age of Pisces, the Age of Aquarius should follow it. Now I'm going to blow some minds. Pisces is a fish, since astrological ages last a bit over 2100 years we can look back in history to find a major event that occurred roughly two millenia ago. Oh right, the advent of Christianity. Aquarius is a human. So what this new age could mean is a true age of man, not of myth. Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! May have to try that some day. And Nupoile, you should really slow down there, bud. It's probably unhealthy to have more than one of those at a time. Or, you know, any at all. :D Here's to hoping an ancient zombie Mayan returns to earth.. And holds a news conference to explain our misguided attempts to understand their calender and eschatology... ;) Yeah, I found it the other day. I can't stand much alcohol besides vodka, and it sounded interesting. Not a bad taste, and no one else in the house wants them, so it works out for me. Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! With an actual bartender, a decent Mai Tai, or even a good Rum and Coke, can still be tough to come by. Mello Yello is still my liquid poison of choice. :P Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Where does the time go? Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! Post by: nupoile on August 30, 2014, 03:18:18 PM Wow, has it really been 17 years since the war against the machines began? Where does time go? The whole thing has to do with time travel. Did you not pick up on that?Where does the time go? This year we had a choice. The 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD or the 1991 LaserDisc. The DVD case is soooo shiny The Ultimate Edition was the first DVD I ever bought. I'm pretty sure I've seen it every year since. Probably more often than that back in the halcyon days of only owning a handful of DVDs. My wife has only ever seen that version of the movie with its 19 or so minutes of extra footage. Since we got the LaserDisc version this year, and because, lasers, we went with the big disc. At first I thought this was going to be a Rambo movie One thing LaserDiscs often have in contrast to DVDs is a wider dynamic range for the audio, meaning the quiet parts are quieter and the louder parts are louder. We've noticed this before on the couple other movies we have on both LD and DVD but on Terminator 2.......it's AWESOME! The transitions from quiet parts to loud ones is great. It's the audio version of when movies go from long dark scenes to bright day ones, or like in Pitch Black where the screen fades out to complete blackness. After walking through the worst clean room set up ever..... My wife was really into it. She even let social media know how great the sound was on this version of the movie, more than once. It's only like the best arcade game ever At one point our 1400 watt subwoofer shook something off a shelf so we decided to take a break and make popcorn. I got a little sumpin' extra! This version of the movie also has that one guy in it...... Yeah, pretty sure he was known for being in Double Dragon: Anyways, this is one of those movies we watch on a certain day every year, thanks for the reminder Zagnorch! Just a week to go until the 18th anniversary of the war against the machines. Well, according to the first two Terminator flicks, anyway. You know, the only two worth watching? Meanwhile, there's a new "IRL" Judgment Day approaching: an asteroid impact set to occur some time between the 15th and 28th of September. http://www.armaghplanet.com/blog/the-truth-about-the-september-2015-asteroid-impact.html G0dd@mmit, why does this civilization-obliterating event have to (sort of) coincide with the release of the new Skylanders set?! Hopefully, I can complete the Adventure mode before Lucifer's Hammer strikes. This is a bunch of bull$#!+... Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! But hey, if you gotta shelter in place, why not watch the first two Terminator flicks-- along with the director's cut of the original RoboCop-- to pass the time and get your mind off of the awful stuff happening outside? Heck, I'll even throw RoboCop 2 onto to the watchpile. Sure it had its flaws, but I thought it had some good moments and concepts. And how could you not love the awesomeness of the climactic battle with stop-motion RoboCain? But for the love of God absolutely do not-- DO NOT!-- watch RoboCop 3, or the 2014 remake, or any of the other Terminator flicks. 'Cuz if you do, you're liable to welcome Judgment Day with open arms. Right, Nupes? Title: Re: Let's Celebrate Judgment Day! So look here you humpenscrump, T3 is a fine movie and worth watching.... I think the internet law is that I have to miss-spell things too... Its mostly a good movie. I mean thier're are parts anyways, the crane chase scene for one. Uh, and, I'm sure there are others. Wait, it's one of the few movies to actually show on-screen Armageddon, that's a thing. A thing worth watching a movie for. You know what, you Robot loving, Cybog hugging elitist?......I got nothing, you're pretty much spot on. Um, while I'm here deciding whether to watch T2 on Blue Ray for the bestest in video quality, or Laser Disc for the way better audio dynamics, I want to take a Pitch Meetings jab and be like, "wow wow wow, wow" or like, "so you can all the way get off my back about that," but years from now, in 2029 for example, you'll have change your avatar for the millionth time and no one will get the reference. When it comes to transportation, prefer motorcycles? When engaging with the enemy, don't bother taking cover, just walk right over to him? Maybe the rules regarding the T-1000's limitations? As advanced as a mimetic polyalloy is, even it can only do so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaWw5wuBPs4 There was one rule that was changed between the theatrical release and the extended cut, however: the Terminator's ability to learn new things... and not be such a dork all the time... by resetting his processor switch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYTOK89w8h0 BTW the mirror "reflection" in this scene is actually Arnie, Linda Hamilton's twin sister, and Eddie Furlong's stand-in, while the real Linda Hamilton and Eddie Furlong are yanking the Terminator chip out of a life-like mock-up of Arnie's head. Some brilliant work by Stan Winston (RIP) and his talented practical FX cohorts. Speaking of twins and practical FX: Linda's sis would show up later as the T-1000 disguising itself as Sarah Connor to lure out John during the climactic steel mill scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Kug8mJ8WiM My God, I know way too much trivia about this flick... almost as much as I do about RoboCop.
